link to original thread once moderators are no longer missing! so last week was west bromwich nagar keertan. the west midlands transport didn't even bother calling us sikhs, instead they used the terms "indian religious worshippers" and "indian religions". was it ignorant goras, anti-sikh hindus (I am not sold on this though but you never know) or sikh-hating muslims (like some of the muslim police officers)???

Questions about new Sikhs
by Guest Guest Sikh- 1 reply

Just out of curiosity, I have a few questions about new Sikhs When a person who is not born into a Sikh family decides to believe in Sikhi, do they have to take Amrit to be considered a "Sikh". So non-Amritdhari/Monay Punjabi-Sikhs get married in Gurdwara's, but can a non-Amritdhari & non-Punjabi Sikh also get married in a Gurdwara? If a person from a non-Punjabi/Sikh family background starts believing in Sikhi, but don't want to take Amrit yet, how do they officially "convert".

Warning for the future

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh I thought I would post here since people here aren’t total missionaries. I used to be a poster here, but I quit many many years ago, after quitting I focused on my life but also did my own Jaap of bani and focused on that, I was fortunate enough to be blessed by Maharaj in a small capacity. But the times approaching are going to hell for us as a people and for the world. Guru Sahib warned us already, but we’ve not heeded at all. I should warn you that in Gurmat, Prophecies rarely have dates because a Mahapurakh is able to do Ardaas and Guru Nanak Sahib Ji will then push the event back and lower its effect. Baba Nand Si…

Sister-in-law believes pakhandi babe and pandit
by Guest Gupt sad- 3 replies

Sat Sri Akal everyone, I'm writing to you all because the situation at home is now unbearable. My elder brother was married to a girl, it didn't go on well between the two and they got a divorce. My younger brother got married to a girl (from India) and she came at home abroad just a year ago. The issue is that she, and her mother, go to pandits and pakhandi babe. We did not know that. Any issue happens, they go see the pandit, someone fell off the scooter --> they go ask the pandit why. And whatever the pandit says (put a coconut during 9 days in some place etc, avoid eating garlic etc) they listen. My sis in law suffered from some allerg…

Have I been an ungrateful person towards my organization and my boss ? feeling guilty

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh So I stay in India, and have been working in this organization as a software engineer for around more than 7 years now. The org is somewhat small , with around 150 people I think at most. It has felt really comfortable working with these guys. They're decently nice guys, atleast the boss I interacted with the most (he's director and cofounder of the org). I remember this job was a miracle from waheguru ji. I got it when I needed it the most. And a miracle had happened at that time. HR manager had kind of rejected me in the final round as he had better candidates, then this director guy had for some reason taken c…

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji Fateh, My question is in relation to feeling scare of doing paath. I used to do paath regularly and do ardaas for my mother's health but she passed away. then I did not do paath for many years. I gathered my courage and started praying when my brother fell sick and he also passed away. Now I am very scared of doing paath. I want to do it but feel scared that something might go wrong. Is babaji angry with me? If not, then why did this happen and how can I deal with it?

About relatives and marriage
by Guest Kaur- 4 replies

Sat Shri Akal ji, I was thinking many times should I discuss this topic in sikh forum or not. Now, I decided to share that. I am living in Australia. When I came Australia after 1 year my father died. My all relatives tell or can say pressure my mom now you should found a girl for your son that will help you to come up from this situation. My mother was already in trauma so she thought thar her father, mother or bother, sister thinks good for her. So, all relatives started to found a girl for my brother. My mother’s sister(my massi ji) tells about a girl to my mother and said she is doing IELTS you should marry your son with that girl. Your daughter and son will be toge…

dealing with shame and guilt

mental health +guilt/shame/anxiety + accepting hukam So, i was wondering what parts of SGGS ji and Bani speaks on mental health as well as dealing with shane and what not. To elaborate, i have bpd and as such have trouble detaching shame/guilt/etc from my past actions/situations/circumstances. As i try to incorporate Naam more and more into my daily life, i become more and more educated on/aware of/conscious of past behaviours/their consequences/behavioural cycles that i had/have or regurgitated from family and loved ones. Thus, as i learn more (thanks to Waheguru ji ofc), i find myself hurting and feeling shame for the actions i had taken/ways i behaved and tre…

Alcoholism recovery
by Guest Singh- 4 replies

I am struggling with alcohol use disorder - my drinking has put me in unsafe situations and I have no doubt that if I continue down this path, I will be back in jail or in the hospital. Does the Gurdwara or community have any resources that can help? I have looked into AA and things, but it felt cultish to me- I would prefer to pursue my recovery around the word of our Gurus, and I am not sure where to begin. Do I just show up to the Gurdwara and say I have an addiction problem? Do I perform service every time I feel a temptation? Any advice is welcomed.
