  1. In some ways, I agree about the way things are done these days. A few years ago, some giani jis came to our house. We looked after them, fed them and in return they did ardaas for us. I was only a teen back then but even so it still reminded me of the old brahmin system. I used to think giani jis must be awesome doing all that paath and kirtan. Unfortunately, that ideal has since been shattered. We are our own gianis. We can do ardaas and talk to Paramatma ourselves. We should all be capable of doing our own kirtan and paaths.

  4. Wahe Guru ji ka Khalsa Wahe Guru ji ki Fateh I have put up various sources of Sikh history on my site: www.gsmann.com It also includes many of my articles that i have written over the many years: including information from my MA in Sri Dasam Granth Sahib from 2001 and many articles that appeared in journals. Recently i have put up the following: 1) British and the Sikhs: the Akali Nihangs in 3 parts(more to come) 2) Rare document on the Treaty between the Lahore government and the British( Koh-i-noor and Duleep Singh) 3) A article on the history of Takht Patna Sahib from 2008. Forthcoming various rare material on Sikh and Punjab history including never seen before Sikh manuscripts and how the British broke down the Sikh Religion with missionaries. I will not be able to answer every question on the documents that i have posted due to time constraints but hopefully this information can help in understanding our religion better. 5. The kirpan should be a certain size, what can a 3-inch Kirpan do in a life and death situation. As well as a spiritual it has a physical purpose. All Sikhs are sants and sipaihs.

  6. When the Akaal Takhat was first constructed it was built by the hands of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Baba Buddha Ji and Bhai Gurdas Ji. It was in the shape of a Tharra or platform and once it was complete it was suitably decorated and strewn with flowers. Baba Buddha Ji and Bhai Gurdas Ji came over to Guru Sahib Ji and said that now that the Takhat was complete it would be fitting if Guru Ji took their rightful place upon it. Guru Ji walked over and sat down on the floor next to the Takhat. Then Akaal Purkh spoke to Guru Ji “Why do you not sit on this Takhat that you have prepared?” Guru Ji said in all humility “ O’Lord, this is the Akaal Takhat and has been prepared in Your name, how can I sit upon it?” “There is no difference between you and Me” AkaalPurkh replied ”We are one and the same” Upon hearing this Guru Ji Mutha take’d and stepped upon the Takhat and sat down to the great delight of all the Sikhs present.

  7. if you take haldhi, make sure it's pure. the haldhi that's in open bins at grocery stores has some sort of chemical added to it. we can tell b/c the colour of pure haldhi is a beautiful deep orange and it also doesn't taste bad. the stuff in the bins tastes horrific and has an off colour. you can get pure haldhi, ground up from the roots right in front of your eyes in india. highly recommended.

  8. It’s an interesting thought and pretty relative to the situation today but lets not fall into trap of architecting and promoting a stereotype of the “priests”, because let’s face it...as the supposed amritdhari Gursikhs, we don’t seem to commit to our Gurdwaras. Most of us will spend all our lives sitting on the sidelines watching the tamsha. If all the amritdhari’s collectively stepped into their local Gurdwara’s daily running then the system would change overnight. There’s more to the Gurdwaras than a monthly rehansabhai, there are 29 other days in the month which the amritdharis’ need to commit to. If that’s not going to happen, then we must accept the need for these mechanical “priests”.

  9. Why put the mechanical "priests" of the Gurdwaras down when no one really in the sangat seems to commit to doing the amrit vela parkash, asa di vaar, making the degh etc. It's all good and well putting the Granthi's down but why don't the "true" Gursikh alternatives then take the lead in the Gurdwaras...

  11. A man strapped explosives to his body and ended not only his own life but also the chief minister of Panjab, Beanta in 1995. This human bomb was called Dilavar Singh, at the time a serving officer in Panjab Police. Can we celebrate such an action? Is this not the type of terrorism that the western world is trying to exterminate? Or is there something much deeper and profound in what Dilavar Singh done? For the Sikh community, he has been honoured as the 'Pride of a Nation', for India he represents the complete opposite. Watch to make up your own mind...

  12. Taking things out of contect is not good, one line quotes need to be seen in the context that they were written in. What I've learnt is do not knock any faith, keep to your own path, give your hand to your guru, eyes closed and just keep walkin' :wink2:

  15. mate, when you get into married life, you will realise that having a wife who is obedient, and uplifts you spiritually, and helps you to develop, is better than having an attractive wife who does none of these things. Good looks, or in UK as we say, fit birds, are part of maya. they are just a temporary illusion to distract you from your ultimate goal. Fit birds are usually lose their looks in their mid 30s anyway. Learn to live with Bhana.
