  1. Conversation with God by Neale Donald Walsch was recommended by bhai jugraj singh of BoS Bandginama by Raghbir singh bir. Really good book goes into detail about spirituality. Also prof Puran Singh wrote in english And bhai veer singh in panjabi if possible if not there r english translations Also JailChittiyan by Bhai Randhir Singh. One of my favorite books is Why worshipping Guru Granth Sahib is not idol worship by bhai randhir singh. I read it in panjabi tho
  2. Our fervour and right cause was hijacked by a political agenda. As soon as sarbat khalsa was called by Maan, the end was near. As soon as we appointed leaders the common ppl who had done everything so far and admirably, stepped aside. They thought the leaders will do something now....so next time the people awake dont go appointing leaders. Instead keep the movement alive. Dont bring in unrelated causes. People were angry about beadbi n we changed it totally. Beadbi or any solutions not even mentioned at sk.And dont fall for the political ppl....is there goin to be a sarbat khalsa in april as planned?
  3. If ur talking about the 12 year old sikh kid who was arrested for having a bomb...the police are saying he made a bomb threat.and that is punishable under law
  4. I think we had a lot of sikh fighting sikh because the movement was also alienating to some sikh groups. Sikhs working govt jobs, sikhs living in cities surrounded by hindus. Sikhs living outside panjab in other states, nonamritdhari sikhs, householder sikhs in the pinds. For a while all pinds all of panjab was behind sikhs, even cynthia mehmoud says kharkhoos had so much support from public. That we all voted as one for Maan. But t didnt last. The farmers pindvale got tired of abuse they continously suffered alone with no support from kharkhoos. They would only do vengeance missles not prevention. Like killing beanta after he done too much evil stuff. Also declaring khalistan put those sikhs not in panjab in danger. But those sikhs shouldve come to sarbat khalsa to put their concerns. Same with ppl in govt jobs like police. We should have won them to our cause or made them quit. Later on Darshan Sio Raagi did tell all govt working sikhs to quit their jobs as protest. But it was too late n didnt work, sikhs jobs instantly snapped up by hindus n sikhs were left poorer with source of income gone. N as a protest total failure.... In julio ribeiro autobiography, he writes that kps gill would try countless times to undermine him and say im a panjabi jatt so only i know how to deal with these jatts. Ur too soft on them. Also i think media portrayal of kharkhoos also aleinated some sikhs. Even some good humane sikh police officers. But from pinkys story it seems there were more corrupt sadistic policevale...
  5. Its the weather. Its scientifically proven that rainy places have more depression... Being a californian i can only sympathizeBut wait isnt canada a colder/ rainier place than the UK?....?
  6. I think the hukamnama was describin ur manager. That she is horrible n stuff so dont let urself be dominated by a mean person. Also do something to make ur life better, dont do any nindya, exercise, and take santhiya classes. Also maybe its a good thing shes pointing out ur mistakes, u can learn. Im pretty sure the hukamnama was for her unless u r going around doing nindya???
  7. As things are so bad in sikhi, and getting worse, sggs beadbi, sk vs akali dal, all the other controversies plus gurudwara infightin, backbiting community etc, what makes sikhs stay sikhs n have faith that things will get better? What keeps u in sikhi? What is the treasure trove for u?
