  7. http://www.panthic.org/news/131/ARTICLE/1981/2005-11-13.html Guru Ghars - A Sorry State Sunday 13th November, 2005 Gurmukh Singh - Panthic Weekly Columnist Everyday in our daily Ardaas (prayer) we ask: “O immortal Waheguru, the constant helper of His own Sikh Nation, please give the gift of freely visiting and managing without restrictions Gurdwara Nankana Sahib and other Gurdwaré and Guru's places from which the Khalsa has been deprived.” How sad is it that today the Sikh nation’s Gurdwaré are managed by drunkards, alcoholics, non-Amritdharis, Kuree-maars (murderers of their daughters), and those who would sell Sikhi for a shelling in order to keep their comfortable seat in power. This is the state of us today. We pray that the Khalsa may freely manage the Gurdwaré, however instead those who don’t believe in the Khalsa, those that don’t respect the Khalsa or uphold the Khalsa’s way of life are managing our Guru Ghars. What a sorry state of affairs! Recently Panthic Weekly has exposed and had coverage on various Gurdwaras in the UK. Ramgarhia Gurdwara Leeds, Leamington & Warwick Gurdwara Sahib, Ramgharia Gurdwara Neville Road in East London etc. News of beadbi here, and more beadbi keeps appearing in the news. Why? The places which should have been a place of education, place of wisdom and a place for the Guru’s mat (teachings) to be exalted, have become places of harbouring apathy and providing services for drunkards, and people who have little or no interest in Gurmat. Why? The places which should have been a place of inspiring youngsters, providing positive role models, and demonstrating to the wider public what the Sikh faith is all about, have become places which provide our youngsters with the role models who go to the pub on Saturday night (or in some cases using Gurdwara owned facilities) who get drunk out of their head, then on Sunday morning they come with a hang over to the Gurdwara and do speeches on the Gurdwara stage and sometimes do Shabad Kirtan on the stage. What hypocrisy! Is it of any wonder why members of the wider public hold the view that “Sikhs like their drink.” Time after time, the media and news is giving us alarming messages of alcoholism in society, alcohol abuse amongst youngsters and a rise in alcohol relate crimes. Furthermore, infidelity and teenage pregnancies are also linked to alcohol and drunkardness. What have our Gurdwaré done to help society with this problem? How have our Gurdwaré shared the wisdom of Guru Nanak Ji with the public to heal the ills of society? Have our Gurdwaré provided an example to society of true upstanding character, which all of society can highly regard and respect, and therefore, look up to for inspiration and hope? O Khalsa Ji, the answer is ‘no!’ Headlines of alcohol and drinking parties have been continuously linked to various UK Gurdwaras. What influence are we to have on society, when our own people, who we expected to lead the community and manage our Gurdwaré, are themselves indulging in anti-Gurmat activities and living a lifestyle contrary to what the Khalsa and Gurmat stands for? How can a non-Amritdhari ‘President’ of the Gurdwara inspire others to take Amrit and give their head to the Guru and follow Gurmat, when he himself has not taken Amrit and declared his allegiance to the Guru Granth & Guru Panth? How can a non-Amritdhari Gurdwara Committee member who drinks alcohol, shaves and cuts his Kesh promote Gurmat in the Gurdwara to our youngsters? Dear Khalsa Ji, we must stop, reflect and learn from our history and what our Guru’s have taught us. What is happening in some Gurdwaré in the UK is not far from what Massar Rangar and the Mahant before the Singh Sabha Movement practiced in Gurdwaré in India. There is no compromise with alcohol in Sikhi. There is no compromise to promoting or harbouring any apathy towards those who indulge in such behaviour, which is contrary to Gurmat. However, we hear of those Gurdwaré guilty of beadbi of Gurmat shouting, “We are providing a service for the community!”, “We are not promoting alcohol, we are merely letting people rent out a hall.” Have those people listened to their Aatma (soul)? O mind, if you had listened to your conscious speak to you, you would not have justified drinking alcohol and ruining and losing your intellect, self-respect and destroying the health of your body. O mind, if you had listen to Guru, then you would not be providing services for drunkards to become drunk, and for people to indulge in vulgar music and dance like ghosts to lyrics, which promote men to entice and seduce women, entice men to drink alcohol, be merry, and promote lust. The Gurdwara was a place where one could go to control and restrict our ego, lust, greed, attachment and anger. However, today we have allowed parties to take place in halls paid with the money of the Guru’s golak, which fires up people’s lust, ego, anger, greed and attachment through listening to vile music, drinking alcohol endlessly and losing awareness of one’s surrounding. O Khalsa let’s ask ourselves the question - ‘where have we ended up?’ The Sangat need to unite and say “no!” to the Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees which are not fulfilling their role to inspire people towards Gurmat. The Sangat need to unite and say “no!” to the Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees which are like modern Mahants and allow alcohol and tobacco to be consumed on properties paid and managed by the Gurdwara Sahib. The Sangat need to unite and say “no!” to the Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees which have sold their principles and their Sikhi so cheaply by allowing Guru Ji’s Saroops to Hotels, Clubs and Banqueting Halls, and overlooked the Rehat of Guru Ji, which he said he loved more than a Sikh. Recognise your duty to serve the Guru Granth & Guru Panth, and be a Panthic activist. Together we can a make a difference for the better. Please contact Panthic Weekly if you have come across any Gurdwara which is violating Gurmat by emailing editors@panthic.org. Panthic Weekly will do its utmost best to expose to the Sangat any Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which disregards Gurmat Maryada and allows Sikh principles to be compromised for monetary or personal gain. Gurmukh Singh can be reached at gurmukh.singh@panthic.org
  8. Alert the Respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Campaign (R4G). They have an ID on this forum and they also have a website...which I don't have the link handy right now at this mint...have a class pretty soon.
