  1. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH http://fatehnetworks.com/2016/03/07/aa-dekho-ajkal-di-janta-badnam-kar-rhe-han-sikhs-nu/ A little sample. They wear your bana, they speak your language and they are bent on destroying you from the inside. https://www.facebook.com/satnam.s.nami - another little example. Teaches Gatka as an Ustad (imagine what type of parchar he must be doing). Pictures on the internet (cannnot locate them anymore) show him in RSS khakhi knicker, but the BJP pics on his Facebooks should be enough to explain his alliance. The well known example: http://www.shastervidiya.org/ Jio, one should ask himself/herself how did we get to a point in Sikhi where we hate each other and take small differences and turn them into chasms of hatred. How is it that groups of Sikhs who got along perfectly for so many years are suddenly attacking each other in word and sometimes action? How is it that these groups fracture within themselves and create splinte groups? At least some part of this is infiltration and we as a Panth need to wake up to the reality: We are playing into the hands of the enemy at every turn by giving into hatred for each other and turning on each other. They have bought parchariks, they have bought institutions and they have bought your administration. And we dance to their tune. Wake up Khalsa Ji. The only force that can kill Sikhs is...Sikhs. And we are doing a very good job at poisoning our own roots.
  2. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Practicality? Because tidy whities or boxers could be yanked down very easily during any activity (boys' locker room antics). A Kashera is the underwear of a tyar-bar-tyar Gursikh (man or woman) who is ever ready to take on any challenge. It is supremely practical in its security, simplicity and conservative nature. Even for a woman, any person who would dare to subdue a woman for any molestation or rape would face a challenge removing a Kashera if appropriately tied. It may very well buy enough time for that Bibi to retaliate. Guru Sahib gave us his own form, and that form has sentimental, practical, spiritual and temporal purposes.
  3. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Residents of Nanaksar deras/Gurdwaras are celibates - they are called Bihungums. From what I understand, the intent of Nanaksar was to provide a place for those who are solely devoted to kamai and Bhagti to have a place to pursue such activities with a single mind. Raagis, paathis and other sevadaars resident to that dera (thaat) or Gurdwara are to be celibate. "Guest" kertanis/raagis (not resident to Nanaksar) can be invited and they are not required to be celibate. Note that there is no requirement for life-long celibacy - if a Bihungum decides that he (and there are only he Bihungums at Nanaksar from what I know) cannot continue a celibate life, then he is free to pursue a house-holder life as a married person (which is very much accepted in Sikhi and given the highest of statuses). Also, there are those who are associated with Nanaksar (received education or other Sikhi inspiration from Nanaksar or follow Nanaksar Maryada in regards to seva, Rehat, etc.) who also affiliate themselves with Nanaksar which could be married householders and there are the resident Nanaksar sevadaars (Bihungums), who must be celibate.
  4. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH "Khalsa Mero Roop Hai Khaas, Khalsae Mai Ho Karo Nivas". Read this - it explains the love of the Guru for his Sikh. http://www.sikhs.org/nosymbol.htm
  5. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Removed. I'll let the representation of more learned Gursikhs comment here as above.
  6. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Taksal maryada says to sit. Many granthis are from Taksal background.
  7. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Go ahead, tell me what is the formula for turning copper to gold? I'll be glad to weigh in on it. Not plating, but actually solid gold. Pray tell who has the chemical formula to perform a nuclear reaction and rearrange atoms from copper to gold (that is what alchemy actually is, not plating). Go ahead, post it. I'll weigh it with my 8-9 years collective of chemistry study. This isn't some random plating foolery or a theoretical exercise being described - it would be turning a lump of solid copper to solid gold through a chemical reaction. Let's just ignore that Sant Jarnail Singh, Sant Baba Gurbachan Singh, Sant Attar Singh were Sangi-Sathis of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh. Let's ignore that Sant Jarnail Singh (who staunchly was a proponent of Raagmala) slapped his own nephew for violating Akaal Takht Sahib maryada for forcing reading of Raagmala when the maryada was to do bhog withou Raagmala. Let's forget that the Sikh Rehat Maryada clearly states that there is a controversy over Raagmala. Never mind that the majority of Keertan is being done in the harmonium by all Raagis and they are not adhering to prescribed raags and times (and most do not have the knowledge to do so anyways). No, let's create more confusion and disharmony among the Panth with threats of physical violence. Good luck to you all. May Guru Sahib do Kirpa on this Panth to remove these negative feelings and promote unity. So glad that this forum is not representative of the realities of the Panth one sees when actually doing Sangat of Gursikhs. A lot of keyboard warriors around here, to say the least. Truly a sad state of affairs on this forum.
