  2. With great pleasure, I announce bhai sukha singh ji is coming to malton gurdwara, Mississauga to do katha in english. The reason we picked up malton gurdwara is a) gurdwara leaning towards samparda's traditional gurmat teaching b) to get maximum exposure/impact to youths as katha he will be doing in english, would be on prime time broadcast Canada nation wide on ATN between 7 pm- 8 pm..!!! Exact dates will be conveyed to sangat at later date..!!

  3. The one thing that struck me about their JapJi Sahib katha is when they stated that everything that happens to us is a result of our own actions. They aren't random events designed to hurt us for the sake of punishment. The classic "You reap what you sow", cause-and-effect situation. I can't get this out of my head tbh, and if a person is experiencing a particularly difficult life whilst knowing you've behaved yourself (by and large, lol) in this current janam then you start wondering "I must have done some seriously dodgy things in the past" if this current life's events are any indication.

  4. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH! As a result of continous attacks happening on our Guru, the Khalsa has decided to do the following. (3 attacks have happened in the past week on Gurdwaras in India) At Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sahib Smethwick, Singhs will be organising a pehredaar jatha (security team) which will operate on Akhand Paaths to protect Guru Ji and the sangat as attacks are rising as Kaljug is coming closer to its heights. Any Sikh who wants to do seva on weekends at Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sahib Smethwick to protect Guru Ji should private message or post here. Any Sangat wanting Seva of other West Bromwich, Handsworth, Olbury or other local Gurdwara Sahib can contact here so we can sort out groups and shifts. ALL Gurdwara Sahibs across the world now should start off pehras especially when Akhand Paaths are on as we do not want to see any more beadbi. End OF. Time to defend Khalsa style. Tyaar bar Tyaar. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!

  5. Sorry I dont understand what you mean? I also believe Guroo was God, this is in Bani many times, I can quote it if you want. He knew he was God, there was no seperation or ego. You are sidetracking this thread to about who satguroo is. The original idea was to start fresh healthy debate about was Guroo born mukhth or was achieved in His life later in the river etc? this is not argument, it is intellectual debate section...to see what sadsangat thinks. not just one view is always right.

  6. Really impressive Kathawachak he has become. He needs to train more Sikhs in the west to become like him. We need more Singhs like this who can do Katha in the local language of the country.

  7. This point is true, I have also read about this. I also kind of agree here. But the point about yearning, I have never thought about before. My own view is that we are all waheguroo, but we do not know it. Guru Nanak Sahib knew it upon birth. He was without ego, but it is just like God playing an act out. the same way we act and move like puppets without realising the truth through our own ignorence which is gurparsad, so truly its down to God that he choses, so we cant do anything really. nothing in the end its our own choice. So yeh back to this point about yearning, this is interesting, but say if someone is sant, and they do simran etc, again maybe they are doing it so the followers wont go astray. Imagine if Guru Sahib ji came and preached but then themselves did not be seen meditating. then people will think this guys a fake etc. so all these acts was to ensure followers were to do as Guru said and did themselves. Sorry, my english is sometimes poor so i dont know if this makes sense above as I was born and brought up in India as a child. please forgive this slave of sangat.

  9. He changed my life. Especially the katha of Japji Sahib where he describes "Saram Khand". Something I remember is when he said that If a person can mend his surat, his mind, his wisdom then he can also mend his jeevan.

  10. My mom told me not to sleep in the way i've been sleeping because my feet are towards a certain direction. When someone dies, they put him in that way so his/her feet are in that direction. Im like whatever. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale said that Sikhism is not for weak hearted. The greatest gem that Guru Granth Sahib Ji gives us is that of shaheedi. I heard in a katha that there are about 82,000 different situations (I may be wrong with the # but its definitely over 70,000) that are considered by Hindus before they step out of their house. Situations such as: leaving at the right time for something; waiting if someone sneezes; if the cat crosses the path etc. Like there different mantras and chantings that i can't get my head across. Im not demeaning Hinduism. If thats their religion then its the best for them. However, if you're a Sikh then the "mool mantar" takes care of everything. Maybe you should tell your neighbor that if they're going to buy a house that is in a certain direction, then they should keep in their minds thousands of other things and doing things accordingly?

