  1. Gurbani tells us that nothing is permanent, especially earth, hell, heavens, paradise etc. The permanent realms, not sure about SARAM KHAND, but I know that KARAM KHAND AND SAACHKHAND ARE UNMOVING, FOREVER PERMANENT. God has created and destroyed many other universes, this is just another created one that will also be destroyed by God.
  2. duz this mean that all non sikhs since the time of birth have never had naam? True - why is it that sikhs are able to break their amrit by committing bujjar kuhrret or why when sikhs get ridhi sidhi, and display it in ego showing off, lose all their spirituality or when we jap so much naam, but then we indulge in so much maya we lose that naam we japped. Only when Naam finds and place in the heart and mind of the sikh does it becomes theirs. Otherwise, by indulging in maya -loving maya- we are cheating Naam. Naam knows what we are really interested in. Naam thinks as well, it is GOD HIMSELF. TO EVERYONE ELSE: guramukh jinee naam n paaeiaa || Those who have not become Gurmukh, and who have not found the Naam, the Name of the Lord the line is refering to SATGURU Ji, the giver of naam. So, it is saying: those who have not obtained the naam...
  3. Fateh to you too, bhai sahib ji!!

    VAHEGUROOO!!

  4. I agree school, college and university - all of it is crap and ones life goes to waste thinking that life is about that, not taking religious life seriously.

  5. papi v, made up some any random example for ego, hahahaha
  6. 'Harbhajan Singh Yogi - "One who recites Chaupai without the Arril lives in pain and unhappiness." (Furmaan Khalsa p.235)' *QC edited* whats 'Arril', correct the spelling mistake please.
  7. This should clear your doubts, a // from Bhai Gurdas ji who is considered a saint so he would know the truth, so us blind fools should not doubt the spiritually awakened saint: Vaar 1 Pauri 32 At Mecca Donning blue attire then Baba Nanak went to Mecca. He held staff in his hand, pressed a book under his armpit, caught hold of a metal pot and mattress. Now he sat in a mosque where the pilgrms (hajis) had gathered. When Baba (Nanak) slept in the night spreading his legs towards the alcove of mosque at Kaba, the qazi named Jivan kicked him and asked who was this infidel enacting blasphemy. Why this sinner is sleeping his legs spread towards God, Khuda. Catching hold of the legs he lynched (Baba Nanak) and lo and behold the miracle, the whole of Mecca seemed to be revolving. All got surprised and they all bowed.
  8. The story is not a metaphor, but real life events of what occured in Treta Yug. Raja Janak was the father of Sita, if that is what you mean by metaphor. If not, there is also a teaching here, as the metaphors of the sword and cup of oil represent our Gurbani teachings; two major factors to overcome in order to enter Saachkhand. The sword represents DEATH: ਮੁਇਆ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤਿਤੁ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ To reach your True Home after you die, you must conquer death while you are still alive. Gurbani constantly tells us to remember death first, and then HOPE and EGO which was the cup of oil. It also represented desires of Maya: ਪਹਿਲਾ ਮਰਣੁ ਕਬੂਲਿ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਛਡਿ ਆਸ ॥ First, accept death, and give up any hope of life. Become the dust of the feet of all, and then, you may come to me. ||1|| Saint Sukdev ji passed all tests mentioned in the gurbani above; first he became the dust of the feet of all by humbly accepting Raja Janak as his teacher. The second was accepting the reality of death to be there watching us and waiting for us to make that mistake, that sin so that we become weak and helpless being under his power. The third is hope; this hope and desire is derived from EGO and Maya. If he let this ego win by falling for Maya he would have lost his goodness and spirituality (naam, amrit) which represents the drop of oil from the cup, as when that happens Death has power over us. EGO, DEATH, DESIRE and MAYA are our enemies, our aim is not to let them win, because when we win our mind becomes firm and balanced, as we become awake and aware, living in reality. In this way, we cross the worldly ocean easily, uneffected by Maya; what our senses desire. If anyone does not agree please share the knowledge you have on this.
  9. The reason that we do lava is because, yes, it applies to our life; before we reach saachkhand and become one with God those things should happen in steps. Also, commanding us as sikhs on how to have God's Darshan. For example, the bairaag plays an essential part pushing us to love God to the max, we develop this bairaag from constantly reading Gurbani, JAPING NAAM and keeping rehit. Now, we do lava because the soul of the man and female are becoming one too. In this way, the true marriage is being set as the couple will help each other get to God and become one with him more quicker then would have if not married. This life of a Sikh has nothing to do with marriage with humans but the MARRIAGE WITH GOD. The rehit and hukam given by guru ji helps our Naam meditation. read this: http://gurdwaramidhudson.org/laavan.html
  10. To Topic stater: Don't make me laugh, of course you can be attached to SAACKHAND. As long as it will bring closer to GOD!! You're taking attachment in the wrong way. ASK this question on tapoban.org, you'll get a decent answer from mature, knowledgeable sikhs.

