  2. -Just learn to shut off from the surroundings. -Go in and pay attention only to what you hear on the loud speaker...... whether it's kirtan, katha or the bani being read. -Keep your eyes down and try not to look around at others and avoid direct eye contact to someone that may be distracting....better still,,try to avoid direct eye contact with anyone. -Make it clear to yourself that the direct eye contact you will make will be after you take your shoe/socks off and walk towards the Guru Saroop in the darbar. - once you matha tek, then go sit towards front and towards the far right of where men are sitting so that you don't smell or feel the presence of any women walking past. - Avoid paying attention to any noise behind you and towards your left,...and keep your full dhian towards Guru saroop and main stage. When you are looking around and taking notice of the way girls/women may be dressed... then you are simply polluting your own purity by firstly looking, judging and making conclusions about others.....................this does not do your sikhi any favours at all ! This is what I do mostly and hardly ever feel that someone has sanctified my saas from the satguru.

  3. Apologies, i was looking for a topic which discussed ways of doing parchar in gurdwaras but couldnt find one, so have started this. Here are some photos from our local gurdwara, on how we can do parchar in a non-invasive way. We have had a lot of people use this literature stand. We basically made it ourselves, it cost us about £100 quid, cos the committee wouldnt pay for a new one, which would have cost about £250 (this was in 2005-ish). The response has been amazing, and lot of literature is being taken. We have 37 facings on this stand, although we have over 280 articles with a very wide range of subjects. Below, this is a new venture, we were lucky in that these exhibition boards were being discarded, as some offices were be cleared out, and we managed to get these off them for free. They can be purchased in the UK for about £70 ish pounds. We have been preparing an exhibition on monthly historical events that arent well known to younger Sikhs (i know, I know, some of you are thinking, "well that would be most things...)" and using the month as the theme to show them. In March, we did "The Rawalpindi progrom against Sikhs, in 1947". In April, we did "The annexation of the Lahore Kingdom". In May we are going to do, "The Smaller Holocaust". If anybody wishes to start these in their local Gurdwaras, then as long as you get the hardware, we can send you the literature to use electronically. If you are lucky and your committee is helpful in buying new stands/boards etc, then that is great. Show them these photos, and see what they think.

  4. ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਿਹ New Gandhi statue unveiled in London's Parliament Square The British prime minister, David Cameron, and India’s finance minister, Arun Jaitley, were joined on Saturday by Gandhi’s grandson, the former governor of West Bengal, Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi, and Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan for the inauguration ceremony. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/14/new-gandhi-statue-unveiled-in-londons-parliament-square During Sikh New Year's day, David Cameron participated in insulting Sikhs by hosting Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, who is alleged to have incited racial hatred and genocide against Sikhs, for the inauguration ceremony. A leading German historian said Mahatma Gandhi was "one of the greatest friends of Nazi Germany" because the Indian activist and the Third Reich shared a shared a common enemy in Britain. Gandhi's quote on the Children Of Israel "the Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher's knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs." Gandhi insisted on referring to Sikhs as "hindus" and said "I read your Granth Sahib. But I do not do so to please you. Nor shall I seek your permission to do so. But the Guru has not said anywhere that you must grow your beards, carry kirpans (swords) and so on". Gandhi attacked Gurmukhi. In a letter to a friend, Amrit Kaur, he wrote, "I wish you would persuade enlightened Sikhs to take the Devnagri script in the place of the Gurmukhi". The UK government aided India in planning Sikh genocide during 1984.

  6. After many months of reading articles on this forum i had to join and put some views across. First...... I'm not a scholar and i don't preach what is good and what is bad. I don't judge sikh girls and have very strong views on how sikhs should respect each other. Sikh marrying a muslim in a Gudwara is not a problem, as long as its through their own free will and choice. I applaud the muslim girl who had the spirit and fight of an APNI. WELCOME to enlightenment and a life of true bhangra! My hypocritical side would challenge this if it was an APNI girl. ( sorry, not that modern) Over the next few months i will join in these discussions and try and bring in some plain talking honesty to the forum. I don't judge, criticise,or put down apni girls just because they have married x or done y, i look for the real reason, the deeper reason. As for those who are into their religion, "the boxed walls which were built to hold the ultimate believers................ who gave their lives without compramise.........., cracks are appearing in the WALL.............!

  7. That's what I thought, brother. What a wonderful world it will be when people decide to keep rehat because of love for that way of life and not because of shady deals and inducements for escaping hell and whatnot.

  8. Nurses wanted for Naam Clinic Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | Asia Samachar | 16 Mar 2015 Naam Clinic is looking for nurses. Two volunteer nurses have so far signed up for the free clinic in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur town powered by a group of Sikh medical personnel. We are okay with doctors at the moment, but we desperately need more nurses, Dr Rupinder Singh, one of the vounteer doctors at the clinic, told Asia Samachar. Nurses play an important role. The clinic, open on Sundays from April 4 onwards, is located at Wisma Tatt Khalsa, a multipurpose complex under Gurdwara Sahib Tatt Khalsa Diwan, at Jalan Raja Along. Operating hours are from 8am-12noon and 2pm-6pm. A project under Naam Association Malaysia (Pertubuhan Kebajikan Naam Malaysia), the clinic has attracted some 20 doctors who will take turns to run the clinic open to people of all races and religions. Dr Rupinder and his team were met at the Hola Mahalla games organised by the Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday (15 Mar 2015). The medical personnel, bearing the Naam Medic attire, provided medical assistance during the futsal and badminton games. 9. You should go for a change in routine. Visit Gurdwara early on Sunday, attend morning Diwaan instead of evening. I am sure you will find Sangat whose more into Gurbani & Seva rather than gossip n fashion. If you are looking for peace go on weekdays when there is low attendance. 11. If you sit right at the front, as close to Guru Sahib as possible, you wont be able to see or hear what others are doing. But yes, it takes a strong mind to ignore the distractions and concentrate on what youre there for.

  12. In some Gurdware you will find instant peace like a weight being lifted upon your shoulders upon entering and in others the mind simply wavers no matter how hard we try to concentrate. I cant quite place my finger on why, but I feel its to do with the number of years bhagti, kirtan and paat has been performed at the Gurdwara and by whom. The old Havelock Road Gurdwara, was like Sachkhand and the feelings and experiences cannot be compared to the new building. It had the added benefit of being visited by many Sant Mahapursh before it was razed to pave way for the hotel like building that stands in its place. I too find it annoying when people are talking, yapping away on their phones or otherwise during a vaak, ardas, kirtan and so on and always maintained committees should purchase kit that blocks phone signals within the darbar hall. In the olden days, the bajurags who were respected used to put younger members of sangat in place and kids would regularly be told off and occasionally slapped for misbehaving. Who listens these days, people have too much ego and shoot back rudely. Buildings are used as social clubs. Folk sit in the hall for 5 mins if they can stretch to that and run to the langar hall not having learnt a thing.

  13. Starstriker singhs have started protesting outside gurdwaras against this. The girls are chasing the lust BigTime and parents turn a blind eye at least shes married and gone...thats what they want... As for guys. Many sikh boys get married in mixed marriages but dont seem strong to convert the women...again lust over faith and religion.

  14. Waheguru Ji ka khalsa waheguru Ji ki. I have asked the sangat to go and talk outside. The problem is that the people are punjabi and not gursikhs they think they know better. Go in the mornings it is much quieter.
