BBC Asian Network "Investigating" Why Sikhs Oppose Mixed Marriages In Gurdwaras

The Boring Broadcasting Corporation so called "Asian" Network are broadcasting a programme on Monday 11 March.

It will find out why there's a divide on the subject within Sikhs and will talk about people they have labelled as "wedding crashers" meaning the Brothers who are doing seva by trying to Gurdwaras on the wedding day where a Mixed marriage will take place.

From the advert they have put out, it will be very one sided as usual, anti Sikh, bracetking us all "asian" There will be allot of input of the couples wedding who have been disrupted by brothers.

Be alert and listen i doubt there will be anyone on the programme who give Akal Takhet point of view.

Remember the bbc asian network is communist run station, and an enemy.

had a Sikh friend online from India who told me his cousin fell in love with a
non-Sikh (Christian) in New Delhi in 2004 and this act greatly upset her
religiously devout Sikh parents (especially her father) who told her that if
the man she wants to marry won't become a Sikh, her family would sever ties
with her and she would be on her own from now on. The daughter was very upset
of the thought of her family cutting ties with her so she pleaded with her
boyfriend to become a Sikh. Not wanting to upset her, the boyfriend
confronted her father and told him he would accept the Sikh faith. The father
was extremely delighted and the daughter’s boyfriend was baptised and today is

One thing I would like to add is that people don't realize how ritualistic and karam kandi it is to have a mixed faith "Anand Karaj" in Guru Granth Sahib Jee's Presence. It's fake, it's all just a show.

Why would someone bow down to Guru Granth Sahib Jee, when they don't even believe in Guru Sahib, they don't follow Guru Sahib and they don't have anything to do with Guru Sahib.

They're not at the Gurdwara to seek Blessings from Guru Sahib, they're just there to fulfill a formality. They're there to please their spouse's side of the family.

There is no "Anand". It's just a "karaj", and a karam kandi one at that.

One thing we must not forget is that, how far can this kind of thinking go? 75%+ people who call themselves Sikhs, don't even follow the basic principles of Sikhism. Yet, just because they are "Punjabi", they get "Anand Karajs" done all the time without any complaints. Why is there a double standard where we are okay with these people getting married in Gurdwaras, yet people from other faiths can't?

How far can we take this argument and how judgmental can we be and how judgmental do we have to be?

Because I have seen people from mixed faiths having an "Anand Karaj", and the person from the other faith is very respectful, kind and considerate, and sometimes they actually do have genuine respect for Guru Sahib and Sikhi coming from their heart.

Whereas on the other hand, I have seen people who are Punjabi but follow no Sikh principles (the typical come to Gurdwara twice a year ritualistically, etc), and they are very disrespectful and out of place during their time at the Gurdwara for "Anand Karaj".

It's very hard to draw a line, because there is way too much gray area in this topic. It's NOT because Guru Sahib was unclear. Guru Sahib is very clear on everything. It's because Sikhism has been diluted by so-called Sikhs, and sadly it is the majority who don't even truly follow Sikhism. Very few (the minority), actually follow Sikhi as per Guru Sahib's Bachans and Hukamnamas.

It's so fake when Punjabis who are clean-shaven let their beard grow for a week or two for the "Anand Karaj" (so that it looks nice with Pugree) and also let their hair grow for like a month so that they have more support with their Pugree. And a few hours after the "Anand Karaj", they shave and get a fresh haircut and go to the party and drink/eat meat/do drugs, etc.

Also there is a new trend of not eating langar at the Gurdwara after "Anand Karaj". Instead, everyone goes to a restaurant or banquet hall and eat lunch there. I guess they're too sophisticated and high-up to be
sitting in Guru's Pangat and eat Guru's Langar.

On top of that, most Punjabi people insist on wearing Kalgis, even in Guru Granth Sahib Jee's Darbar they wear it until just before the "Anand Karaj" starts, then they take it off. Anand Karaj is not something to inflate someone's ego, it's to remove someone's ego. Punjabis just can't let go of their ego and modernism.

If you want to see true Sikhism, true Gurmat principles...then look at the life of Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Jee. There was a story that goes something like this: After a Raensbhai Keertan Smagam, everyone
was tired and heading back home. While traveling or when reaching home, right away they were informed that there was an "Anand Karaj" taking place in a few hours and that they were invited. Despite what they had
been through (little sleep, little eating, lots of travel), they got so happy hearing the news of the Anand Karaj and left immediately. When they got there, they found out that the people getting married did not follow rehit and were not Amritdhari and did not want to take Amrit. Bhai Sahib and his companions refused to do Keertan and and refused to attend the "Anand Karaj" and left right away to go back home. (If someone has the full version of the story, please post it, I tried finding it, but couldn't).

On behalf
of The Sikh Awareness Society and the many organisations and groups we are
affiliated with; we would like to raise our concerns regarding the portrayal,
of the Sikh Institution and of those who serve to uphold the sanctity of the
Sikh faith, by the BBC.

We hope
that by taking time to explore some of the very basic fundamentals shared by
all faiths the BBC will not continue to differentiate and single out the Sikh
community, by airing the program “Sikh Wedding Crashers” scheduled for
broadcast on Monday 11^th March 2013.

