Orange Hazooria

Such 'small' things shouldn't be labelled pro or anti-Gurmat as per my thinking...

Hazoorea is a part of Gurmukhi baana that you should have with you as much as possible, and absolutely when doing seva of any kind and while sitting in taabea of Guru Granth Sahib. For reference refer to the book Se Kanheaiya by Baba Seva Singh Ji.

Traditinally it was always white and even now most of Maha Purakhs/Jathedaars of different Jathebandis usually prefer white over other colors. I was once looking for pictures of Gursikhs online and couldn't find any pictures where anyone iswearing a kesri hazoorea.. the only exception was of those Gurmukhs from Nihung Singh Jathebandis.. I haven't come across any pictures of Taksali Singhs wearings hazooreas of other colors.

The reason why hazooreas are preffered to be white is because you can easily tell if it's dirty on that color.. where as with other colors, it's usually hard to tell which is clean to be worn in taabea of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Sometimes ppl mistake 'siropaao' with 'hazoorea'. Siroopaos can be of any color because they are not meant to be used as hazoorea but to be worn on one's head.

Now if soemone does happen to wear a kesri hazoorea for one day.. s/he doesn't automatically become a tankhaaea as it is really a small thing if you think about it. But when that person is doing seva of Guru Granth Sahib ji, he or she should definetely try to have a white one on as traditionial ways are always encouraged  ... If not, I personally wouldn't consider it a kurehit..

99.99% of the time I only wear white..

anyway, there were my own personal opinions..

Gur Fateh!

"Son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji" thanks for your informed response.

I was wondering the same thing, as Manjot Singh Veer Ji indicated in his blog that he wore an "orange" hazooria whilst making his recent film and that he consider it to be 'anti-gurmat'.

He is entitled to his views, however please could the forum help me understand something.

Gurmat, the path of light, is a priniciple surely rather than a rule?

Maybe I am mistaken, however I always seek principles over rules, for principles are timeless and work for all solutions, rules are rigid, fixed, static and specific and often temporary.

Surely if one lives by 'gurmat' it is a reference to living in the spirit of Guru's Wisdom, the Gur (Light) Mat (way, path, wisdom, etc)?

Now to come back to this use of the term 'anti-gurmat', this is an interesting term I see used many times on this forum, another one would be Manmukh, which is easier to understand, however 'anti-gurmat' is used in a manner applicable to a rigid set of rules rather than universally acceptable, timeless principles.

Perhaps I am wrong, please offer your thoughts.

Thanks,

Niranjana.

Sikh Soldier, as I stated above, Siropaos are very different from hazooreas. Siropaos used to be given to someone who had done some Panthik work, not like nowadays when anyone gets it by giving a little donation. Siropaos are meant to be worn as dastars or as kamarkasse whereas hazoorea is to be worn in the neck so u can have easy access to it while doing paath, kirtan or any other type of seva.

Here's a recent article which is a bit related to siropao history: http://news.waheguroo.com/633Q6-12649-443Q...3-13732-39.html

Now i'm not 100% sure if Mann is saying that siropo maryara is wrong alltogether. But as I said, in past they were not presented to 'anyone' but rather on something big. For ex., when Baba Jernail Singh Ji became Jathedaar of Damdami Taksal, a lot of Gurmukhs tied siropae over top of his dastar. And I think that's how they were presented in past.

And now since many of us might be getting a siropao every month at our local Gurdwara Sahib, we have just started using them as hazooreas. Because we cannot really save all of them. And why would we want to save them? Getting one so often belittles the value of it. Imagine getting a siropao once in your life time! Wouldn't that mean something else to us?

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