  9. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa. Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. It's funny how "punjabi" people do things against "Sikhism", but yet still call themselves sikhs; and also how they don't try to become better sikhs by trying hard. They instead say that God isn't helping them. Here are just some things I think about each day. It's funny how some parents want to see their children to be respectful... but yet don't show respect for others...including their own kids. It's funny how some parents don't let their kids cut their hair... but yet cut it themselves. It's funny how some parents refer to Gurbaani so much when it's the only way to make their kids listen... but then when their kids tell the parents that they are wrong for cutting hair (and other stuff aginst sikhi), the parents say "That's a different story.". It's funny how some parents want their kids to grow up knowing about sikhi... but then when their kids question them in sense to get their parents to realize reality, they say "I know what's right and wrong."(reality meaning that the parents didn't/ dont't do many things according to the teachings of the Gurus, but are telling their children to follow the Gurus) It's funny how some parents take their kids to the Gurudwara... but just let their sons play around, yelling, jumping, swearing even, while in Guru jis home. (Making their daughter go and find her brother(s) and then get mad at the her because she couldn't find them and/or bring them when they wanted....i've seen this happen too many times.) It's funny how people can spend hours and hours partying away, drinking, yelling like crazy, dancing like crazy... but yet still say that sitting in the Gurudwara is too hard. They are aware of the fact that the Gurudwara is a place of peace and harmony (without any worries)...but yet still say this. It's funny how people can spend their money on things that aren't needed at all... but then say that they don't have enough money to give daswand. (10% income) It's funny how some people think that its ok to smoke and party and drink with Guru jis Khanda around their necks... while it seems to us as if they are trying to spread the meaning of "Sikhi Rocks!". It's funny how people recite "Dhan hai Dhan hai Dhan hai. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Dhan hai!"... but yet don't follow even 30% of what Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji asks us to do. It's funny how people know that they have to follow the law of their country (examples: drive at correct speed, don't drink and drive, obeying traffic lights, paying bills, getting up early to go to work ..etc...you get my point, i hope) in order to survive and/or not get into trouble (jail, fees, etc.)... but yet don't follow our Guru ji's teachings... Shouldn't they know that there are you certain punishments for disobeying our Guru ji? It's funny how people won't go to the Gurudwara just because it would be raining... but when goning to a party, the say "If we don't go, the people will get mad that we didn't make it," My dear brothers and sisters! There are going to be more than enough people at the party. Ask yourselves... How much of a difference will your presence/absence make at the party? What will you do at the party that will in some way help out the people there? Why not just go to the Gurudwara and do sewa, where you know that you have done something worth while for others? Why go in a place where you're going to see drunk people punching the daylights out of each other and getting hurt? What will you gain out of that? It's funny how some parents will put their children in Karate at the Gurudwara... but yet don't even think about putting their children in Gatka, which our beloved Sikh brothers and sisters had used in the battles. It's funny how some Amrit-Dharis don't respect other Amrit-Dharis and ignore them. (You know who you are.) Aren't we all brothers and sisters? It's funny how people talk about others in such ill mannered ways... when they don't even know their own sins. It's funny how some people think it's cool to "fit in" into society to be "normal"... when they should know that nothing is wrong with who they are from inside. My dear sisters and brothers! "Normal" is a word a lot of people use for other people. Just ask yourselves... What is the deffinition for a "normal preson"? It's funny how people say that Punjabi culture gets us closer to Guru ji... hmm....Personaly, I don't think that's true. Think about it! Look at how many things Punjabi culture takes us AWAY from Sikhi. examlpes: 1. Girls have no say. 2. Culture changes each day, so people would want Sikhi to change too. 3. Girls don't get lori... I don't even know why people celebrate it...I think there's no reason for it. A boy is born. Big whoop! 