  1. I've always been against Niddar because of his views on Sikhi - but that i'm sorry to say that the quote above makes sense. A good fighter is a good fighter. And all this talk about has it been tested in real battles is just silly talk. When did you last ask your gatka teacher/ karate teacher etc whether they have proven themselves in combat?
  2. I thought most of them were registered charities anyway. I know our local Gurdwaras are. There are many benefits including tax/rate relief. Gift Aid on donations. Increased chances of funding for social/community projects. More power to sangat. Over viewed by the Charity commision etc etc... Only negative (if you want to think of it as one) I can think of is that under Charity Commision rules, there must clear management in terms of an elected committee with regular meetings, AGM etc. Democratically speaking however, this is a big plus, pity its not generally seen like that by us though. Why do you think it is wrong?
  3. MP3s can be encoded at various bit rates. Smaller this is, the smaller the file size but also lower the quality. I haven't done any converting MP3s in ages but when I used to, I normally encoded my MP3s at 128kbps using DB Power Amp. To me, this sounds just fine. To give you an idea of file size... I've got here a 1hour 25min Asa Dee Vaar Kirtan MP3 which is encoded at 128kbps and its file size is 78MB. Maybe others could recommend some free software to let you convert it.
  4. Think before you speak and don't be so quick to pull people down. If you think you can do better, just get up and do it. Gurmel Singh has done more for the Sikh Sangat and the Panth in just the last year than most I know have done in there lifetimes. May Vaheguru continue to bless him with the same immense seva, dedication and commitment for many many many more years to come.
  5. These 'so called advisors' and 'so called panthic leaders' are working hard for us, the sangat. Recently we have been asked to join, serve and help in the form of the Sikh Council UK sub-committees and the more recent Sikh Federation UK sub-committees. Have you joined? Seems to always be plenty of talk generally (me included) but a lot less who actually do anything. Dhan are those sevadaar who give their time, dedication and commitment for the Panth.
  6. Sikh Council UK secures a meeting for 26th September with Italian Government on Searching of the Dastaar at Airports The Sikh Council UK’s European & International affairs representatives have secured a meeting on 26th of September with the Italian Government after intense lobbying and working through the European Commission and others willing to assist. The Sikh Council UK, working with a number of Sikh organisations has been invited by relevant Italian departments to a meeting in order to start the process for agreeing on a protocol on the searching of the Dastaar at Italian Airports along the lines already established as a precedence with the UK Government. The Sikh Council UK hopes this will be another important step towards a European-wide solution. The Sikh Council has been in dialogue with the European Commission as well as the EU departments concerned with transport security over the last 4 months. Finally the hard work is showing positive results. It is critical that the Sikh Panth focuses on the objective of securing a resolution to the pain and distress that our Panth has faced for too long and the Sikh Council UK would urge all Sikhs to work in harmony in securing our right to freely wear the Dastaar. The Sikh Council will be issuing a statement after the meeting on the 26th and will keep the Panth informed of the progress made. 7. I agree with a lot of comments regarding general awareness. Guess what I was trying to say though was just summed up by Aman.

