Dohra

Those whose minds are attuned to chetan saroop {soul}, have become one of the same.

Such jeevan-mukht {liberated} folk never cease to be, in this world, consider this to be the utter truth. {19}.

Kabitt

The metaphorical naddhi {stream} of aasa {desires} overflows with the water of sankalp {material wishes}, where the waves of trishna {insatiable hunger} arise.

Viakulta {helplessness} causes the baedi {boat} in this stream to capsize, drawing it towards the shores of materialistic carnal pleasures, which is aided by the gale force wind of bipta {troubles}.

There is an abundance of the metaphorical lust-driven birds on this stream, giving rise to attachment, and hatred.

There are the tentacles of attachment, materialism, and torment. There is the whirlpool of moh {attachment}, the materially rich are constantly being boiled alive in the hot water of this stream.

Chinta {worries} are the high shores of this stream, as a result of which, it is extremely difficult to swim across. This is why the vishes-bhogi {those who engage in debauchery} have been drowned in this stream, but yogi-lok {spiritually enlightened} have taken shelter by climbing up the other side of the shore.{20}.

Sortah

The sukh-saroop {blissful} Sants have crossed this stream, to the other side. All others have fallen victim to this stream, drowning and being sucked into the vortex of this whirlpool, as a direct result.{21}.

Why, is it not possible to receive donations along the way?; does one have to endure immense torment to achieve it?

Arthath {in other words} it is easy to obtain.

Why have the mandar {buildings}, masaan {graveyards}, baag {orchards}, and burj {forts} burnt down to the ground?; that they can no longer provide accommodation?

The whole earth is covered with ripe fruit trees; have they ceased to blossom? In other words, the trees are abundant with fruits.

Why, do the deer skins not fend off the cold and the wind? In other words, yes, the mrigshala {deer skin} does protect one from the elements.{22}.

Khalsa Ji,

Bhartari Ji, in the above passage, reiterates the necessity of simplicity in one’s life.

The above passage is a question and answer scenario:

Why seek the solace of the forest; there are towns and cities available to hand.

Why chase material wealth; bhikya {donations} are sufficient to sustain one’s self.

Why desire lavish feasts? Why desire elegant robes?

Bhartari Ji says that despite the existence of towns and cities; one cannot find solace there.

He says that donations are easily available and sufficient to sustain one’s self.

He says the abundant orchards are full of fruit; there’s no need for lavish feasts.

He says that the mrigshala {deer skin} is all that one needs to be protected from the cold wind; so why attempt to acquire silk robes etc.

Bhartari Ji shows the simple method of life to be the best.

waheguru ji...could you please explain this one in little detail?

This type of pleasant resource can be found on land up to now; despite this, the budhimaan {wise} never abandon the meditation of Shiv Ji, i.e. Simran of the creator.

Those who have acquired even a tiny iota of material wealth; are blinded with ego, when do they ever meditate on the Lord? {rhetorical question}.

Dwell in the metaphorical bann {forests} of solitude; do the Simran of your anant atma {supreme soul}.{23}.

Vipak=fruit. Bidhuk=scholar. Puman= mankind. Vilok= to see.

The fruits of paap {sins} are dukh {torment}; the fruits of punn {good deeds} are sukh {pleasures}. Those who accept dukh and sukh on an equal basis; such scholars, who dwell in this forest, are not affected by raag-dokh {love for pleasure; hatred for pain}.

Such ashok {torment-free} folk are very rare in this world; many can be seen, but the ones who see Bramh {creator} in everything, are very scarce. {24}.