  8. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Despite my better judgement, I am going to address the rather disturbing trend of anti-AKJ sentiment prevalent in this forum amongst some of its users. Have any of you actually done any Sangat of kamai vale Gursikhs from AKJ? I could cite plenty of examples of Sikhs (usually youth, but there are plenty of elders that stir the pot) from other Jathebandis making idiotic statements, but I would not presume to label them good representation of their respective Jathebandis. I have had a chance to do Sangat with Gursikhs from Damdami Taksal, AKJ, Nanaksar and Nihungs. You learn one thing: They all are Naam Rasiyae, lovers of Gurbani and humble Guru Ke Sikhs who are trying to achieve unity with Akaal Purakh. Bairaag, Simran, Baani and Nimarta - that was their life. The store about making gold as presented in Jail Chittian by Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh (he was accorded this title through the Akaal Takht Sahib) is below. The TL/DR summary is Bhai Sahib was given the formula to convert copper to gold and he disposed of it when he realized it was corrupting his mind. Many of the youth who claim to be AKJ are far from understanding anything about Bhai Sahib's life, his books or Gurmat principles he wrote about in his books (this holds true for youth of other Jathebandian as well and the respective Mahapurakhs that graced the planet affialiated with a Jathebandi). Go do actual Sangat of UK Gursikhs who have done some kamai and have jeevans (Bhai Jarnail Singh, Bhai Tarsem Singh, etc.) and get to see what they are like. Our own divisions and prejudices are so counter-productive to the one Khalsa Panth and we are its biggest enemy. "Within two or three days Hira Singh procured from outside a piece of copper and some chemicals, through some inmate. He gave me the formula according to which I experimented with the chemi‐ cals, and the copper was completely changed into gold. Through an extremely reliable person we sent it to the assayer in the bullion market, and the purity of the gold so formed was established. Hira Singh had written down the chemical formulas for me, and now he urged me to memorize them as it was not safe to keep a record of such precious formulas within the prison. Impressed by his love and devotion for me I agreed to memorize the formulas of making gold. The feat of memorizing the chemical formulas was an ordeal for me. I felt that my mind, which had attained purity and peace, once more started accumulating poison. My mind drifted to all the vagaries possible out of the lust for gold. Like a man building castles in the air, I felt I had already become a millionaire, and subconsciously even planned to use most of the money for charitable purposes. A few days earlier my mind was absorbed in the contemplation of Divine Name, repeated with every breath, and I enjoyed the highest blessings of spiritual enlightenment. The light and love of God had become a part of my inner being. But now the concentration and peaceful poise of my mind was terribly shaken, and I thought of nothing else but the untold capacity to make gold and infinite material power I could accumulate. The love and devotion to God receded to the background. I could not even contemplate the Name of God nor recite Gurbani, with the same zeal and regularity. My inner condition can well be described by the following lines from the scriptures: He who forgets the Word of God, Cries in agony like a sufferer from chronic malady. Guru Nanak: Rag Dhanasri p. 661 For the first time in my life, the peace of my mind and my contemplative life was seriously upset. For the first time my mind fell to such a low level, and was thrown into a state of confusion. Ever since I entered the life of divine illumination this was the first time my mind was unbalanced, and the first time my mind was polluted by the thought of wealth. The whole night passed in brooding over all the things I could possibly do with the art of making gold. The formula of making gold inflamed my earthly ambitions and made my pure as gold heart and soul as coarse and lifeless as a stone. Early in the morning I found myself in this pitiable condition. Just then, the servant brought a lighted stove for me to cook my meals. Bhai Hira Singh also came there and asked me: "Have you memorized all the formulas, Bhai Sahib?" I took out the piece of paper containing the formulas of making gold and threw them into the fire. I then stood in silent prayer before God, with folded hands and sought the Lord's forgiveness for letting my mind drift into greed and lust for gold, and