  11. @shastarSinghWhat's going on ? https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/blast-inside-court-complex-in-punjabs-ludhiana-5-injured-2666949 1 Dead In Ludhiana Court Complex Blast, Centre Seeks Report: 10 Points Ludhiana Court Blast: In a Twitter post, Mr Singh asked Punjab police to investigate the matter thoroughly. All IndiaEdited by Arun NairUpdated: December 23, 2021 5:01 pm IST Ludhiana: A man was killed and five seriously injured in a blast inside a court complex in Ludhiana in Punjab this afternoon. Chief Minister Charanjit Channi said that the blast was carried to disrupt law and order in the city ahead of assembly polls. Here are the top 10 updates on Ludhiana Court Blast: The blast reportedly took place at 12:22 pm inside a bathroom on the second floor of the building. The explosion damaged the walls of the bathroom and ripped through a section of the building, besides shattering glass in nearby rooms. The district court was crowded and functioning when the explosion took place. In visuals, injured people were carried out of the building and police were trying to remove people from the complex. Two of the injured people are women and three men. Ludhiana's police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said one body has been recovered. "Probably that person was either carrying explosive or was very near to it. We are awaiting arrival of NSG team from Delhi. Four injured are out of danger," he added. The incident exposes a huge security lapse in a building so close to the Deputy Commissioner of Police's office in the heart of Ludhiana city. Investigations are focusing on how the explosives were smuggled into the court complex despite security. A team of the National Investigation Agency or NIA has been sent to the blast site. Chief Minister Charanjit Channi condemned the blast and urged people to stay calm. "Anybody trying to disturb the peace and harmony of the state, will be taken to task," he said. Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was among the first to react to the incident, which has taken place in the middle of a fierce campaign for the Punjab election early next year. In a tweet, Mr Singh asked Punjab police to investigate the incident thoroughly. As Chief Minister earlier this year, Mr Singh had expressed concerns about the threat to the state from Pakistan-backed terror forces and had sought 25 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and anti-drone gadgets for the Border Security Force (BSF) for protection. "First sacrilege, now blast. Some people want to destroy the peace in Punjab but we will not allow such plans to succeed. We should stand together," tweeted Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi. In 2017, six persons, including three children, were killed in an explosion near the venue of the poll campaign of a Congress candidate.
  12. https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/news-appeals/men-jailed-exploiting-vulnerable-teenager Men Jailed For Exploiting Vulnerable Teenager Tuesday, 21 December 2021 Two men who exploited a vulnerable teenager by making him work in a cannabis factory in Bradford have been jailed. Zain Bashir and Usmaan Tasif were sentenced today (Tuesday, 21 December) at Bradford Crown Court after they had earlier pleaded guilty to arranging/facilitating the travel of another for exploitation contrary to sections of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. On 23 January this year, a 15-year-old male was reported missing to West Yorkshire Police by his foster carer. CCTV enquiries around the victim’s home address quickly established that he was picked up by a white Mercedes car. This was quickly linked to Tasif and later seized from outside his then home address in Maidstone Street, Bradford. He was arrested and later bailed for further enquiries. Bashir was arrested a few days later, when enquiries into the teenager’s disappearance led police to force entry to a building on Kingswood Terrace, Bradford, where they found an extensive cannabis farm over three floors. He and Tasif were duly charged with arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation and remanded into custody to appear before magistrates. The victim returned to his carer eight days after he had been reported missing. He gave the police an in-depth account of how he had been tricked into getting into a vehicle and how his hair had been cut to disguise his appearance. He has since been moved to another placement outside of the force area. Bashir, aged 25, of Ashfield Avenue in Bradford, was jailed for four years and nine months. Tasif, aged 26, of Bishopthorpe Road in York, was jailed for three years and four months. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell, of Bradford District Police, said: “These two men thought nothing of exploiting a vulnerable teenager and taking him away from a place of safety to work in a dangerous environment. “Their actions were thoroughly reprehensible and this has been recognised by the courts. “Human trafficking and modern-day slavery are abhorrent crimes that trade in human misery and have no place in the world today. “They are also crimes which we treat incredibly seriously in West Yorkshire and our Programme Precision teams work with partners such as the National County Lines Co-ordination Centre, to safeguard those at risk and take action against those who seek to exploit them.” Zain Bashir Usmaan Tasif

  14. https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2021/12/09/fda-says-it-needs-75-years-to-release-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine-data-to-the-public/ FDA says it needs 75 years to release Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine data to the public By Matthew Roscoe - 9 December 2021 @ 10:31 3 USA – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it now needs 75 years to fully release Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine data to the public – twenty years more than it originally agreed on November 15. The request to increase the time limit is to comply with demands for basic transparency and accountability over the FDA decision in December 2020 to grant Pfizer-BioNTech “Emergency Use Authorisation” for its mRNA therapeutic drugs being marketed as “vaccines.” Now the FDA is asking a judge to give it 75 years to produce the data, saying there are over 59,000 more pages than were not mentioned in the first request – although the agency also told the court it can work faster than its previously proposed 500-pages-per-month-rate. That timeline would take it until at least 2096. Aaron Siri, a lawyer working on the case, said in a blog post: “If you find what you are reading difficult to believe – that is because it is dystopian for the government to give Pfizer billions, mandate Americans to take its product, prohibit Americans from suing for harms, but yet refuse to let Americans see the data underlying its licensure,” Siri said. Last month, South Carolina Republican Rep. Ralph Norman introduced legislation that could eventually force the FDA to release all documents relating to the coronavirus vaccine within the next 100 days – although this might not come to fruition now that a new request has been made. At the time of the FDA requesting 55 years to release the data, Norman told Fox News: “How does a vaccine that receives approval in 108 days now require 55 years just to release information? “It sounds like the beginning of a very bad joke.” In other vaccine-related news, is there a link between the Covid jab and footballers collapsing?
