  1. the only part of ardaas that is bani is the part from vaar sri bhagauti ji kee the rest has been added by sikhs over time. The parts added by sikhs can be altered and you can sort of personalize your ardaas. The nanaksar ardas is the one baba nand singh use to do. Guru Da Sikh, msg me on msn, i'll send u it
  2. in gurbani sant/saadh/saadhu doesnt always stand for guru sahib. For example, in salok mahalla nauvan Guru Teghbahadur Sahib says "raam rahio, saadhu rahio, rahio gur govind" iIn this case saadhu clearly means saint.
  3. untitledsingh, you are making it seem as if you believe that guru sahib and akaal purakh are 2 completely seperate entities, when guru granth sahib ji clearly states otherwise.
  4. punj piarey = guru gobind singh ji's roop before become punj piarey, an ardas is done asking for guru sahib to come within the five of them. You shouldnt be so quick to say the punj piarey are wrong to say something.
  5. i got audio, kirtan and normal paaTh pm me and i'll give u my msn, if u want it
  6. for kirtan, sikhnet has some, gurmatveechar.com has a bunch of bhai balbir singh doing dasam bani kirtan. They got some dasam bani katha on gurmatveechar too
  7. it doesnt come in the way when u wanna move around, long cholai are good for sitting down cuz they cover your legs completely, but short ones are better for gatka and stuff like that cuz they wont come in the way of your knees, or your kirpan/soti if you are doing gatka

  9. its pretty sad though, that they are saying "naam thera dheeva, naam thero baatee naam thero thael lae maahi poosarae" and than still during aarti like a hindu would do aarti to a moortee
  10. the singhs at hazoor and patna sahib claim that this is just how maryada has always been over there, and they are just continuing the same maryada.
  11. a singh from cali won, i think his name was harpreet singh, i could be wrong though gursheel singh from shaheed baba deep singh gatka akhara malton came 2nd
  12. to say veganism is pointless cant be right, especially if you are saying that you shouldn't eat meat based on the fact that it messes up bhagti. Think about it, if the same cow that you cant eat because it will make your mind loose focus, how can you drink the milk the cow produces? How will the milk from teh same cow that you cant eat because of its bad effects on the mind, not have the exact same effect on your mind that the meat will have? I never thought of this before, but reading GDD's post made me think, if eating meat from a cow is bad for bhagti, how is drinking the milk form the exact same cow, not bad for your bhagti? and to say that a person is following into the same bharm as jains by doing this, seems wrong to me as well. By saying this, are you than also saying that Sant Baba Harnam Singh was falling into this same bharm when he would look down at the gorund before taking every step he could to avoid killing any insects that may be on the ground? Even though you may not agree with it, you should understand that each person has a distict set of beliefs with stuff like this. In the same way you are saying UntitledSingh is falling into bharm for doing this, others may say that you are fallling into bharm for not eating things like renit, glycerin, gelatin and unfertilized eggs.
  13. it is against sikhi to do these things alone and ecpect to achieve mukti through doing this. As long as you are doing real bhagti at the same time, its up to you how you do it.
  14. heera singhs idea is good, but another i think would be good, is only allowing Guru KHALSA Panth to do the voting. Not just anyone who pays money to become a member should be allowed to vote
  15. i think all these acts can be a form of naam simran if done with the right mindset. Simran is not just limited to sitting down and repeating gurmantar
  16. read the tuk from sohila sahib again, and read the whole thing this time, and look at it in context In baaNi, the words saadh, sant, and saadhu and stuff like that can have more than 1 meaning, sometimes it means guru, sometimes it means sant. In the tuk from sohila sahib it seems to me it means guru
  17. according to sooraj prakash, Bachitar SIngh did Parkarma of GUru Gobind Singh Ji 5 times before killing the elephant. and i also believe it says that Guru Gobind Singh Ji did parkarma of panj singhs when they gave benti to leave chamkaur.
  18. guru granth sahib also says many times that we must do udham, or make an effort. How should this be interpreted than?
  19. if distortion of words in bani bug you soo much, only listen to people doing kirtan who have taken santhia. I can gaurantee you that bhai avtar singh and bhai balbir singh and other raagis are not reading bani shudh when they do kirtan
  20. drawof, u seem to be contradicting yourself. On one hand you are saying that kirtan should be done in raags when being done in guru sahiubs darbar. But than on the other hand you are saying, "guruji's wisdom, snd our heart being pierced by gurbani should get us into sikhi...not tunes! "
  21. take it however you want to......... bhai daya singhs rehitnama All Singhs are brothers and equals. Wash their hair and clothe them. Gifts given to a Singh are received by the Guru. Do not call a Singh by only half of his name. Do not touch the feet of anyone who is not a Khalsa Sikh, but certainly touch the feet of a Khalsa. Do not bow to anyone except a Singh. Do not abuse a Singh. Achieve spiritual liberation by massaging the feet or pressing the limbs of other Singhs. [26, 27, 34, 36, 46, 80]
  22. taksali chola are longer, and wider at the bottom. they have no gatra straps or pockets and they only have cuts on the sides and not the one down the middle
  23. nah, the more sangat the better in downtown nagar keertan i dont think they even take guru granth sahib ji to a hall anymore, so whats the reason for 2?
  24. sure you can, its obviously not on the same level, but it does affect sikhi as a whole. It's not even people like the guy in the pictures fault, but, if you cant educate people in our generation about what sikhi is, or the importance of the symbols and what they mean, who is going to educate the next generation of sikhs what sikhi really is, and the importance of the symbols. Im not even saying the ugy is disrespecting anything, but representing it without knowing the meaining, is a problem in itself. It turns everything you do into a ritual, when you do it without uinderstanding why. Sure its not going to affect you, but look at the future of sikhi as well, if 90% of the sikhs in our generation dont know the meanings of the symbols, or even of sikhi as a whole, whats going to happen to the future of sikhi? Plain and simple, its going to turn into what hinduism has become, a bunch of blind rituals that no one knows why they are doing. So yeah, it is important to educate people or else the lack of education will just snowball, and each generation of sikhs will get more and more into rituals.