I also prayed that I might completely forget all that I had learnt about it. I did not like to think of the gold‐formula even in a dream. Bhai Hira Singh was stunned and shocked at what I did and said: "What a terrible thing you have done? People were prepared to pay me lakhs of rupees for the knowledge of but one formula. I gave you all that I knew. Kings, jewellers and millionaires were prepared to stake all their fortune for the knowledge of this formula. You have destroyed it in a minute. You have thrown away the world's greatest treasure. I may not live long. I may not even get an opportunity to explain it to you again. There is very little hope of my life being prolonged. It is not possible for us to meet in seclusion again. I doubt whether you have memorized a single chemical formula for changing copper into gold. I doubt if you would care to remember whatever you have already memorized. Your face tells me that it has upset you very much. Why should persons like you who are dedicated to the welfare of humanity, be ever depressed by the knowledge of this art? You are not one of those who would use it for your personal benefit or to satisfy your greed. Give up this mood of dejection. I will write the formulas for you again. You can easily memorize them within a week. I will put you to test when you have memorized them." "I am grateful to you, my friend?" replied I, "for revealing to me the secret of making gold which you withheld from your dearest and nearest, but I am not the right customer for it." 'If one sells a precious thing to an undeserving customer it will go cheap; but if one finds willing customer one's precious gift will sell for lakhs.' You want me to do good to the world through gold, under compulsion of materialistic ideal in which I have no faith: Service done under compulsion Is neither a virtue nor charity; "I feel I will have to pay a great price for this business of gold, which I cannot afford to pay. I had just started only memorizing the gold formula, and not making gold, when my mind, heart, and soul have been thrown into a terrible state of confusion. God knows, how low I might have fallen, if I had actually started making gold. The true Guru has saved me from the pit and turned my mind away from it."
  9. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH "A - Actually several of the 52 Hukams are gender specific - " Point taken. But then, it would further the point that the Dastaar bina nahi rehna was not gender specific. If it was meant to be gender specific, it would have said something about males not being without Dastaars. There is no indication that Guru Sahib is addressing only Singhs - nothing about that specific hukam is gender specific. It is not an intellectual leap, it is fabrication. There is a lot of implication of what "I" am willing to accept. Why is that? What does it matter what I have as my personal views? Nihang Singhs are as much entitled to call themselves Sikhs as I am. If there are differences in views on some points, so be it. Every Jathebandi has aspects of Gursikhi in it. Sarbloh is outlined in a hukamnama by Bhai Daya Singh - it is not implied in the Hukam that it was meant for Nihangs only. Sorry, but each Jathebandi picks and chooses, hence why we have Jathebandis. Go take up your argument with Damdami Taksal - if the founder of Taksal is Baba Deep Singh Ji, then how does the Dal Panth allow meat and Taksal does not? Damdami Taksal Rehat. Read carefully, especially the footnote. It is stating that women should have a top knot and also states in that footnote, which is specific to a sentence regarding women, that a turban should be kept. Nihangs: Point 26, Under Oorha: Mandatory for men and women to have blue keski in their kesh. AKJ Rehat fabricated by British? What parts were fabricated by the British - please provide the evidence of any Jathebandi's (not limited to AKJ, any of them) Rehat being fabricated such - details of British communication that show Rehats being made up and inserted into any group. Letters, correspondence, historical documentation. If there is none, then stop making up this nonsense. The above screenshots make it clear that Dastaar was mandatory for Sikh women and are both from institutions that you yourself are stating have been around since Dasam Patshah's time. Again, the same questions remain from the previous post: Is the oldest Khalsa institution (the Nihangs) and the above Mahapurakhs and Stakar-jog Jathebandian wrong and promoting views that are not Gurmat? Does someone have a reference to where it was ordained that Amritdhari women were told Dastaar was optional?
