  3. living in australia, sydney. born in jalandhar moved here about 7 years ago. the best thing i remember is when my brother slipped and fell in harminder sahib and i gave him the biggest lecture for not walking with care :s (the floor was wet badly as they were washing it). and after that i took couple of steps further to call mom and dad and the next thing i know i am on the floor with my eyes closed and had like 5 people asking me "bhaji tusi theek ho". if that wasnt bad enough i gave the video camera to my lil brother and badly enough for me he was recording it when i fell  . had to come all the way to jalandhar in wet clothes and looking like i took a ishnaan in the saravor with my pant, shirt on :D .
  4. you are absolutely right about us focusing too much on boys/men and not worrying about the girls. even here i have noticed that a person who has cut his kesh is looked at differently but at the same time we seem to not worry about the girl that has cut her kesh. if a boy cuts his kesh the whole community talks about it but if a girl cuts her kesh no one seems to notice it. one thing that i have also noticed is that when someone is giving a speech in gurudwara about the struggle faced by the sikhs and the importance of dastaar, i have never seen someone urging girls to keep kesh or wear a dastaar or for that matter telling them directly about the importance of kesh. and on the issue of sikh men with dastaar finding it hard to find girls, brother you shouldnt worry about it, just become a true sikh and do your nitnem coz the issue can be solved once people realise the importance of teaching there daughters about sikhi.
  5. just look around and you'll see that kalyug has just started, it'll end when waheguru wants it to end. just dont worry about it and try to become a true sikh.

  9. So are you saying they searched him because he had a turban and beard, correct? Did they violate his rights? The system does work, you know. I don't think they're against one particular group. They're just trying to make things as safe as they can, but yeah, it's basically judging someone based on the way they look and if you don't fit into a particular mold, then they probably will pull you to the side. If they follow the law and respect your rights, there's not much you can do about it after the fact. thats what i was trying to say......

  14. i dont know the situation in uk but this aint good.... but for how long are we gonna blame preditory muslims for something that maybe we could have prevented (i am not taking the side of the muslims, so dont say bs like that to me) . people in the sikh community needs to take responsibility(especially some of the parents) and should stop always trying to take the easy way out(i am not denying that this does not happen and i know sometimes nothing can be done to stop something from happening). and my perspective is that in cases such as these the parents needs to stop thinking like they are at war and try to sort out things in a more calm manner instead of acting like taking out there talwar is the only option.
  15. too bad that everything in sikhi is 'science friendly'... nothing in sikhi goes against anythin in science..
  16. out of respect of guru ji is a good enough reason for me, anyway i got these lines from other people on another forum on the same topic, hope that helps.... "i think bowing to Guru Granth Sahib ji is important because we need to learn humility...thats very important according to our Gurus....we need to accept that there is one power which is greater than all on Earth.....as an individual, it was very difficult for me to leave my arrogance and bow" "I BELIEVE THAT GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI IS SEAT OF BIGGEST HONOUR N RESPECT FOR SIKHS. I BELIEVE THAT 10 GURU SAHIBS ARE INFRONT OF ME IN FOR OF GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI... AND I THINK KHALSA PANTH MUST BOW BEFORE GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI..." "Bowing down to Guru Granth Sahib Ji also signifies giving up or submitting ones ego or own mind to follow and accept Gurus Ji’s wisdom." "Yup, the thing is, like i said before when we bow down to the sri guru granth sahib, its not an act. Its hard for people who have less heart and understand in god to understand why we bow down. The words of god are in the guru granth sahib, so you should bow to it if you full understand and worship god. You see god is not seen, and god is when you surrender with no intention to change, but it automatically happens that you become god when you surrender. The guru granth sahib helps us to become of that of god."
