  1. This use to happen in a separate room either before the laava or after. Never heard of anyone conducting it there and then. Seems a bit strange. But ask around it could be the norm these days. Have a word with someone at the Gurdwara before kicking up a fuss.
  2. Not necessarily a conspiracy; there might really be gays born into Sikh families who are terrfied of coming out... ...and before anyone tries to be clever, no, I'm not one of them, and this isn't a cry for help. :lol2:
  3. I was looking to incorporate tofu into my diet, but apparently it contributes to bloating of the tidh, and if someone wants to get their stomach sorted out I imagine it would be a bit demoralising to think you aren't improving wnen in-fact it's the tofu that's letting you down. I do need something in the protein department apart from cottage cheese though.
  4. Don't forget the 5-Alive. Everyone was down to earth and natural at occasions like these when I was a kid. Now it's a stage-managed production, with mutton dressed as lamb cavorting all over the shop, and everyone's a Bollywood superstar in their own head. Embarrassing.
  5. What the hell? Is there any way we can help? This is no joke, we need to help Bibi Ji. Perhaps someone could ask Pinglewara to get involved? I know they're a hospital, but Bibi Ji is mentally ill.
  6. I watched Rise of The Guardians.
  7. A balanced and fair view of the situation, taking into account our duty as Sikhs, as well as living in a secular society where tolerance (even, and this may come as a shock to some people, tolerating things we don't agree with). But that kid situation is weird isn't it? Best to sit them down and explain the situation with homosexuality without getting graphic. Then end that little talk by threateningly stroking your chappal with a mad look in your eyes; they'll get the message. :lol2:
  8. Not a fan of the music, but modern Sikh weddings have become incredibly lavish. Where will it end? I guess we shouldn't be surprised. This is a result of the first generation of Sikhs educating their children who are now reaping the financial rewards of finding well-paid employment, and deciding to spend lavishly on such ceremonies. It's their money of course. I don't agree with it (simplicity and humility is what I'd do) but if you've got it I guess it's tough not to spend it. :biggrin2:
  9. I thought that too. I've been eating bread (wholemeal) since I can remember. It's been 2 months since I gave it up and it feels great. I've never felt lighter. I actually don't even have to work that hard in the gym because my diet is sorted. Before, I had to sweat like mad to feel like I was getting anywhere substantial.
  10. It would give a new meaning to jadh peli lavh pari, naal pobh nikalgi merii.
  11. Steamed vegetables, fresh salads, low-fat cottage cheese for protein, lots of fresh fruit, and water. I was tired of being dependent on all that "suadh" food.
  12. Personally, vegan is too much for me, although I've given up on even the vegetarian food I love (pasta, rice, noodles, bread, and cheese) and it's helped rather a lot. It's tough but it had to be done.
  13. Or equally I wouldn't put it past a certain other faith who wants to see Sikhs and Hindus at each other's throats? Just a thought. Some might say a paranoid thought, but I wouldn't be afraid of being labelled as paranoid if it meant staying ahead of the curve. Better to be paranoid and alert than asleep and unaware.
  14. I imagine a hardcore Singh would dismiss this thread and say something like "My family became Sikhs as soon as living cells emerged from the primordial goo. THAT'S how far back my Sikhi reaches", lol. :lol2:
  15. Here's the trailer for the film. I'm acutally going to buy the DVD and watch it with close interest.
  16. There's a documentary film called 'Shoah' from 1985 which consisted survivors of the Holocaust being interviewed along with footage from the time. It's gone down as one of the best films ever, period. It was the basis for Spielberg's Schindler's List (not for the story but overall). That's the kind of deftness of touch and respect the events of Bluestar deserve. Tackling the matter with broad brush strokes will lessen with Bluestar, IMO, in the eyes of the world.
  17. A film focusing on Operation Blue Star cannot be dealt with the light touch of a Panjabi crowd-pleaser, whether Panjabi audiences are receptive to these style of movies or not. Bluestar is the single most tragic event in modern Sikh history. To shoe-horn in "gaane" and formulaic Panjabi-movie tropes to keep audiences interested would denigrate the aforementioned events of that time. Lets not underestimate the savvy of Panjabi audiences. If something mature, serious, and quality is made, then people will flock to see it. It doesn't need to be a pretentious, artistic, self-indulgent mess to be liked by modern audiences.
  18. I honestly don't know what kind of Gurdwaras some of you fellas attend, but never in my life have I seen people with cut hair responsible for the running of any type of Gurdwara I've been to. :blink2:
  19. I have my suspicions about what we were prior to being Sikhs, and I'll tell you it rhymes with "Uslim". My ancestors must've been the ones that saw the light. :lol2: Fair play to them for that!
  20. It's become almost corporate hasn't it? Very soulless, almost like going through the motions. It's only when a class kathavachak turns up with a bit of fire in his belly does the sangat get going. What do we expect when the decision-makers and the people who pull the strings in the Gurdwara are men in suits concerned with committee politics, etc?
  21. The above is exactly the kind of unconventionality and originality that the restrictive and judgemental Panjabi and Sikh communities frown upon --- and dare I say the complete antithesis to how most of us have been raised and conditioned into living our lives. I expected something a lot less dynamic and "crazy" on this website. :giggle:
  22. I hope this is all verifiable, and not like the reports of 4 saroops of Maharaj being washed away which didn't actually happen. These are peoples lives that have been ruined or are hanging in the balance. There's no time for playing games or stirring the pot, not that I'm saying that's what you're doing brother, as I'm sure you're passing on info you've heard from others.
  23. Because they think we're idiots who are susceptible to a bit of ego-massage in order to get us on side to combat the Muslims by proxy, and the Right are fully aware we have a history with extremist Muslim ideology stretching back hundreds of years. That's why they court us.
