Open House in Sacramento

In an attempt to raise awareness in the community about who we are and what we stand for, an OPEN-HOUSE is being organized at the Gurdwara on Bradshaw Road in Sacramento (7676 Bradshaw Road. Sacramento, CA 95829) on September 18th 2004. This would coincide with celebrations commemorating the 400 years of installation of (Guru) Adi Granth Sahib at Darbar sahib in Amritsar.

The function starts at 10 am with keertan and a presentation; this first part culminates with a bilingual (english and punjabi) ardaas at about 10:30 am. Following this the guests will be free to walk around and see a photo exhibition, watch GATKA, have their kids play/jump around on bouncers and have fun with a clown or two. Lemonade and ice-cream stands are also being set up. A documentary on Guru Granth Sahib will also be screened on the occassion. Guru ka Langar will be served to one and all.

The intended audience is our neighbors, colleagues at work, friends of our kids and their families, employees and some community activists. Almost 500 invitation cards have been picked up by the Sangat at the Gurdwara to be distributed to the above.

All are invited to participate, volunteer (we will need quite a few) and spread the word. Management/members of other Gurdwaras in Northern California are welcome to observe this 'experiment' and consider re-enacting it locally if felt feasible.