  11. Now that we've identified the problem, lets brainstorm and think about the solution. One thing that comes to mind is to make sure the future generations are spared the junk we grew up watching, and instill within them the true sense and spirit of GurSikhi. That includes the venomous caste system and the vicious inter-jathebandi "I am better than you are" championship.

  12. Bro, don't cut your beard. That's my advice but in the end it's up to you. Please don't be offended by what I say now but I have a point to make. What you said about wanting to wear your turban proudly, in my brutally honest opinion, what is the point? What is the point if you cut your beard? Maybe there is, if eventually you want to grow your beard again but otherwise it is a bit silly don't you think? I notice this quite often amongst our folk. Once I was wearing a patka (I have a full open flowing beard) and my relative remarked about her son (who is a trimmed beard turban wearer) that he is the good boy amongst us. She said because he is the one wearing a turban. Eerrm, hello, where's his dhari aunty ji? I have seen this mentality alot. It's like the turban is more important than kesh (dhari). They are completely missing the point of wearing the turban i.e., it is all about looking afer the kesh. Dhari comes into this too. The beard is what separates us from the women. It is a secondary sexual characteristic just like the mane of a lion. If you look after it and shape and comb it and use a bit of oil and what not, nothing can look better than a beard. It's your decision, I'm not going to jugde you for it.

  13. 1 Simple answer to this: Because Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave hukum to keep our Kesh !!! End of story for me really Your choice at the end of the day though !!! To get your answer you should really be asking and getting your answer from Shri Guru Granth Shaib Ji Maharaj ... Waheguru !!!!

  14. If you've taken Amrit you're forbidden to trim/color your beard. If being comfortable and acceptable is what you're looking for, for a second think of what else you said. You talked about the Shaheeds. Let me ask you, did they not want to lead comfortable lives? They could have easily given up on Sikhi and adopted some other faith forced on them and become acceptable and lead a comfortable life. What exactly makes you think that trimming your beard will make you look neat? That would leave not much difference between you and someone who shaves, because you would need to do that regularly and nature would keep on giving you another opportunity to return to your original form. Most people are just lazy to keep their hair and beard clean and find the easy way out by getting rid of them. Do we ever think about peeling our skin off just to avoid taking a shower daily? No, right? Same way why even dream of trimming your beard? This is a man-made Kaljugi opinion that a trimmed beard looks neat. Besides Sikhs, look around you at any other holy man from another faith. Most of them will have uncut beards (if not unshorn hair as well). As for "why cut nails", this has been discussed loads of times in the past, please run a search. Getting medical treatment (if needed) is important because this human body is a gift from Vaheguru ji. We have to take care of it, and this answers your question as well, we need to not only care for it but honor it as well which is why we don't trim our beard. Who are we to judge the way Vaheguru ji created us? Trimming beard is one's response to the Creator, that "Look, You didn't do a perfect job in making me, now my trimmer will do it". If I am not wrong, trimmed beard Sardars are not classified legally as "Sikhs", but I will need to check on that again. Lastly, as I say in all such posts, its your own life and your personal relation with your Guru. Do whatever you see as your priority. If your priority is Guru Sahib and Sikhi, you wouldn't have asked this question to begin with. If being "neat" in the eyes of the world, becoming "acceptable" to them and living a supposedly "comfortable" life is what you want, then fine, suit yourself and do what you deem as best. No one on this board will prosecute you just because you trimmed your beard, but you WILL be answerable to the One who created you.

  16. I think so. I love his katha although I have a lot to listen to. He's a diamond that many people cherish, but at the same time even more people don't realize. There was no politics or hidden agenda, just pure GurSikhi katha according to Gurmat.

  17. From past debates on this very site I've learned that from 1699 onwards entry to Sachkhand is only permissable by taking Khande Di Pauhl. Also, Sachkhand is not a concept found in other religions. What Christians call heaven, etc., are actually lower (compared to Sachkhand) planes of existence which are temporary homes; only Sachkhand is permanent. That's the gist of what's been discussed before but I've summarised it rather briefly. :biggrin2:
