Mahima Of Wahiguru, His Nam & His Gurmukhs ....

The Bani constantly reminds us of the One only Truth, which is Nam or Shabad.
Our sikhee, Gurmat, relies only on Nam, and if by anything is well known and accepted universally, it is by the believing in only the one Wahiguru, Nam or Shabad, which are three different words, but refers to the same Essence, same one everlasting Truth.
Apart from this, all else is "koorr".
Because, when nothing else stays, this Power continues on and on ceaselessly.
Everything and everyone, owes its existence to this One Truth. Sant Janas, Gurmukhs, sing the infinte glory throught their Bani.
If any spiritual level acheieved, purity, progress, nearness, or even merging in Wahiguru is ever possible, that is only possible by attaching ourselves with this very Power. And that also by the sacred practice of its Simran alone
This very Power, level of the highest Consciousness, is already within each one of us, irrespective of caste, creed, community, color, nationality, gender, or dharam that may anyone belong, but the fact is no one is without its presence.
Usually, when devotion to Wahiguru through Nam Simran is reffered, people generally have the believing that, this type of worship is only for mahapurkhs, gyanis, or Gurmukhs.....while for the rest of us mortals, ordinary beings, it is suffice to perform any other practice, ritual or dogma which constitute a part and parcel of the so called religions....
But the fact is, anyone of the highly spiritual beings owe their spiritual status through their constant and faithfull devotion and dedication to the jugtee of Nam Simrran.
Then why do we not understand, and want to be less and miss the golden opportunity of our birthright as human beings, to do the right devotion and merge in Him, becoming one with Him?
Or is it that due to our moorakhta, and agyanta, we want to remain with our limited and false individual ephimeral existence?
That also, when all is in our favour to do the right devotion only.
The Bani of Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj in Raag Gauree very cleary says:

Naam binaa jo pahirai khaa-ay, ji-o kookar joothan meh paa-ay
Without the Naam, one who dresses and eats well

is like a dog, who falls in and eats impure foods.

*Apart from Nam bhakti, if one does anything, it is like poison, it is bandhan, it is karma, it is agyanta. It may look good and attractive at first hand, but in the long run, we are to loose everything, because the poison of karmas, pujas, paaths, rituals, spreads through our whole being, and we die, it means, again we trapped in the endless wheel of births and deaths

Naam binaa jaytaa bi-uhaar. ji-o mirtak mithi-aa seegaar.
Without the Naam, all occupations are useless, like decorations on a dead body.

*He clearly says, if you do not do Nam bhakti as the only devotion of Wahiguru, you may look alive, but you are as good as a dead body, and all your efforts are futile .

Some times, we may wonder why is it so hard for us to understand the supreme importance of Nam and its Simran....
Why do we not understand the simple and direct teachings of our Guru Sahibans?
Why are we so square headed?
Well, although the Bani is open to all in a natural manner, there is a very strong statement in it:
Jaa Aap Kirapaal Hovai Har Suaamee, Thaa Aapanaan Naao Har Aap Japaavai
When the Lord Master Himself becomes merciful,
the Lord Himself causes His Name to be chanted.
Raag Bihaagrhaa Guru Amar Das , 555
Means, nobody can perform the devotion of His Simran, His Name being chanted, if He does want one to do so; this maybe the reason, of why instead of doing Nam Simran, we do so many other things ...which do not lead us to Him, thus neither our faith becomes strong, nor our mind and intelelect become pure ....and naturally in that state, any decisions we may take, all of them have to be wrong, in the sense, we do nothing as per His instructions to become like Him and merge in Him.
It is a real pity, to have to see and witness all this mayavee play, when we absolutely have everything in our favour:
We are born as human beings,as the highest in the creation, because only human beings are given the faculty and privliege to do the needful and return back Home, Sach Khand.
We have the best Bahagats, Sant Janas, Guru Sahibans on our side, and who have blessed us with their ambrosial Bani(Sikhee), but inspite of all that, we do nothing effective, to achieve that our goal, namely Wahiguru.
To depend, or rest our hopes on anything apart from Nam or the Lotus Feet of Wahiguru, according to the Bani, is the biggest mistake we can make....
That is why it says:
Naavahu Bhulaa Jag Firai Baethaaliaa
Having forgotten the Name, the world is roaming around like a wild demon.
Raag Maajh Guru Nanak Dev
*This is how our Guru Sahibans view us, if we do everything but not Nam Bhakti, they view us as demons...what a shame on us... and as demons, we can never ever enter our True Home, but remain in the planes of Maya. in the unending cycle of births and deaths.
And the funny thing is, inspite of what the Bani tell us to do, we do the very opposite, and still we call ourselves as religious minded people...... utter moorakhta!!!
Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru.

