SINGAPORE : The Central Sikh Temple in Towner Road officially reopened on Friday after a S$4.5 million upgrade and renovation.

On Friday evening, President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam officiated the event, which featured a travelling Photographic Exhibition on Sikh Heritage.

The upgrades feature anti—slip tiles, ramps and larger elevators to better serve the elderly.

It will also house free Wi—Fi services for youths.

The newly—renovated Central Sikh Temple is also designed to be eco—friendly and contains features like auto cut—off taps amongst others.

The temple was built in April 1986.

As far as I know, Guru Sahib did not spend a lot of money constructing buildings for sangat. Even Sri Darbar Sahib did not have gold until Maharaj Ranjit Singh had it put on.

While some of the things like ramps and larger elevators are good to have, I don't think something like that would have contributed much to the total cost of $4.5million.

Wow. $4.5m. £2.88m.

I wonder how many hungry mouths that would feed.

Singapore = £2.8m for a stunningly beautifull functioning gurdwara

Uk = £18m (£25 million in todays money) for a gurdwara (Southall) with leaking toilets which mean you have to step over puddles of pee to get to the urinal, taps that no longer work, dryers that no longer work. An £18 million gurdwara that looks more like a £1,5 million modern office complex.

Does the term 'he who lives in a glass house shouldn't throw stones' ring a bell ?