  8. My dear brother, u need each to function in soceity. Just dont let them control u. Greed to make money. To have ambitionAhankar is to have self esteem and dignity Anger to have josh n passion, bir ras Moh to raise ur family The rest u can figure out
  9. If u r a female. Then i think this is an understandable position. In the past, if a man with children became widowed the closest female relative would have to step in as the mother. And her life would be forfeit.since marriage was the only option availabe to woman. Her best years would be spent on taking care of the children. And she would be too old for marriage. This would happen in Chinese soceity as well as indian. So in modern times, it seems u are being used to fulfil this role. If taking care of the kids is interfering with ur education or ur marriage prospects. Then please speak up n put a stop to this. If taking care of the kids is not hurting ur future, then suck it up. In a family, close knit culture, everyone has to make sacrifices to make it work. Ask guruji for strength If ur a male, suck it up. The more practice males get taking care of kids n household chores. The better for all society ;)
  10. No it isnt ok for sikhs to 'massacre' their hair. However what about after? Since someone thinks they cannot keep this gift, are they forever unredeemable, unable to do anything good? This i think is the case of moneh shaheeds. They refused the gift of hair and maybe also consequently sikhi, but they could not deny the good causes sikhs were fighting for. They could not sit on the sidelines and just watch. So they joined in and gave their life. This is admirable and deserving of the shaheed title. So even if someone is not amritdhari/keshdhari, they can do good things and admirable things. I think everyone agrees with this.I think the conflict arises in calling them 'sikhs'. When they reject the main rules of sikhi, are they sikhs? I think this problem arises as SGGS is supposed to be jagat guru as well as The Guru of the sikhs. So is anyone following SGGS a sikh? According to sikh rehat maryada, yes as long as not following anyone else and believes in 10 gurus and so on. I like what jkvlondon says that sehajdhari is progress ( ppl of other faiths slowly coming into sikhi) not regression (children of amridhari/sikh families going monah). Thats why the source provided by dally singh is ambigious. Were those cut haired siques new into sikhi or for generations staying sehajdhari or was there an upward movement into the amridharis. At the end of the day, we cant and shouldnt judge ppls avasthas on their appearance. Also i would rather that sikh families allowed children choice then force them to be kesdhari, by saying things like this is a massacre of a gift. The true assests to the panth come when mone decide by themselves through inspiration to come to sikhi. Such as jugraj singh, manvir singh etc. They done a lot more than ppl growing up in sikhi environment. Cuz they were inspired and chose themselves. Also they werent closeted as many who grow up as sikhs are.
  11. I just read the autobiography of julio ribeiro. He denies all human rights allegations while saying that he participated in no interrogations! He also blames KPS Gill for getting the presidents rule established so he could do whatever he wants.
  12. Yes organizations do it, but how many of us would do it? Even just for our pind?
  13. I thought the other girl was iranian. She says her father is iranian....
  14. Same with us panjabis. In panjab farmer suicides, drug addictions are on the rise. We dont help. Maybe only our rishtedar, but not any one else. If we wanted to we could build up panjab. But we're just glad to have escaped. And go on about how hard it is to get settled here.
  15. If jhoot bibek is a problem then dont follow it. We have ppl deciding which bani is bani and what must be deleted and never read. So u can decide which maryada to follow and what to ignore. Just if the panj tell u, then u must do it. But they never read of the rehit maryada at amrit sanchaars but always do it from memory. So they might not say about jhooth bibek. Also u can do ardaas before taking amrit, and explain ur reservations about jhooth bibek to guruji. Then take a hukamnama and decide. Also if after u do ardaas the panj still say to keep bibek, then i think u shud. But they might not. Also breaking bread with the poor doesnt mean u have to eat from same plate. You can both eat together but in seperate plates. Also isnt HIV contagious through body fluids like saliva? PS in another post u mentioned u cant read punjabi. Please learn. Especially before taking amrit. If u can speak punjabi its really easy to learn to read. Only 35 letters and 10 vowels need to be learned and then u can read anything...
  16. Is TPV running again? When is the next elections time? Also in the links u provided it says that u can only apply to be members once every 3 years! So TPV couldnt get enuf youth to become members. I hope they on top of getting youth to be members early on.
  17. Thanks. I always wondered why, if the mughals were mongols, they spread islam and used arabic/persian as government language.also why they had qazis in courts of law. So they must have conquered india much later than persia. Giving them time to become well versed in islamic culture before conquering india...
  18. No!!! We dont want ppl like that in sikhi. Especially if they are forced. And it is force as they are being blackmailed: You will only be forgiven if u take amrit. And in india, punishment is harsh if ur caught doing beadbi. People will beat up the person. Do u know someone like that did beadbi? I think he should present himself to the akal takhat. (And if they are too harsh tell them u forgive raam rahim why not me too?) The biggest problem will be knowing if he is sincere or faking. Thats why a hukamnana should taken asking guruji if this person is sincere and should be forgiven. He should not take amrit unless he reaally wants to. Come on, one day he is attacking guru sahib with fire, knives, the next day he wants to take amrit just so he wil be forgiven? Amrit means believing sri guru granth sahib is a living guru. I think if the person turns himself in, we should go easy on him in hopes that the other attackers also turn themselves in. Because so far nothing has worked to stop them.