Bin Har bhajan jaytay kaam karee-ah taytay birthay jaanhi
Without meditating on the Lord´s Name, whatever deeds you do will be useless.

Jap tap sanjam karam sukh saaDhan tul na kachhoo-ai laahi.
Chanting, deep meditation, austere self-discipline, good deeds and other techniques to being peace - they are not equal to even a tiny bit of the Lord's Name.

Saarang mehlaa 5.

* In these two lines above of Sachay Patshah, in simple words as usual, He is telling us about the supreme importance of Wahiguru´s Name. He clearly states and declares, that do whatever you want, but if you do not do His simran as means of devotion or bhakti, then all our efforts are useless, in the sense, it may be nice towards our fellow people, our community, but in His eyes, this has no value at all.

Because, inspite of doing our bhajan bandagee, as per instructions in the Bani, we show dependance on many other factors.

Our relation is with Wahiguru alone, our hearts, our minds should be for Wahiguru alone, nobody should stand in our way. When He is all powerful, and is fully available for us without the need of any mediators, why do we still bring others in between? No matter how saintly or devoted they maybe, but the fact is, He is present in them in the same measure as in us, then too, we depend on others...

Is this our behaviour not showing our lack of faith in Him? The Bani sings His glory and lays importance on one Wahiguru alone and His Nam, but we like the hindus, have introduced many outer elements into the pure paviter Gurmat, such a pitiful scene.....

Sukhmani sahib, Anand Sahib, Japjee Sahib, as well as any other Bani of our Guru Sahibans, say that Nam is Supreme, and by doing its Simran, all our miseries shall end, not only that, but we shall become worthy of merging ourselves in Him.

Is that not the purpose of our devotion?

But we instead, like the hindus, if anything has to dealt spiritually, we also say, do this jaap/paath for so many times, or do it everyday at a particular time, or go there and visit that place .... The objective of our Guru Sahibans, throughout their Bani, was to withdraw our attention from the outer objects, things and places, which is nothing but: maya, koor, mithiyaa and naashvant, and try to attach it the only one permanent reality or Truth, which is Wahiguru and Nam, through its Simran. As simple as that.

But we have manipulated and twisted the meaning of the Bani quite a bit, so naturally the insight of the right direction of our goal is missed, and thus we have once again jumped outwards, there where is only darkness and agyanta.

Nanak, Nam, maha rus meetha.

This Nam is true Ambrosia, which once if tasted, all other tastes of the world are tasteless to us. This is the real purpose of Gurmat, to detach us from the world and its bandhans, and attach us to His Lotus Feet.

Waheguru.

Appointment of Sree Teg Bahadur Maharaj as Satguru

When eighth Patsahee Sree Guru Har Krishan, was about to pass away, the disciples asked Him, who will guide us after You have

gone?

The Guru Jee told them, "He who will guide you after I am gone will be found in the village of Baba Bakala".

A search was made in this small village, which was not far from Amritsar, but there seemed to be no one, who had the spiritual status of a Satguru.

As a consequence, there was great uncertanity as to who would be Guru Har Krishan´s successor.

Taking advantage of this, 22 of His disciples claimed to be the next Satguru.

While these events were taking place, a disciple named Makhan Shah, who was a merchant, was bringing a ship carrying a rich cargo from Persia to India.

While crossing the Arabian Sea, the vessel encountered a violent storm, that drove her away from her course, opened many of the seams of her hull, and in the end battered her to an extent that the ship began to sink.

Kneeling on the slopping deck, with the wave sweeping over him as he clung to stay, Makhan Shah raised his folded hands to the heavens and prayed to his Satguru, saying, if thou will save my ship and bring her safely to Bombay, I will make an offering of 500 golden sovereigns.

He had barely finished his prayers, when the ship righted herself, the seams in her hull were closed, and she sailed away buoyantly befor the gale.

