Musical Framework of Guru Granth Sahib

Source: http://www.sikhreview.org/may2002/music.htm Gurbani Keertan today has been commercialized to such an extent that, barring a few, most singers are only concerned with making quick money. Their limitations to experiment within the prescribed vastness of Guru Granth Sahib is camouflaged in the excuse that the Sangat does not prefer to listen to Keertan in Raags as prescribed by the Gurus and thus it is easier to convey the message of Gurbani in catchy tunes. This shallow argument poses questions, like: "What does Guru Granth Sahib, our eternal Guru command us on the subject of Keertan? Why is it that the Gurus chose raags to classify Gurbani? What is the relation be…

I have no achievements, merit, intellect, nor progress. Kindness bestowed awakened this once widowed soul. Hope, desire, and support immersed with love lit the way. Soon the miseries of separation seized...instantaneously… Moments, and my widowed soul was wed. I was wed to the everlasting Husband-Lord. My Husband-Lord adorned me with jewels of devotion, grace, and humility. Naam became my support, Guru Maharaj Jee the guide, and my divine’s gifts turned to ever lasting bliss… “On the road, and on the river, these supplies are always with me. I have made my mind the Lord's companion.” Through every instant the support elevates to summits of anand, sat, santokh, a…

My Reality

As I feel the fatigue take over my body, I still smile within my heart... Alas, it's time for bed, and I can dream... In dreams I see the priceless treasures... Piercing my mind and body, I am enticed... Crying to the universe I understand.. My soul is drenched... Dyed in a deep crimson... Vibrating through my being, the formless takes over... My soul has found the open-ended... Untied for countless life forms... My string has been tied with the divine knot... Dreams transform into satnaam..my reality...

Excellence of Sikhism, Sarup S. Alag Mr. B.S. Murthi, former Minister of State for Health, Government of India, wrote a book entitled 'Opressed and Depressed'. In this book he described the problems of opressed and scheduled(backward) castes in India and advised the socially backward brethren that if they wanted to live a life of pride, honour and poise then they should accept the baptism of 'Khande Bate da Amrit' and take refuge in Guru Granth Sahib. Thus they will be saved from the age long chronic disease of social stratification and inequality. He further states: "In India, there is more need to bring awakening in scheduled class compared to any other caste. The…

"Why are you crying?" a young naujawan asked his mom. "Because I'm a woman" she told him. "I don't understand," he said. His mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will".......... Later the little boy asked his daddy, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?" "All women cry for no reason" was all his dad could say........ The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry. Finally he put in a call to WAHEGURU JI; when He got on the phone, the man asked "O WAHEGURU JI, why do women cry so easily?" WAHEGURU said....... "When I made women she had to be special. I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world; yet, …

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Piare Gursikhs, I want to know if Sikhs should be allowed to associate themselves with people that call themselves Sikhs, i.e., Radhaswamis, Nirankaris, etc. This is because I have a friend who comes to the Gurdwara that I go to regularly, and he is from a Nirankari background. But, he doesn't call himself a Nirankari, but thinks that this whole thing of different types of Sikhs is wrong and is prepared to follow the way of life that a "normal" Gursikh would follow. I hope you can really help me answer this question that has been bugging me for quite a long time. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