He's just asking a question, nothing wrong with that. To the topic starter: There is HUGE difference between Guru Ji and Mohammed; Guru ji merged with God and became one with him, making him the same as God, whereas Mohammed didn't. Baba Harnaam Singh Ji while in samadhi travelled to the heavens and met Mohammed who told him that Guru nanak dev ji has achieved something that no ever has achieved before, and his sikhs should take advantage of that. Baba Ji also met Jesus Christ there. Gurbani also mentions of there being countless mohammeds, vishnus, shivas etc, and that there is only one Guru. This Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, plays the same role he did on this earth on others too. However, the countless prophets and hindu gods are just created again. Also, the Gurbani from Guru Granth Sahib Ji is directly from God whereas the other numerous holy books are not. Finally, Dasam Granth says in there that Mohammed was sent onto earth to establish religion but he ended up teaching his own thing due to his Ego. He was also meant to start the practice of keeping the hair but he didn't. Then it goes on to saying that the same happened with others that were sent to teach the true religion. Because non did, God sent Guru Ji down, who established the true dharama, Sikhi. Hope that helped.
  12. God gives his true devotees true honor. All they do is put their reliance in God and in no one else. This is how they love him, and so in return God helps and honors them; as they recognise him he recognises them, hence recognising our needs. For example, when Harnaakash was arguing with Bhagat Prahlaad due to Prahlaad worshiping and reciting God's name, Harnaakash's enemy. Harnakash asked Prahlaad while taking out his sword preparing to kill his own son: "where is your god now", Prahlaad answered:"The Life of the World, the Great Giver, is my Help and Support in the end. Wherever I look, I see Him permeating and prevailing." In that instant, God came onto earth tearing down a pillar and appeared as NARSINGH (man-lion), and he then tore harnaakash with his nails, killing him - ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਜਨ ਆਏ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥ Slave Prahlaad sought Your Sanctuary, and You saved his honor. God honors us because we honor him. The Creation honors the Creator. Similarly, Bhagat naam Dev ji was honored by God; he was kicked out of the temple due to his caste but God made the brahmins bow down before him making a miracle occur, the temple turning towards his way.
  13. 'is that a rebirth again and restarting wit a clean slate???' Only once you jap naam and erase that sin are you forgiven. Otherwise, you are accountable for this sin at dharma rai's court. Sin and Naam go with us to the hereafter, when we leave our body. Amrit is just the first step. Don't worry japping naam even once a million sins are erased all in one go. After amrit maybe you could also do ardaas asking him to protect you from committing the sin again.
  14. Why should we fight for Khalistan, when we are not a Khalsa ourselves. First you have to have Raj over ourselves and then everything else just follows. Otherwise, we don't deserve it. Khalsa Raj is for saints not sinners. Once we become Khalsa then Guru Ji will naturally give us khalsa raj. The land of Khalsa Raj will be a holy land, for the holy not any random sikhs. Also, the reason for khalsa raj won't be for our worldly reasons but for spiritual reasons not known to us. We have no freedom, we are being controlled by our mind; we constantly listen and follow it. Until we've japped so much Naam and erased the filth of the mind, caged the five demons and begin to listen to the soul, then we have done RAJ, THE TRUE RAJ, ON THE TRUE BATTLEFIELD! Everything else is just temporary and a dream that will pass, and then we'll be dead. OR we can live by living in REALITY, not ILLUSION. The reality is attaching ourselves to Vaheguru Ji's feet. Guru Ji's teachings is all that matters.
  15. with all due respect, if it were that easy to leave maya behind, everyone would leave for the jungles. Guru sahib didn't say don't leave for jungles, he said, you left your houses, stayed in jungles and even then you coudln't escape from maya. so its pointless to leave your house n stay in jungles. in guru nanak's house, both sanyasi and gristhi are parvaan, although bhai sahib gurdaas jee has give more praise to a gristhi life. the point is we have to get our minds away from maya, if we can do that, then no matter where we live, in a jungle or as a gristhi, its parvaan. when i said "everything came from maya", i was talking about the creation, i.e. all shapes. only waheguru is without maya, ANEEL. and ofcourse waheguru has no shape, no akaaar to answer no one's question: Maya isn't one of the 5, it actually creates the 5, maya is above these 5 living a gristhi life is nothing without being a sanyasi. bhai sahib randhir singh ji describes the two types of sikhs in his books, the highest sikh is the one with a divine destiny who has a gristhi life but lives as a renunciate in that life - a hermit: ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਚੂਕੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥ The renunciates remain absorbed in devotional worship to the Lord; they are rid of emotional attachment and desire. By being a renunciate one is being detached from attachment and desire. Guru Ji's Sikhs are inside sanyasis, meaning girsti jeevan sanyasis, the outside sanyasis are buddhas, siddhas etc. There is no difference between gristhi jeevan and sanyasi, you can't really seperate them, otherwise if you do the life of a gristhi jeevan is useless, as the life is led in Maya.
