Lalo and Bhago On one of his journeys, Guru Nanak stayed with a carpenter in a place called Emnabad. The carpenter's name was Lalo. A local wealthy man named Bhago decided to give a feast and invited all around, including Guru Nanak. However, the Guru did not attend; when asked why, Nanak replied he would rather eat the carpenter's bread because it had been earned by honest work, whereas Bhago's great feast had been the result of exploitation of the poor. Nanak said that the bread had been stained by the blood of the poor. When Bhago protested, Guru Nanak took a piece of Lalo's bread and a piece of Bhago's bread and suqeezed them both. Milk dripped from Lalo's bread, whi…

Don't know where this is from, but it's true: "It is a misconception that we the Khalsa today are weak. We still have the same basic ingredients that our predecessors had - the Gurbani in the Shabad Guru, Guru Granth Sahib jee, and our Khande Batte Da Amrit. What we lack are the Simran and Rehat"

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! This is my translation of a article in the Sikh Phulwari December 2003 edition. Sikh Phulwari is the monthly magazine of the Sikh Missionary College, Ludhiana How I become a Singh It is said that behind every achievement there is usually an unseen hand. My achievement (in becoming a Sikh ) is because of the love filled humility of the Sikhs. I am 39 years old and ply my Riksha in the city. One day an elderly Sikh gentlemen got on my Riksha and asked to be taken to the Sikh Samagam being held in my city. He called to me "Pyare Betay" ( dear son ). Hearing him referring to me as such filled with joy. I joined my hand to…

There once was a young student who went everyday to visit a wise and spiritually blessed old man. Each day after school the boy would visit and listen to the old man narrate the Guru teachings and in turn he would help the old man with chores. The old man would always be very happy to see the boy. However one day the boy came to the old man's home as he did everyday. Upon entering the old man summoned him to his side at once. The old man had a grave look on his face. After sitting the boy down he started "Dear boy tommorrow you will die and visit me no longer, you will not see the sun rise, not hug your parents and siblings, not eat a morsel of food as this is yo…

vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! Becuase of the number of cases of beadbi being done to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, there needs to be a solution, and quickly, before things get too late. There needs to be some stricter rules in place to safeguard the respect and dignity of Maharaj. Presently there are laws, where if violated, people and groups can be excommunicated from the panth. However, many people such as in BC, do not care. The cultural and business aspects for them having a Gurdwara far outweigh any sense of dignity or panthic duty. A possible solution to this would borrow the idea of government issued passports, licenses and other government cards w…

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalasa! Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh! Guru Amar Das' elder daughter, Dani, was married to a pious Sikh named Rama. His younger daughter, Bibi Bhani, was married to Jetha who was also most devoted to serving the Guru and his Sikhs. A gathering of followers came to the Guru and said, " Both Raina and Jetha are equally related to you and both perform works with great devotion. Although Rama is older, you seem to favor Jetha. Would you please tell us why?" The Guru said, "I am looking for the one who serves with greater faith, devotion, humility, and obedience. I am going to make a trial of Jetha and Rama; whoever fulfills my wishes the best will be the worthier of t…

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh! Upon hearing that the seven year old Guru was called Sri Har Krishan, a proud Brahmin went to visit him. He complained, "The poet in the Bhagavad Gita merely calls God Krishan, but you call yourself Sri Har Krishan. If you are such a great guru, come and translate the Gita with me." Guru Har Krishan said to the Brahmin, "I have not read the Gita, and even if I had, you would say I was just some rich man's son who had a private tutor. Bring some ignorant peasant to discuss it with you, and when you have proved your superiority, I will speak to you." The Brabmin went out and got Chhajju, a simple water-carrier, from the nearest …
