  1. Whenever one wants to change the world, they are first told to begin at home and then change the world. I don’t think anyone has heard it more than me. Like many Sikhs I am troubled by the direction our religion is headed. I am troubled by the politics, the caste issues, girl boy ratios, outside influences on practice of Sikhism and etc. One could go on all day listing everything that needs to be changed back to how the Guru Sahiban left it for us. But every time I begin to talk about these issues with family or friend, I am asked what I am doing about it or what I can do about it. At that point typically I have to be quiet because I honestly feel hopeless/helpless about bringing change. That is till recent times; today I will not be quiet as I plan on bringing change starting from home. In recent times the Sikh turban and articles of faith have made news quite a few times. Sikhs are outraged at how blatantly our Turbans are being disrespected and non-Sikhs for the most part don’t have a clue what the big deal is. Though it must be noted that some Sikhs are also confused about what’s going on and again what the big deal is. My idea is just that; to inform Sikhs, non-Sikhs and the people in a position to make a difference. On one of the highly celebrated Sikh holiday, Visakhi, the Punjabi class which I attend will hold a town hall style meeting regarding the turban. The hope is that if the guests are invited three months or so prior to the event, they can’t use the schedule conflict excuse to get out of it. The three months also give us enough time to thoroughly research and prepare speeches and presentations that would best represent the interests of Sikhs around the world. Speeches that inform and inspire will be given. All speakers will be local Sikhs, mostly youth with no hidden agendas. All issues will be clear and out in the open, no behind closed door meetings. With this attitude of change we hope to achieve an understanding with the local Senators and TSA officials on what the issues are and why there needs to be a change in the treatment of the turban. We hope the youth will be able to gather support from local Sikhs and Non-Sikhs alike as they extend their hand to Senators to work on a plan for change. And outside of immediate people in attendance, we hope this meeting will inspire sangat around America to hold similar meetings with their senators and TSA officials. Together we need to send the message to the United States and the world that we will not let the turban become the symbol of terrorism. Our humble request to all sangat reading this article is to provide us feedback, links, information and just about anything they think is important for us to research to make this meeting a success. We can only bring about a change with the blessings of Waheguru Ji and the support of the sangat. 3. Marriages of Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji When Guru Ji reached the age of 18, his personality and beauty reached its peak. He was very attractive. Guru Ji was of medium build and slim. Guru Ji's beautiful face was showing the first signs of very fine facial hair. He is said to have possessed such an attractive personality tht anyone who saw him could not resist hugging him. Mata Gujri, the mother of guru Sahib Ji thought that it was time to marry Guru Sahib Ji. Guru Gobind Singh Ji got married to Mata Sindari Saroop from Lahore on Vaisakhi day 1684. The climate prevailing in the country did not allow Guru Ji to go to lahore, instead the marriage took place at Guru Ka Lahore. According to the Mahan Kosh Granth, Guru Ji's wife Mata Sundari Ji was from Lahore. She was the daughter of Bhai Ram Saran Kumrau Patri . Many thought that this was Guru Sahib Ji's second marriage but it seems more than likely that Mata Sundari Ji's name prior to marriage was Mata Jito Ji. It was most likely ji that Guru Ji named her Sundari Saroop. Two different names led to the assumption of two different marriages and hence two different partners.

  5. It all depends on who will be doing the whole talk. I would encourage them to invite Veer Gurinder Singh Mann (UK); he can connect to younger generation and explains quite well providing historical facts. He did quite a bit research on this issue. I would encourage them to have only non-controversial, non-political, non-jathabandi ppl on the show otherwise it is just waste of time. Bhai Sahib G.S. Lamba (originally from Patna) started reading Dasam Granth from the very young age. He has immense knowledge on its content and linguistic part and so on.. There are many positive, non-biased gian walay scholars who can really explain well to everyone and make ppl understand easily. The only thing we can do is to give them a platform to speak.

  7. Agreed, it should be promoted, if anything. Simply, they should address the misconceptions and destroy the propaganda and misinformation that is being spread. Being neutral means you are acknowledging the other side, in some cases it may be okay, but not when Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji's bani is going to be the subject.

  9. Orr maybe we should use the calendar approved by Maharaj: "Sambat Sattrah Sahas Bhanijjai Aradh Sahas Phun Teen Kahijai..." or when Guru Nanak Dev ji maharaj used the Bikrami calendar to foretell of Baabar coming: "They shall come in '78, depart in '97, and then shall rise another disciple of a hero.[1]" All Guru Sahibs used the Bikrami calendar, I don't think akal takht can rule over what maharaj found acceptable: To Sukhninder paji, the dates are as follows: (M:/P: = Mahalla ior Paatisaahee, sorry had to write short hand don't have much time, number indicates which Guru Sahib ) Avatar P:10 11 Jan Avatar M:7 16 Jan Guriaee M:7 1 April Guriaee M:3 4 April Jotee jot M:2 7 April Jotee jot M:6 8 April Vaisakhi 14 April Guriaee M:9 16 April Jotee jot M:8 16 April Avtaar M:9 22 April Avtaar M:5 24 April Avtaar M:2 4 May Avtaar M:3 16 May Guriaee M:6 25 May Jotee jot M:5 5 June Avtaar M:6 16 June Avtaar M:8 24 July Guriaee M:5 30 August Pehla Prakash SGGSJ 30 August Jotee jot M:4 31 August Guriaee M:4 10 September Jotee jot M:3 12 September Guriaee M:2 17 September Jotee jot M:1 22 September Avtaar M:4 14 October Guriaee M:8 21 October Jotee jot M:7 21 October Guriaee SGGSJ 28 October Jotee jot P:10 31 October Avtaar M:1 10 November Guriaee P:10 27 November Jotee jot M:9 29 November Avtaar P:10 31 December

  10. Gurfateh ! Pictures 1 and 3 are of Gurdwara Ber Sahib in Sialkot - like Kam Bhai Sahib has said it commemorates Guru Nanak Sahib's meeting with Hazrat Hamza Ghaus - it was built in the 19th century by Baba Nath Singh Shaheed - whose samadh is also located there. Giani Gian Singh wrote his 'Twareek Guru Khalsa' whilst staying at this Gurdwara. The Gurdwara has suffered not just at partition but also after the demolition of The Babri Masjid when parts of it were demolished by a mob seeking revenge. Picture 2 is of a Gurdwara in Abbotabad Picture 4 is of the Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Mansehra - now a library.

  11. Ignore him, simple. His illogical and self-contradictory statements have put even the muslims off to the point that they are telling their 'brothers' not to listen to him. If you don't believe me please see sura 3 chapter 2 verse no. 44 line no. 3

  12. polygamy was never an issue in the Sikh Panth, it only became an issue when the brits took over and introduced their own values, leading to people thinking that polygamy was sinful. They tried to same thing in African countries they took over but were met with more resistance, than they did in India. Whats more surprising is that this is not sanctioned in the Bible either. The early christians acording to the bible practised polygamy, and the Mormon Church in USA still to today. Polygamy is just weird more than anything to us, because we have for several generations been brought up thinking a person can only ever have one spouse.