In due course she reached Bombay, where Makhan Shah sold the cargo at a tremendous profit. When he reached Baba Bakala, he found the 22 claimants to the Guru´s throne, and was unable either to discover from others or decide in his own mind which one was the true Satguru.

In the end he went to each one of the 22 claimants, and offered 5 sovereigns to each, thinking that whosoever had saved his ship would speak out and tell him.

But none of them made any mention whatever of the ship and its perilous adventure. Far from satisfied, Makhan Shah asked, is there any other Guru in Baba Bakala, or in the villages nearby?

Yes there is a very holy man named Teg, who is secluding himself in a small house in Baba Bakala, he was told.

Makhan Shah reasoned that he would lose nothing, by visiting the 23 rd holy man, so he went once where Teg Bahadur was. Bowing low befor him, he placed 5 sovereigns at His Feet.

Why, said Teg Bahadur, as though in great surprise, this is not very honest of you Makhan Shah, to make an offering of 5 sovereigns only, when you promised 500, when your ship was sinking.

Makhan Shah was overjoyed, to have at last found the Satguru who had saved his life.

As he knelt before Him, Teg Bahadur removed His shirt and showed the nerchant, deep wounds on His shoulders.

See, brother, look at these wounds, the Satguru said. They were caused by the keel of your ship when I gave it the support of my shoulders.

The offering beloved Satguru, here is the offering, said Makhan Shah, placing a bag of sovereigns at the Guru´s Feet.

Then knowing that he had found the True Successor to Guru Har Krishan, he ran to the roof of the house and cried in a loud voice:

Brothers, I have founfd the True Guru.

It was thus how that Guru Teg Bahadur was discovered, or chose to reveal Himself ....

Waheguru Jee

P.S: this sakhee I found it very touching and soothing, and thought of sharing it with the Sangat .....

What is true Yoga

Bani Sree Guru Amar Das Maharaj

jog n bhagavee kaparree jog n mailae vaes

Yoga is not obtained by wearing saffron robes; Yoga is not obtained by wearing dirty robes.

naanak ghar bait(h)iaa jog paaeeai sathigur kai oupadhaes

O Nanak, Yoga is obtained even while sitting in your own home, by following the Teachings of the True Guru

In the couplet above of Dhan Guru Amar Das Maharaj, He clearly tells us, the real meaning of Yoga is union with the Primal Supreme Being, namely Wahiguru Akal Purukh.

He says: yoga or the union with the lord, is not obtained by dressing in a particular way, or going almost naked and wandering in the forests, but it can be obtained even leading the life of a "girashtee" or a householder, and at the same time following Gurmat, the teachings of Guru Sahibans.

Real detachment from moh, maya, relations and worldly possesions, can only be obtained by attaching our minds to something which is far more beautiful, enchanting, sweet and everlasting, that once tasting this Amrit, the mind stops running after any vikars, pleasures... or in one word, a paapee lustful life.

And this attachment to something far more sweeter than the sweetest, is nothing else but Naam itself.

That is why the Bani says:

Nanak, Naam maha rus meetha.

Sarab rog ka aukhad Naam

The Bani in the end, is nothing than mahima of Naam, the only everlasting Truth.

Waheguru

On devotion and the Lord´s will

Raag Ramkali

Bani Sree Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj

In the following lines of Sachay Patshah Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj, Truth of spirituality is revealed to us, in very simple words.

Firstly He says:

ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਇਕੋ ਇਕੁ ਧਿਆਇ

Man Than Saas Giraas Prabh Eiko Eik Dhhiaae

मनि तनि सासि गिरासि प्रभु इको इकु धिआइ

In your mind and body, with each breath and morsel of food, meditate on the One and only Lord God.

He says, to meditate on Him, one needs not to go anywhere.

Anywhere you may be, within your mind, which is within your body, do His Simran.

So with these words we can clearly see, He is not telling us to recite any religious sacred wordings, but just as simple as to recite His Name. This His remeberance, can be carried out, when one is eating, which is as good for drinking also.

Then He says, not only then, but even with each breath you take.

Now, the thing is, we take breaths while going to the supermarkets, to school, to work, while going to sleep, while at our shops, offices, in the plane, in the bus or car, whether inside or outside, whether in the day, or in the night, the list is endless.....

But the thing is to understand what Guru Jee is telling us.