  10. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH A) Can anyone here actually post evidence that Guru Sahib stated that women should not have Dastaars? 52 Hukams were not gender specific - one stated Dastaar bina nahi rehna and would apply to all Sikhs. B) Anyone here care to contend that Sikhs were Amritdhari? Per history, the entire Khalsa Panth was divided into Budha Dal and Tarna Dal for administrative reasons, and then to the Misls. Thus, Amritdhari Sikhs = Nihang. The Nihang Bibian are still dastaardhari, and many contend maintain the original form and discipline of the Khalsa. Their Nitnem Gutka defines that every Gursikh man and woman (Singh and Singhni is the wording used) should have a blue keski in their hair. C) Taksal Maryada is not gender specific in ordaining a double Dastaar. Sant Attar Singh/Sant Teja Singh were also proponents of Dastaars (Baru Sahib is a living testament to this). Many women in Taksal also tie Dastaars. So question: Is the oldest Khalsa institution (the Nihangs) and the above Mahapurakhs and Stakar-jog Jathebandian wrong and promoting views that are not Gurmat? Does someone have a reference to where it was ordained that Amritdhari women were told Dastaar was optional? https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3901/14477778109_fd0081aef4_z.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/navreetsingh/4647643068 - read story below picture as well.
  11. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Read the above Fateh - it will not die. Sikhi has been declared almost extinct many times, and it continues to grow. It is going through a phase, where it must rediscover its glory and begin its adherents must begin to live up to the faith rather than revel in its glorious past while doing nothing to refresh that glory. How long that takes and how much further the adherents sink is up to the Almighty. But it will arise anew and become a driving force in the coming generations to lead humanity. As an example, the first video posted is of the Neeldharis, who were a fork of Naamdharis. They have rejoined the Sikh panth by embracing Amrit and Gursikhi.
  12. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH This was discussed at another forum as well. Water is typically adjusted based on different factors including the type of flour (coarse ground, finely ground, how brown it is etc.). Another Singh posted that the advice to do by weight, when he approximated by various densities of the ingredients, approximately closely to volume as well. That's why I asked the source reference. I am also aware of Bhai Nand Lal Sahib's directions of making Degh, but the water volume still eluded full discovery. http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,32125,32130#msg-32130 When making Degh, I have had to stick to 3, where other Gursikhs I know use 4. Yes, I have watched them make Degh as well. If I use 4, it will require a spoon to eat. Both yield similar results and may have to do with cooking variations as well. Boiling sugar is merely to get the sugar to dissolve fully - it is not to "cook the sugar". The key is to try to time it so that the sugar/water solution is fully ready (all dissolved) by the time the flour/gheo side is giving off its signature aroma and has browned a little. You also may want to turn down the gas on both sides a little bit a little right before going into the gheo/flour mix - raging boiling sugar/water into flour/gheo is recipe for some nice splatter all over the cooktop and burns all over yourself. Make Degh a few times, get a little burned and you will learn soon enough...
  13. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Do you have that recipe with references, particularly with the water ratio? I have been looking.
  14. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Hindu worship also involves waving of a chaur as a means to worship the idol of their faith. However, Guru Sahib is saying that all of creation is in worship of the Almighty and demonstrates such with that pauri. That being said, Koi is spot on as to the why for Guru Sahib. The Almighty's entire creation is in worship of the Almighty through the cosmic Aarti, but Gursikhs maintain the appropriate respect for Guru Sahib through the three symbols of royalty, namely Chaur Sahib to be waved over Guru Sahib, Takht Sahib where Guru Sahib is seated, and Chandoa Sahib, which is the canpoy above Guru Sahib.
  15. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Switch the karahis to see if it makes a difference (variation of Sarbloh in the karahis)? If you have a Sarbloh pateela or other Sarbloh pot that can take the duty of the sugar/water, see if it prevents such and just use that.
  16. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH As long as Youtube keeps the video - I reported to United Sikhs. I did not report to Youtube as I don't want the videos simply to disappear, only to reappear under another user name or location outside of Youtube. He needs to be found and prosecuted under whatever applicable law.
