In March 2012, eighteen year old University Student Jaspal Singh Sidhwan, was taking part in a peaceful sit down protest against Shiv Sena activists who had removed and defiled another students dastaar. Whilst they were reciting "Satnam Waheguru" jaap, Punjab police opened fire at the young unarmed students, resulting in Ranjit Singh sustaining a serious injury and in the death of Shaheed Jaspal Singh.

Shaheed Jaspal Singh's parents have been fighting a long and hard battle for almost two years to get justice for their only son's death, in cold blooded murder at the hands of the brutal police force. Sikhs around the world watched in horror as the scene was shown on TV channels but the authorities in Punjab failed to take any appropriate action. The family have carried the unbearable pain of their loss while the Police denied any wrongdoing.

Today in the case hearing, according to senior advocate Navkiran Singh, the court heard that the Punjab Police had finally admitted that their bullet did indeed kill Jaspal Singh Sidhwan. The case continues...