Similar previous program on the 5^th July 2012, “Nihal BBC Asian Network”
broadcasted a show that provided in our opinion a fair, balanced and
importantly a factual representation of issues concerning interfaith marriage
within a Sikh Gurdwara. However the manner in which a 500 year faith was opened
for public opinion was in our opinion distasteful and disrespectful. The presenter
opened up the listeners to present their own conflicting opinions and beliefs
without proper representation from a recognised Sikh Body or Authority to
clarify the facts. Would the Catholic Church, Muslim Mosque or any other
Religious Institute or body be allowed to be presented in such manner? The
program was an attempt to disrupt community cohesion and incite division
amongst the communities.

Why is the BBC allowing representation from bodies that clearly operate against the
fundamental basic structure and beliefs of a religious organisation/institute
that is over 500 years old?

For clarity and understanding proper investigative teams should have worked with the facts
written and stated by the supreme body of the Sikhs “The Guru Granth Sahib Ji”.
This would fortunately have put a stop to any program hoping to sensualise or,
dramatise an issue on a public domain purely for entertainment.

The presenter and the BBC seem to have clearly already realised and such stated
facts surrounding the issue, during the program;

Sikhs do not serve judgement on
others.

To partake in a Sikh Marriage
Ceremony (to accept Guru Ji’s Hukam read during the ceremony)…you must
have accepted the faith.

The Sikh
Awareness Society has been inundated with emails, calls and personal messages
regarding a program to be aired on BBC Asian Network on Monday 11^th
March 2013, titled “Sikh Wedding Crashers”,
a program covering issues under the opening paragraph of

“Mixed marriages are on the
increase, but some Sikh couples face threats…

…Gurdwara where they dreamt of getting
married reluctant to perform ceremonies”

The very heading is defamatory, and negatively suggestive about practising Sikhs all
over the world. This based on facts already uncovered by your previous program
is another attempt to highlight and cause controversy and conflict within a
peaceful faith.

• No couple Sikh or other should be
  facing threats from Sikhs; that is not the Sikh way; Sikhs have a history
  of selfless serving and protecting others.
• A couple who do not understand
  ethos and principles of a faith/institution should respectfully decline and not attempt to marry within that
  institute.
• Devotees and followers of an
  Institution or faith have justification in upholding the sanctity of their
  belief, principles and ethos; this should be respected by all parties,
  including the BBC.

• Mixed marriages between “SIKHS”
  have never been and cannot be “banned” from Sikh Gurdwara. In the same
  manner a Church or Mosque would accept a practising couple into their
  community.

• The Gurdwara as with every
  other religious faith or institution should not be seen as “just a photo
  opportunity to dress up”. The
  religious faith or institution has the right to stop and ban such
  practices that are deemed disrespectful and harmful to such “CHOSEN” way
  of life
• The Gurdwara presents itself in
  the public as a Sikh place of worship and Sikh practices. Should; such
  Institution / faith religion, its followers allow the Gurdwara to become a
  business enterprise for personal gain?

In broadcasting such programs the BBC is flouting with discrimination and singling
out the Sikh community. This would again be unfair representation without facts
investigated and learned from the Sikh perspective “The Guru Granth Sahib Ji”
Views portrayed instead by the public based on public emotion opinion and speculation.

We humbly
request you to stop such programming and practices that serve only to fuel,
public animosity, lack of understanding and truth.

Sikhs hope that with better understanding and acceptance together we can eradicate the
many issues facing our communities for better community cohesion and peace.

I think what they (as in the AN) do is they seize upon a few hazy, difficult to interpret strands of a certain subject or issue, and in an attempt to try and sensationalise said issue, they add their own masala to it so that it demonises whatever group or faith being discussed, mostly Islam and Sikhi. When there's outroar from these two groups the AN are privately overjoyed because it gives their station a bit of profile, but publicly they trot out the classic "We're only trying to expose the reality of what happens in our communities", etc.

We've got to become wise to these Uncle Tom and Aunty Tomasina (lol) types who work at the BBC AN. Pure chamcha-giry and boot licking of the establishment by any Asian who chooses to work for that station. It's all about career advancement for these individuals who knowingly present half-truths and distortions in the guise of hard-hitting exposes, knowing fully well the actual reality of the situation all in the hope of gradually chipping away at the minds of gullible Asians listening to such shows who in turn begin to think "You know, maybe my Eastern religion and associated culture are a bit crap and outdated. I should become a secular slave to the British establishment and its causes".

The AN is nothing but a tool designed to make us lot conform and buckle down to the British agenda; not in a racial way, but from a nationalist perspective, much like how Christian missionaries flocked to Africa to tame the savages and introduce them to Christianity (clearly that wasn't a nationalistic policy but a religious one designed to obtain new followers). In spirit it's the same principle but now they're using our own people to do the dirty work, and disguised amongst the apparently innocuous culturual music output there's a determined policy from the AN to re-educate and re-calibrate the minds of those unfortunate to be tuned in to their station. Yes, most people when bombarded with the same message over-and-over again over a period of many years do eventually begin to to be affected by what they hear and see. Read Orwell's 1984, and it's that kind of stuff we're dealing with here, but on a much more subtle scale.

Funnily enough Hinduism never seems to get the same amount of scrutiny as Sikhi and Islam does from the AN, despite everything India and its Hindu ruling classes get up to in plain sight.