4. Girls don't get to go to the Kabadi tournaments, but we can watch them on TV... I don't see anything wrong with going there and watching it. Do you? 5. People strictly believe in the caste system, and then say wrong things about Gurbaani just because of what they believe. It's funny how people agree to so many things they learn from Gurbaani... but yet don't act upon any of it. All of this could be funny for us now..............but when you really think about it; You'll realize that it's so disappointing, and that there's really nothing to laugh about. It's all to frown upon. It's sad how our leaders (Gurus) and brothers and sisters gave up their lives to keep Sikhi alive... BUT... The people in our society today don't stop to respect that and realize that what the Sikhs had gone through and done, was for us, the people of today. They were/are our sisters and brothers who gave/give up so much... and for who? For us! Us; who can't get up in the morning to recite the name of the Lord. Us; who can't spend even 5% of the day towards doing things that Guru ji wants us to do. It's sad how people forget the Lords name when not in need... but when something is needed, they don't stop asking for things. It's sad how we give nothing to Guru ji; no time, no respect, no devotion, nothing!... but we ask for so much; cars, houses, ...you get my point...... It's funny how I'm sitting here typing, when I can be reciting the name of the Lord with no worries at all. .........Or is that sad??? I have not stated anything to hurt someone or some people in particular. I just stated what I feel is true. And please don't think that I believe that non-Amrit-Dhairs are rude or anything...thats not what I meant. We all have certain ways of life. And I'm aware of the fact that so many are getting ready to become Gursikhs. And I hope you all could just know how much Anand there is becoming a true Gursikh. I know that im not anyone to point fingers at people cuz im paapi myself...but really....think about please! Jaago Pyaario! Jaago! Peace Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa. Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Damanpreet Kaur
  10. hmmm....heres all the things i do WRONG: 1/ We have dinner at 8:30pm.....first reason is that my mom is slow with getting dinner ready  , and second reason my classes this semester are in the evening sorta so I dont' get home till 7:30 at the earliest. 2/I have glow in the dark stars on my ceiling. I'll be awake so long that stars stop glowing. I remember few times I even turned my light on for a few seconds to energize the stars back into glowing :umm: 3/ If I read a book from around 9ish for a few hours then my eyes get tired and I get sleepy...so I'll hit the bed at 1 or 2am. But rgiht now I have no book to read... 4/ I usually study or do some homework after dinner. So that starts at 9:30 till 12:30 am at maximum...so yeh I sleep really late! 5/ Some ideas work for me but after I've tried it up to 3 times then it doesn't work anymore :umm: ...the effect wears off and I lose my focus.
  11. I can seriously NEVER fall asleep . I'll get in bed and for the next 3 or 4 hours I'll be thinking about all this crapp and dumb stuff: stuff I did that day, stuff I thought about that day, stuff I said that day, and other stress factors about life like marriage  .....and so my brain won't fricken SHUT UP and go to sleep :umm: @ . Its so hard to clear my mind so it relaxes. It keeps on thinking about stuff repeatedly. Once in a while I don't fall asleep until 6AM and I usually get up at 7AM (yeh...me not amritdhari, not a nitnemi person :umm: ). so i need help, need your suggestions on what I should do. I had ppl tell me to do paath before sleeping, do simran, drink warm milk before sleeping, do exercise during the day.......is there anything else someone has tried that worked for them? I did good the first 2 days when I tried some of this then on the third day I lost concentration on it and I"m back to same old sleepless nites. thanks in advance!
  12. haww i got 8 right , i got the gaming question wrong and the one about the DRM...never heard of that before!
  13. found it, bumped it good sikhtoon!
  14. I been thinking bout this one for a while...Bhagat Kabeer was one Weird Bhagat to come up with this kinda stuff  @ ....makes you think so hard! I think this is spritual birth rather than the physical aspect. Theres loads of ppl right on this forum who were born before their parents! then i lost it on the bit about the lion and fish and cat carryin away the dog... hmm so he took it he opposite way, made the roots in the sky and the branches in the ground, lol. Basically renamed the parts of a tree ... Either there are trees that really have fruit and flowers in their trunks, or Bhagat ji related this to the Guru or enlightenment somehow. You gotta dig deep to get to the reward. You gotta stick to this path and you'll be rewarded eventually...something like that. This is physically being in one place but mentally you are somewhere else? LIke sitting in the gurdwara and thinking about the party you gonna go to afterwards...or the homework you didn't finish yet, lol. So maybe the bull has brought the load home but already he is thinking about his food out in the field cuz now he's hungry? Or maybe this is related to a person... Who else has an interpretation? Share!