  17. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Sure we do: http://www.freedomandleela.com/sikh-wedding-priest-for-punjabi-wedding/ http://www.anand-karaj.org/ (same folks, different website). He may have wised up, as the second website has this note: "PLEASE NOTE: Dr. Freedom Singh has a set of Sikh Scriptures in Mexico." Before, it stated that they would bring the Sikh scriptures to the location of the wedding, though his "included" section states that Guru Granth Sahib Ji is "included" as part of his services. How quaint that we have turned our Guru into our servant rather than being the other way around.
  18. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Kakkars are to be ang of the body and every second of separation is pain for a Gursikh. Put it on ASAP. I have not seen any Rehat advising that ishnaan has to be done before putting the Kirpan on - it technically is never supposed to be separated in the first place.
  19. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Again, the mahants under British, which pre-date SGPC, were also corrupt and basically puppets of the British. Where there is money, power, resources, and/or land, there will be conflict. hankaar and maya are always the root of these wonderful things.
  20. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH The old Punjabi saying comes to mind: Doubh Kae Mar Jaao!
  21. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Watch 25:20 onwards to find out what Guru Sahib was.
  22. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH There may be a rare minority that are experiencing an actual spiritual state and are able to not control themselves (or are in too much Anand with the state they are in to stop or even have the ability to stop). Many are simply either too ramped up by the environment (bhed-chaal - following others and escalating - most common scenario) or otherwise faking (another minority, but seriously not appreciated by anyone at any Divan - for who knows what reason/gain- God sees everything). To simply dismiss every single event as fake is not a good idea - there are those (again, rare ones on rare occasions) who experience such a state out of true bliss and uncontrollable. To say that it is completely fake - how would anyone explain if the same person who had such an experience also started to float during simran. I hesitantly bring this up and under confidentiality because such things are not to be openly spoken of with details, but the post needs a counter-point to always labeling it fakery. This is a game of love - fakery and bhed chaal is not pleasing to the Almighty. Gurbani will talk of many ways of Anand - Sehaj Avastha of absolute tranquility, the Supreme bliss that cannot be described in words or any human fashion, Bairaag, where one is supremely depressed in emotion and in pain (and yet, the pain itself is sweet in its own way) - love is not one emotion. It is a complex array of stages, emotion and expression. The Laavan expressly and succinctly also pay testimony to this. The true spiritual devotee will avoid any outward show, seek to hide himself/herself, but a gem cannot always (nor always has the control) to hide and sometimes, things happen. The fakers - well, God bless them and take them to the right path. The bhed chaali - God give them the intuition to take true Anand and ras of Gurbani and Simran.
  23. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Kejriwal is a politician and not a Sikh - he needs to get votes and is not bound by the Akal Takht Sahib decisions as to whether to associate with Nirankaris. So far, his track record in Delhi is decent and someone new needs to shake up the establishment. Dukhbir is already panicking and trying to associate Kaali Party with "Kesri Jhandas" (Nishan Sahib) and calling AAP "topiwalae". It's not like Badal Party and Capt. Sahib have a spotless record for being Rehatvaan Gursikhs who never associate with an dubious anti-Sikh characters... Think of it this way: Is AAP going to worse than Kaalis or Digress party? If you think so, vote for the status quo. if not, then vote for another party.
  24. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH More "liberalness" so anything goes vs. Sikhi. More details here from Sukhdeep Singh, who is a local: http://gurmatbibek.com/forum/read.php?3,34257
  25. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH The voice is of "Nihung Dharam Singh" - was declared tankhiya for his "parchar" previously: http://panthic.org/articles/5433 It doesn't sound like he understands what man and woman is in relation to Gurbani. Guru Sahib has stated over and over that the only true Husband/man is Akaal Purakh and we, humans, are the wives/women. Using this relationship, Gurbani explains how our relationship should develop with our Husband Lord. To make a direct translation in the manner of the speaker is not correct. I would not rely on this individual, any of his videos or the Youtube channel to provide any guidance towards Sikhi.