  16. 'infact everything came from maya' Maya comes on earth in the form of pleasure. Thats all Maya is, pleasure. This pleasure has to be worldly pleasure, not the pleasure derived from Naam. This is why siddhas, buddhas and naths left society and lived as hermits in the forest/jungles/mountains; they did this to leave maya. But Guru nanak dev ji wants us to be inside sannyasas, not outside sannyasas like bhagat dhroo, but instead like Raja Janak.
  17. ok, here it is: in the shabad the worst of the worst evils have been highlighted here, the ones that are causing the worst sin and further seperating us from God. So, I think gurbani took the sexual desire part of maya out to highlight the worst evils, not putting them in groups like the five demons gurbani mentions.
  18. hmm, interesting. But Maya is the one who provokes the sexual desire. She isn't everything in the world, as it seems you are trying to say. heres a question, is maya the spoon we use to eat, no we couldn't say that because we can't get attached to it or love it, but you could say that for what it is used for, which is food. Once we attach, love and take pleasure from food we are indulging in Maya. Maya basically comes in the form of pleasure. Sexual desire needs Maya, which creates a form or image for us, to provoke its needs. We all have sexual desire, but Maya entices it. Only Naam can completely destroy sexual desire, making maya have no effect on you. someone can elaborate on this, to clarify it further.
  19. this shabads cool. Guru Ji is saying here that sexual desire, anger, maya and jealousy have corrupted all. In our ego 'I', we say we did this and we did that through the blindness of the four evils mentioned above. For example, we become jealous of others because we see them with something we don't have, this could be a high avastha or anything. In this case, we see differences in ourselves and in others, which is illusion, as we don't see God; only God exists. We are not living in Hukam as we say he has that but 'I' don't have that - God's Hukam prevails. Jeolousy plays on our EGO big time, as it is comes directly from our filthy mind that only wants good for ourselves and not for others. Finally, the shabad tells us that Naam has to be japped in order for us to erase this wicked 'I', this ego: parreeai guneeai naam sabh suneeai anabho bhaao n dharasai || They read and reflect upon all the Names of God; they listen, but they do not see the Lord, the embodiment of love and intuition. lohaa ka(n)chan hiran hoe kaisae jo paarasehi n parasai ||1|| How can iron be transformed into gold, unless it touches the Philosopher's Stone? ||1|| The second line, above, tells us to jap naam continuously and constantly forever, until we earn the wealth of Naam and naam finds a place in our heart. Otherwise we won't be transformed in an angelic being. I think that is what it means by being transformed into GOLD. thanks for putting the shabad up. it really helped!
  20. What the hell do they know about what is holy and what isn't. These were the idiots that slaughtered hundreds of sikhs and raped sikh women. Sant jarnial singh ji sacificed his life for truth and dharma, and for the unholy act commited by the nirankaris, hindus and the government in 1978. We can put Sant Jis picture up wherever we like!
  21. What do you expect in kaliyug? Everything to get better and brighter. Kaliyug is meant to get worse, as it says in Dasam Granth. If we want to be prepared for the worse; to do shaheedi when the times come. Then we carry on with our physical training, martial training etc. Also, attach ourselves to the bigger picture; see beyoud ourselves, which is by japping naam, a link to the ultimate reality God and Guru Ji. Because when we do that Guru Ji will tell us what we need to do. Just like Shaheed Bhai Fauja Singh and Shaheed Bhai Avtar Singh Ji knew that they would have to do shaheedi before the time came in 1978. These Gursikhs knew this because they connected themselves with a higher power - this is how we prepare ourselves, by communicating with the higher power; the language we speak in with the higher power is NAAM. Otherwise we're just insects; we won't be heard or be strong enough when the time comes.
  22. that was really interesting. where did you get this story from? is sukadev ji's story in Guru Granth Sahib Ji, bhai gurdas' vara or did you get it from somewhere else?
  23. I read this on tapoban.org. It tells the truth, though, that there is no difference between God and his name. It makes sense. Also, Bhagat Ramanand was a great bhagat.
  24. You should be careful, I might actually call you Barbie Warrior. Out of curiosity, do you think Demonic sounds manly? Nah, not really manly, it reflects on my evil nature. I have an interest in demons, devils, ghosts etc.
  25. that was Great, Bebi Nanaki was an amazing Gursikh. Her SEVA WAS THE GREATEST! Because of her Guru Nanak Dev Ji fullfiled his mission.