In one word, He is saying, as long as you can breathe, and you are alive, wherever you maybe, never ever stop meditating in your mind. This also implies, one has not to wait for any so called auspicious time, to repeat His Name, but as soon as one reminds that one´s mind is free even for a second, that one should be spent in gathering the wealth of His Name. Because that place, that moment, that minute, that time spent in His rememberance, becomes sanctified, becomes blessed.....

Such is the magic of His wonderful Name .

Then He beautifully says says:

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ

Naam Dhhiaaee Naam Oucharaa Naanak Khasam Rajaae

नामु धिआई नामु उचरा नानक खसम रजाइ

Meditating on the Naam, and chanting the Naam, Nanak abides in the Will of his Lord and Master

Here He is telling us, that to please Wahiguru Akal Purukh, one need not do many different things, as He does not gets pleased by any of those our maanmat things.

Because He is one, and so, to abide in His will and make Him happy, lies our happiness as sikhs.

Because that is what one wants. To please our Lord Wahiguru. And pleasing Him, means remaining in His will. And His will for us, in the words of Guru Jee: is to meditate and chant His Naam.

Just as simple as that.

Being a sikh in the true sense is walking on this this path marked by Guru Jee for us, not on our maanmat. And to repeat His name, we need not the aid of anybody nor anybody´s authorization.

He is nobody´s property.... He belongs to all in the same measure.

It is with Him, with whom we want to establish our relationship, what has any third party to do ?

The lover(sikh) and the beloved(Wahiguru) are eager to meet, and Wahiguru is not any earthly being, with whom, someone else must come and introduce us to Him, and allow the relationship of love to take place.....

No, nothing of that sort, no one sholud keep us away from Him for that time being, by becoming a barrier between us and Wahiguru.

The guiding hand is in the Bani, through the Bani. The world is blind, and so are the manmukhs.

The tat of Gurmat in short, is to merge in Wahiguru by loving Him, as soon as possible, and once again, this is only possible by His Simran, not by any other means, no matter how hard and how often we may try, (but it is all useless in His eyes), as it does go in accordance with His will, His bhaana, as seen above.

Sat Sree Akal.

Bani Sree Kabir Jeeo

ਦਾਗੇ ਹੋਹਿ ਸੁ ਰਨ ਮਹਿ ਜੂਝਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਗੇ ਭਗਿ ਜਾਈ

Dhaagae Hohi S Ran Mehi Joojhehi Bin Dhaagae Bhag Jaaee

दागे होहि सु रन महि जूझहि बिनु दागे भगि जाई

Those who are branded with Your brand fight bravely in battle; those without Your brand run away.

Here Bhagat Kabir Jee, is telling us that, those who meditate on Him, with His Name, fight bravely with the mind and succeed in defeating it, others , the rest of the people, just give up, and say, no no I can sit no more.

As recommended by all Saints, Naam is the only weapon to fight with the mind and defeat it forever, otherwise, the fierce and mighty mind, no matter which other bhaktis we may do, will not leave/loose its grip on us. It is only when, it gets hurt by the blows of His Simran, that, it falls K.O.

And this is because, though we may never ever estimate the real value of His Simran, which most of us take it so lightly, but the fact is, it empowers us with His power, to overcome our weaknesses, sins, vikars, etc ..... and become as pure paviter as He is, so to say, to merge in Him.

Then Kabir Jee says:

ਕਬੀਰਿ ਦੀਈ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਕਉ ਲੀਨੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ

Kabeer Dheeee Sansaar Ko Leenee Jis Masathak Bhaag

कबीरि दीई संसार कउ लीनी जिसु मसतकि भागु

Kabeer gives it to the world, but he alone receives it, upon whose forehead such destiny is recorded.

In the above line He is clearly telling us, the Bani constantly tells us to do His bhajan bandagee of His Simran, but many of us prefer to do many other things.

This is so because, he alone can repeat His Name, on whose forehead is written so by Him, not otherwise....

What can the poor mortal do also.... To devote oneself to Him, in His real bhakti, is also a bakshish from Wahiguru, let no one think that it is done per our will... we are moorakhs.

Gyan, dhyan, kich karam na janaa ..... saar na janaa teree, sabse wadah Satgur Nanak, jin kal rakhee meree

By myself my Lord, I have no merits, have not any knowledge, nor do I know how to sing your glory adecuately, it is only becase of You, through your grace, that you have accepted me at Your Lotus Feet.