    Redoing Anand Karaj

For a definitive answer, ask your Panj Pyares. In my opnion, if you undertook the Anand Karaj and did the Laavan (and associated 4 parkarma) around Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee orginally, I dont think there is any need for you to redo it.
  9. I have one beanti to everyone going on about people being 'anti sikh channel' or 'pro badal'... Please just stop, think and maybe research a little bit before making judgements. The dastaar issue at airports came about middle of last year, at which point sangat pushed by jathebandies such as Sikh Federation mass lobbied their MPs and the issue was raised at Government levels. When the Sikh Council came into being, they then took lead on this issue and progress had and still is being made not only in the UK but also within Europe and Internationally. So there have been people working at very high levels for many many months and progress has and is being made. The dastaar issue again came into the limelight with the incident in Italy. Sikh Council were notified and quickly spoke to key high level people to resolve the issue. So talks are happening at very high levels at UK/European levels and progress is being made. Yes, time is being taken but UK/European law can't be changed overnight and things are moving in a good direction. So, when positive changes are happening, to then hold a 'D Day protest' is silly. If the UK/European weren't listening to us, then a protest would be fully justified but when Governments are working with us and progress is slowly being made, why protest? Doesn't make sense at all. And I have heard this same view from various organisations including the Sikh Council from when Sikh Channel decided to market all this. Sikh Channel having now consulted with many other organisations have also realised this and have began changing the focus of 'D-Day' to become a Dastaar awareness event rather than a protest to limit any negative effect this may have.
  10. The many many thousands on twitter thought otherwise... Just a small sample of tweets: "Sangat TV with 1 reporter, 1 driver, and 1 van, have tonight delivered far better reporting than @bbcnews and @skynews put together." - SeetohLang "BBC News just reported two boys killed in Birmingham. Sangat TV reported it over 2 hours ago. Get it together #BBC you're looking stupid." -MrNikkiCowan "The Sangat TV guys deserve an award. Sikhs are bloody awesome!" - helenhighwater_ "Carlsberg don't do news channels, but if they did it'd probably be Sangat TV. Best TV channel ever?" - stuartbaggs "Went to bed at 4am this morning and dreamt I was sat on a big luxury sofa, eating jalebi fried in KTC ghee." - nichallford "Sangat TV amazing" - lovelybiscuit8
  11. My dhara is curly too, still use kanga though... only time I can run kanga through it easily is having just had a shower. While wet, I apply almond oil and then comb with kanga. Sure everyone probably does it their own ways though...
  12. I just use almond oil and my kanga... I find almond oil a lot better than baby oil.
  13. Fonts should now work fine, let us know if not. Todays changed to Today's. And Punjabi seems to be more widely accepted and used rather than Panjabi so that one can stay as is Thanks for the feedback
  14. VJKK VJKF... With Vahegurus Kirpa I have managed to create a Hukamnama Web App optimised for mobile devices. Hopefully sone of the sangat will find it useful. See it at: www.designng.co.uk/hukamnama/ Comments & feedback appreciated. VJKK VJKF.
  15. Unless you want a custom designed mobile version of your website something like this will do: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wptouch/
  16. Me and few Singh I know used: Reflex Instant Whey - https://monstersupplements.com/store/search_products.php?search_string=Reflex+Instant+Whey&Search.x=48&Search.y=16
  17. You do know this is REALY old... First video was posted on youtube over 3 years ago:
  18. I also personally know of 1 Singh who was 'employed' by some of the channels, they kept stringing him along but he left after a few months of work as never getting paid a penny.

    Under The Kachera

Over the top and you then loose the modesty aspect of the kachera. To be honest I'm not 100% of the correct Gurmat answer and to be honest, doubt there is one (as in any references anywhere). Common sense would indicate underneath would be fine and I don't think it is a big issue. Best to ask Panj Pyares if you want a proper Gurmat answer though...
  20. Anyone got a full programme of where Phenji is doing talks or any contact details?
  21. Vaheguru - I couldn't even watch the video to the end. Maybe it's because I don't know the full situation behind this but I can't condone this at all. But the whole Dera/Baba situation is sooo much bigger than this and honestly believe we are tackling it from the completly wrong angle. Now a lot of you probably won't agree with what I am going to say here par chalo... If we put Sikhi aside for a moment... most people need/want spiritual fulfillment, inner peace and contentment. So if 'Aunty A' is coming to the Gurdwara or into Sangat and is not getting the karaak her Atma needs from there for whatever reason (lack of understanding or parchar etc) and ends up going to 'Baba A' from where she finds some fulfillment then whos fault is that? Is that the Auntys fault, the Babas fault or our fault? The Aunty gets some spiritual fulfillment, the 'Baba' has helped her to some extent and that must be a pun (unless there's some exploitation or beadbi of Sikhi going on) and we are left all upset that people aren't coming to the Gurdwara. Now, the easiest thing is to blame and attack the 'Baba' and that is exactly what we always do. And what does that achieve? Anger towards us by the 'Baba' and anger towards us by all of his premis regardless of whether they carry on this Dera or not. Have we then achieved what we set out to do? How about instead we get to the root of the issue intstead of just clipping the branches. We all (me (the biggest paapi) included) actually do what we are supposed to do and strive to live Gursikhi Jeevans and become beacons for Sikhi like we should be and also work to make our Gurdwaras into what they are supposed to be. The Gurus house; a place of spritual fulfillment, peace, learning, service and community. A place where people can learn to understand and get closer to Guru Jee and ultimately strive to attain the spiritual salvation they need.
