Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Dear brothers and sister, please think and read this message carefully. All these bollywood films make sikhs looks like complete fools, how many times have you seen a singh play a "heroic", "good" role nowdays? Singhs are made to look like complete idiots and generally very bad people. Take for example the film gadar the singh in there is a total clown? no.gif

Even when the play "bezti" was shown and a few singhs done what had to be done, the sikhs in the uk where protrayed as "Mobs", "Vandals" and one muslim news reporter for the bbc live on air went as far as saying,

"... on the BBC. As Hanif Kuersehi really put the boot in, labeling us as Philistines, uncultured and ungrateful immigrants etc..."

But yet when the bradford riots erupted no terms like this where used? :|

Even when the tsunamis struck asia pray.gif Neasdon mandir for the last few days was on the news everyday for supplying some aid but yet when all the other gurudwara sahibs up and down the uk and sikh aid teams like Khalsa Aid (Slough) are going to the diaster stricken places no media coverage is shown? mad.gif

Whats the sangats general view on how the media protrays sikhs espicially in the UK?

You are so right about the tsunami disaster. The problem here is more with the Sikhs organising the relief efforts than the media. It only takes a phone call to the TV stations and they will send cameras there provided the story is worthwhile. In the present atmosphere the media is looking for ways to show the solidarity of all communities and I'm sure if the Gurdwaras had rung the TV stations they would have featured the sikh efforts. I remember in 1997 when hundreds of thousands of people were attending Princess Diana's funeral and the London gurdwaras had organised Langar for those waiting on the streets the media only showed some Muslims praying at a mosque and the sikh effort was overlooked.

The media at the moment is only showing the efforts in Mosques, Mandirs, Churches and Buddhist temples. The present effort is a good way to undo some of the bad publicity that was generated over the behzti incident.

Everyone here can do their own bit by ringing up radio shows or emailing the TV stations highlighting the sikh effort.

Thats very true. Its stupid actually cause the mosque they showed, there effort was putting a red buket in the courner of the room with a paper saying Tsunami Apeeal. and offering prayers. Some gurdwaras have had £2000 gathered in a few minutes. I think the main prob is they dont know how to get the media down there and intrested.

They dont know how to communicate with the media, they dont know the channel or anything. Think about it. a family from Patiala donated loads of monet. in Karoors and is going with SGPC to see it distributed.

does anyone know about it. NO

SGPC alone has donated karoors or rupai and this sikh froom Patial aswell has addedd to it, but only 1 Sikhi radio program reported it, and thats it no.gif

Singstah is right. It would be nice if others appreciated our efforts, but we don't need to go round publicising them. The Gurmat principle that an individual shouldn't show off about his Seva applies also to the Khalsa Panth as a whole. We should carry on doing our Seva in a humble manner, and Guru Jee will fill the Jholeeya of his Sikhs himself. The Maan and Vadiyaee that the Sikh gets from the Guru is far greater than any recognition to be achieved on national media. But if the Guru so wills, he will accord worldly recognition to his Sikhs in any case; we shouldn't actively pursue such recognition.

The British media (espically BBC) is very pro-black, pro-muslim. But unfortunately they dont treat our community with the same respect shown to others. The only way to counter it is to get involved from the inside and make changes. Doesnt matter how many positive things you do for British society, as people with anti-sikh agenda's would not want them recognised. If you can't get jobs in these organisations then set up media companies, become playwriters, etc. So that there is material for them to air.

As for doing chartiable acts, well thats a matter of conscience and should not be done for the prime reason of getting publicity or fame.

the real problem here is the gurdwaras and sikh org.s need to work together and make fewer larger donations in one go that would be more attention-grabbing like islamic aid are doing- they were on the media saying how they were aiming for £ X millions... that sort of stuff gets people listening...

fact is the sikhs are donating a LOT but individually to different places and charities at different times.

Please remind the British of the Sikhs contribution during the 1st World War and particulary the 2nd World War sacrifices.

2005 marks 60 years of the end of the 2nd World War. The nation of India supplied the largest volunteer force for the Allies. It is estimated that nearly 75% of the Indian forces were Sikh. How will the nation of India and particularly the Sikh Community across the globe mark this historic occasion?

Below is a link to a highly respected Sikh Regiment that contributed to the Allies during World War II.