  19. This question relates to the question of Hukam too. If everything is hukam, then why are we punished for sins when they were preordained ie in hukam? The thing is we say god is everything and in everyone. But dont understand. If thru hUkam we were preordained to do bad things then in hukam there is a consequence too. If god orders he also follows.
  20. We have farmers fighting over vats( rows) in a field. Then ppl r gonna fight over boundaries. Also how will we insure it is khalsa raj ie fair n just. Wat if a pind elects a sharaabi ( like they currently do) or a family starts passing the sarpanchi down father to son. Then parties will form n gurudwara fights at a pind scale...
  21. https://pando.com/2014/11/20/the-war-nerd-why-sherman-was-right-to-burn-atlanta/ Above is a link to an article about the american civil war. It has some correlations with khalistan movement. About how a rural, more religous part of a country is trying to secede/seperate from the secular, industrial country. The background is that an american general burned down a city of the south.( the war was north vs south) So anyway he talks about how guerilla war is horrible. I think indian govt committed attrocities on purpose just like sherman. To get ppl to give up n i think it worked. Also that unless we ourselves are willing to live thru war, lets not start it in panjab...
  22. I said he is credited for the boycotts, not that i consider him the person who did it. Also all my knowledge of indian pokitics comes from my family. As they were there during the 80s they should know, right? However, theres conflicting views. My dad blames simranjit singh maan for the boycotts and still hasnt forgiven him for it. While my nanaji blames Jasbir singh rode. He says he was the akal takhat jathedaar at the time. At first, i couldnt believe it, but when ppl starting saying that he was known to do alot of other bad things, i thought its possible. Especially since santji himself told about how one of his brothers wouldnt even let him take some pathe for the majha...Yes all of the above is hearsay and based on assumptions, thats why i asked for more info and where else i could learn more...
  23. Yes!!! Finally someone good we can vote for and democratically kick out badal dal. So there is hope of saving SGPC. Now we just have to find someone to fight akali dal in panjab elections....Hopefully we can win back these positions/institutions democratically or it will be very tough the other way. Its going to be major sikh fighting sikh and normal sikhs vs respected institutions....Man it seems like nothing was accomplished right in the 1900s. We are having to do it all again. Kicking out masands from our istitutions is a repeat of the gurudwara sudhar lehar. And getting our independance khalistan is a repeat of fighting for independence in the 40s as well.as panjabi suba lehar in 60s...repeat..so history is supposed to repeat itself if we dont learn from it or if we make same mistakes...so wat were our mistakes, why are we doing this again?
  24. Other woman saints are Mira Bai,she was a hindu saint, very famous. You should read her poetry and about her life. She faced many obstacles because her family did not want her to be a bhagat/devotee.Then there was Mai Kaulan. She was born in a muslim family. But she wanted to be a sikh and i think the story goes her family was going to force her into marriage or force her to give up sikhi. I forget which, sorry. So she runs away to guru arjan dev ji, the 5th guru. And she tells him she wanta to dedicate her life to sikhi and god. So the guru built her her own place. She lived her life there alone, happily. It still exists. It is a famous gurudwara now, Mai Kaulan sarover. So if u did want to start a female saints group. I think it ahould be based there at Mai Kaulan. It is very close to Harmandar Sahib/Golden Temple. Also Mata Bhag Kaur or Mai Bhago. Since a child she wanted to learn martial arts ans stay with the guru. But she was married off. But then she led the deserters back into battle and stayed with the guru for the rest of her life. First as a bodyguard but then as a saint. The guru had a special place built for her to live alone. It still exists, i think near damadama sahib. Her weapons are still there. Then there was a famous woman sikh saint, Mata Gulab Kaur in the 20th century. Many aspiring saints, even men, went to her to get inspired. Read about her. Also somewhere i read that yhere is a gurudwara in delhi, which is totally women based. The granthi/caretaker/priests are women. As is the congregation. Maybe u can visit and stay there. But i dont know anything else about it, sorry. Lastly, i would reccomend the book Eat,Pray,Love by elizabeth gilbert. She talks about woman meditators from all traditions and how they were all similar. She also talks about her stay at an ashram. Which is like a convent but different. And how it is possible to be a devotee while in worldly life. You can skip the eat section..but definitely read the pray section.