    Gursikh Friends

dang, thats juz messed up if ppl gonna blank out on a fellow sikh like that. We see that on campus a lot. Someone actually tried this as an experiment. He would say hello to every Indian/Punjabi/Sikh he saw when he'd walk by them and most of them wouldn't say hello back to him, lol. Now when we pass by Indians on campus they juz look the other way or look down and pretend like they didn't see you! Screw them! I'm not amritdhari but I have no singhnee on my msn who i talk to often . So you can add me (satpreet_kaur@hotmail.com) to ur msn...we'll chat sikhi related issues.
  16. With so many Restrictions being placed on the Sikh Women today I wouldn't be surprised if less women decided to NOT shak amrit and join Khalsa. Why join this team if we're not allowed to do things or participate in certain things just because our sex=female?? Its a darn good reason to explore some other religion instead and forget about Sikhi because the guys here are too sexist. Come on, we refer to puratan maryada as if it is the word of God! I'm not aware that the puratan maryada has equal status as SGGS, for all I know it is just a document to refer to but not the word of the Guru...its just written by someone with high level of knowledge on Sikhi thats all.
  17. JSingh, you must have gotten 2 emails from me. All-Info, that email addy bounces back and says "failure notice"...so check the spellings of it. Lemme know I can resend the pictures.
  18. picture drawings? I haven't seen those but I have bunch of actual photos of dead sikhs...you can see what damage was done to their body. Theses are gruesome pictures so i don't wanna post em...its a viewer discretion advised thing. If you want let me now and I can send em to ur email.
  19. lolz Happy burday Daljeet!
  20. Thanks for that! those are some good ideas. My classes end in the evening, so when I leave and walk to the parking lot its already dark. I hate it when I hear someone else walking behind me cuz I don't know if they are following me or its just a student going to their own car. So I jus walk fast and keep looking around for people who seem suspicious to me...scary now that I know theres 60 registered sex offenders in my skool's area. I also used to always keep a pen or pencil in my hand to use as a weapon since i dont' have a kirpan.
  21. I had a friend once tell me how the christians do it. I don't know about YMCA but I guess its some christian org and they have basketball courts on their premises...or maybe they go those courts. Anyway, what they do is sell a chocolate bar to the youths on basketball courts, and while the kids are eating and savoring the chocolate bars, these YMCA ppl are talking about God and Jesus....and eventually thats how they win people. I'm not suggesting lets use deception like candy bars to get a moment to talk to kids about God....but if the idea helps spark some other ideas....I like discussion groups...get all the kids together and get them started on the topic of sikhi and have them talk about their views on it.
  22. And finallly, the moment you have all been waiting for !! The correct answer to the famous person quote contest issss: Nadir Shah !
  23. SGPC needs to be reformed. They are basically sitting on their growing bums while all this propaganda is happening. Aren't they usually LATE to respond to key issues? Thats what it seems like to me but I could be very wrong. Isn't it their job to lead the way in creating awareness about sikhi in Punjab at least? There is loads of parchaar happening on cyber world but in real world that is not happening...the marketing strategy is poor...they are missing the target people. Every Christian in the world knows the name of their Pope. Out of the 22 million Sikhs how many know the name of the jathedar at Akal Takht? How many know who the representative Panj Pyare are today?
  24. juz had brilliant idea last nite (brilliant for me that is!): 1. Immigration to foreign countries has ruined us. It only helped us economically, but while the parents are working 12 hour shifts the kids go astray. Also, we know less of whats happening in Punjab unless we care enough to read the newspaper...which a lot are in punjabi so you can't read it unless someone taught you which was unlikely cuz parents on 12 hour shift. By the time you decide you shoulda learned to read/write the language you think you're too old to sit in a class of lil kids at the sunday skool in gurdwara....make the big picture connection. 2. Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale was a GREAT leader for the Sikhs...lot of influence. People had a sense of direction...there was someone in charge with huge backing intending to make changes for us. After his passing however, there has been a huge lack of leadership. There is no one in charge honestly. The administration has fallen apart and people are doing whatever they please (taking maharaj to bars/halls....all sorts of other beadbi with maharaj in the house....ppl not following hukams from Akal Takht...etc list goes on almost forever sadly). Sikh quam is in chaos and others are taking advantage of it. (I learned this from history of ancient civilization class...when Alexander the Great died his generals divided up India into provinces but they failed to set up an administration so the empire fell--->lack of legitimate leadership and control). So basically...we need an influential leader to rise to this occasion, grab the reins and steer us in the right direction and attack the false propaganda about sikhi. SGPC and Akal Takht have minimal control in my opinion...if they really were Leaders all this BS shouldn't have happened in the first place. We need unity...all these jathas need to come together and when we have a greater quantity we can make a difference (keeping in mind that we got quality too). Majority usually rules.
