The author owes grateful thanks to Dr. Sarjeet Singh Sandhu of Chandigarh, now living in the United States; and to Sardar Gurmit Singh, earlier of Papua New Guinea, and now living in Australia, for reading and commenting on an earlier draft of the paper. I am specially grateful for the several references to the text of Guru Granth Sahib that they provided relating to the topics of "revelation" and "independent religious identity" of Sikhism. Doubtless Sikhism is an independent relgion. But it is also true that Sikhism has intimate connection with Hinduism and Islam. This is part of the dynamics and development of religious and socio movements within frameworks of histo…

Taken from another website... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is fascinating to study the human values, from Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh, in the context of teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib not only in the moral and socio-economic issues but also within our political and historical perspective. Societies may change in history, men may come and go across the world’s stage. Political conditions inevitably affect the course of events as well as the contemporary culture of society. Yet basic human values are eternal and human frailties a behavioral constant. In the words of Guru Nanak: …

Source: http://members.pgonline.com/~mpurewal/chapter03.html 1. Guru Gobind Singh gave one Amrit. Now, we have so many Amrits - Akal Takhat Amrit, Sant Amrit, Jatha Amrit, etc. Why is there such a conflict about what an Amritdhari should do or should not do? Ans: i) The Guru gave one Amrit and one Maryada, then why are there so many Amrits today? This is rightly a big question in the minds of all Sikhs. We know the reason for there being so many Maryadas, but we don't know how to convince these different groups to accept the approved Maryada as the one given by the Guru. The Guru authorized the Panj Pyaras to give Amrit to anyone desirous of joining the Khalsa Panth…

STRUGGLE BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL - THE MYTHICAL STORY OF GODDESS CHANDI. WORTH READING!!!!!!!!!! The story of Goddess Chandi and // Bhagauti Ji Ki in Sri Dasam Granth Sahib are mythical, where the human Instincts and Passions have been personified as Demons, goddess Chandi as God’s Light (JOT) in all, verily God abiding in all as SatGuru, and Human Self as gods. Who is Goddess Chandi? Guru Gobind Singh in the Introduction to the description of 'Twenty Four Avtars of Vedic conception, translated from the Purans, states: "God is the Father of this Universe, in that all activity of creatures (both visible and invisible) is verily His Potential. The Energy or Ligh…

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Sangat Jee, the adoration of Bhai Nand Lal sweetly opens our eyes, for he saw in Guru Gobind Singh the shining light of heaven, the beauty of the Lord. Jee, I was reading this article about Bhai Nand Lal and his devotion (for Gurdev Pita Jee), here is something that reflects the general theme of the article: ‘O’ the Prince of Heaven, The Prince of divine Beauty Pray do not bedazzle me. I have no more strength left in me. I am allured and charmed; I sacrifice myself into the fascinated by the Glory, O Beloved.” With these words of devotion Nandlal bowed down, saying : ‘Lord! my doubts are dispelled, I know the T…

Guru's Voice to Hear When all the world is looming dark and things seem not so clear, When shadows seem to hover 'round, May I have Guru's voice to hear. When it seems everything's been tried And there's no way to go, Just let me keep remembering, "Sometimes the journey's slow." I may just need to stop and rest ; A time to understand , The path set by the Gurus is the best. As I gain new strength to procede, Without a doubt or fear And the greatest bliss The Guru's voice to hear. I love my Guru! by Harjinder Singh (sikhnet.com)

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Not exactly poetry (or anything good)...but the sentiments I have been feeling for the past few days... The main theme of the past days have certainly been: 'thaahan baikunth jaa keertan teyra..tu aapay shurda layeea' Heaven is where your praises (keertan) are sung, you yourself instill faith in us. and saadhhasa(n)gath baiku(n)t(h)ai aahi ||4||10|| The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is heaven. It's such a blessed day..the sun is shining--what a gift..waheguroo..My eyes are so damp, I'm smiling--you're smiling, His love is greater than any power of this universe. He is so enticing to the mind, sweetness …