Wahiguru the maker/doer, soul, mind and karmas .....

The Supreme Being´s primary unit of creation, is not made of matter.

His fundamental being is a little being, the soul, the jeeva, made of His own substance, in His own image, being or consciousness.

Every living creature is a being, a drop so to speak, of the Ocean of that Supreme Being, Supreme Consciousness. And every creature also has a mind attached, - which is also a drop so to say of the higher universal mind - which acts as a sort of dynamic, ever changing screen throug which "reality" is perceived. And the mind is formative. It is the mind which creates multiplicity of changing forms. The mind consists of subtle, shifting patterns - limitations or constraints upon the essential being or consciousness within. And it is the mind that is projected outwardly or crystallized, so to speak as body.

This is what makes one species different from another - the character of the mental envelope around the soul.

The mental pattern from which the physicall form is manifested. And a part of that mental envelope is what we call instinct- the unconscious and mysterious mental functioning that constrains each creature to behave in the way it does.

Every creature is a being encapsulated by the mind, which has taken material form as body.

That is how beings reincarnate and transmigrate from one body to another. What a being does in one body, it leaves impressionson its mind, which then precipates or manifests as body and destiny to which that being is bound in subsequent lives

Reincarnation is the result of subtle, hidden processes of the formative mind. The mind is the means by which the requiremnets of the karmic law are worked out. The law of karma is actually the law of mind - of duality, of cause and effect, of events happening in time.

Now the question of releasing the soul from being encapsulated in mind and the three coverings, to become imaculate and worthy of its union and merging in Wahiguru, is the key for our freedom from the mayavee creation.

How to achieve that?

The whole of the Bani, is nothing but a constant stressing, that by meditating upon Him, through His Simran, is the only way to our sure success from the perishable creation, to Sach Khand, the realm of Truth and eternity .

Nothing more, nothing less.

A LESSON OF lOVE

We have all heard, God is Love and Love is God.

It is by the link of Love, by which we attach ourselves with Him, and finally merge in Him.

Dasvee Patshahee says :

Saach keho suun laeho sabhay, jin praem keeo tin hee prabh paaeyo.

I speak the truth, listen everyone: Only the one who is absorbed in True Love shall attain the Lord.

Now, the question is how to Love Wahiguru.

Do we need to say or repeat Him constantly : Wahiguru I love You, I love You ..... ?

That is not the right attitude.

Even at our worldly level, when we love someone, we try not to do anything which may cause hurt, and also the main thing is to spend as much time as possible in the company of the Beloved.

So then, how can we express our love to our Beloved Wahiguru Akal Purukh?

And as we saw above, Tenth Patshahee says, whosoever loveth Him, shall merge in Him.

Here, He is revealing us the secret of spirituality, that merging in Him, is only possible by loving Him.

And we all know, that only by His Simran, His Dhyan, can we realize Him and merge in Him.

It has to be so, as we do His Bhajan Bandagee, we spend a part of our time in His presence , this is in reality singing His praises, and telling Him in His own langauge, the language of love, Wahiguru Sachay Patshah, I love You alone.

Wahiguru does not want any words from us, He wants our intentions to be expressed through action, and these can can only be possible through the channel of bhakti of His Naam Simran.

Gurmukhs, Sant Janas, come for the only purpose of making us aware of our spiritual nature, and at the same time infuse a bit of His love in us, by singing His infinte Glory, then they plead us, to make grow that love in us for Him through His Simran, till the day comes, when we find ourselves totally filled with His Divine Love in all our being, then only, our tiny self of Love(soul/jeeva) can merge in that Satnam Samundar of Love.

Thus, the beautiful words of Dasam Pitah, become true in terms of realization for us: Jin prem kiyo, tinhee Prabh paayo ...

Reasoning and Gurmat

God gave us intellect to carry on the works of this world of phenomena.

Beyond that, our wisdom can not reach ....

One who relies on reason alone, can not atain True knowledge(knowledge of the Lord).

Reasoning is the function of our physical brain......

God and spiritual things, can be realized by the direct perception of the soul, through contact with the Shabad.

The soul can perceive clearly, without going through the process of reasoning.

Our mind is too feeble and limited to comprehend the unlimited and incomprehensible One,

Wahiguru Akal Purukh.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