  15. @shastarSinghthis Lohara village is near you I think https://www.thebetterindia.com/269817/punjab-farmer-earns-lakhs-nri-quit-job-sugarcane-jaggery-buy/ Himanshu Nitnaware December 20, 2021 NRI Quits Job & Returns To India To Start Organic Farming; Earns Rs 12 Lakh/Year Rajwinder Singh Dhaliwal quit his job as a chef and returned to Punjab to start organic farming, growing sugarcane and selling value added jaggery. Here’s how he did it In 2007, Punjab-based Rajwinder Singh Dhaliwal’s family moved to the US, when he was 33-years-old. Initially, Rajwinder earned his livelihood by driving trucks, and later pursued a degree in hotel management. Eventually, he became a successful chef, but later, decided to return to India. “The immense exposure to the culture, family system, lifestyle and other aspects of the USA helped me learn about the people there. But I realised that I valued Indian culture more, and decided to return to my roots,” he tells The Better India. After returning, Rajwinder launched a pizza restaurant with multiple chains in Punjab. “I signed up for a franchise model in 2013, and a couple of years later, I launched one with my brand and expanded the restaurant chain,” he says. “I was earning well with this business, but it came with a lot of stress. I also demanded that I deal with the bureaucracy and other government machinery. I believe that farming is peaceful and independent. My family practised farming using chemicals, but I wanted to try organic farming for health reasons. Managing business and farming simultaneously was unfeasible, so I decided to quit the restaurant venture,” he explains. Today, Rajwinder is growing crops on six acres of land using integrated farming methods, and earning high profits for his efforts. Creating an organic paradise Rajwinder’s farm in Lohara, Punjab. In 2017, after deciding to wind up his business, the 47-year-old moved to Lohara village to experiment with organic farming on his 8-acre ancestral land. But there was a flip side. Rajwinder had never toiled in the field. “On social media, I met some farmers practising organic farming who helped during the initial stages. I also took help from NGOs and visited farmers in person. These visits helped me understand different organic practices. I did not imitate any specific method adopted by others, and innovated one that suited my needs,” he adds. He spent almost a year carving out a 6-acre land by introducing cow dung, compost and other organic matter. “It took months to generate the right amount of bacteria and other organic matter that would facilitate the growth of plants,” the farmer says. Initially, Rajwinder started growing sugarcane on a 5-acre land. He complimented plants such as turmeric, fruit-bearing trees such as guava, chikoo, plum, pear, kinnow, pomegranate and others. “I identified 23 fruit varieties and have planted 3,000 of them. In addition, I grew potato, garlic, mustard, onion, rose and other seasonal plants,” he says. Rajwinder adds that the fruit plants, which are still at a young age, will provide an additional income in the long run. The seasonal vegetables allow a steady cash flow through the year. Moreover, he has specifically chosen to plant sugarcane varieties suitable for producing sugar and jaggery. He used mulching, drip irrigation and other modern methods like organic decomposer and equipment to reduce the water requirement for crops. “The overall measures have reduced the water requirement by 75 per cent compared to traditional farming methods,” he shares. Jaggery being made at Rajwinder’s farm. “I planted sugarcane crop varieties like 64, 89003, 85 and 88, which are suitable for agro-processing and started making jaggery and sugar from the harvest. Having a setup is inexpensive and feasible. Rather than selling conventional jaggery, I value-added it by using sesame, dry fruits, turmeric, holy basil, ajwain, fennel and moringa,” he says. Rajwinder adds that conventional jaggery costs Rs 310 per kilo, whereas he offered the unique product at Rs 370 for the same quantity. By the third season, his sugarcane yield increased to 10 tonnes a year, and now reached 12 tonnes. “Apart from jaggery, I process the sugarcane juice further to convert it into refined and brown organic sugar,” he says. Rajwinder also processes turmeric into powder to sell it in the market. “I did not have any market linkages and used social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to generate sales. I did not make packets but offered loose products and posted pictures explaining their quality and purity,” he says, adding, “It also helped me cut down on plastic usage and take an eco-friendly approach.” Earning 40 per cent more Today, the total revenue from the overall sales earn Rajwinder Rs 12 lakh per year, he says. “I earn Rs 8 lakh by selling jaggery alone. If I sell sugarcane to the factory, I will receive approximately Rs 350 per quintal. But processing the same is earning me Rs 1,100 equal quantity. I sell brown sugar at Rs 140 a kilo, a premium than the refined sugar,” he says. “I earn about 40 per cent more than a farmer can from the 6-acre land. All thanks to agro-processing,” he adds. Organic jaggery at Lohara farm. Speaking about charging a higher price for his products to the customers, Rajwinder says he explains to customers in detail why this cost is justified. “I tell them they will require less quantity of jaggery or turmeric for their daily use, as compared to other products in the market. The premium is for the purity and superior quality of the products, as they are non-adulterated and not made from inferior raw materials. The overall sugar or jaggery is reduced by 30 per cent because of the better sweetness. Hence, the money paid for the better quality products does not become economically expensive,” he says. Tajinder Singh from Ludhiana is one of Rajwinder’s customers, and has become a regular since he first tried the products. “I believe in organic food and have consumed jaggery and sugar from Rajwinder’s farm. I trust the quality of the products and have been a loyal customer for the past few months,” he says. Though Rajwinder has sought success in his agricultural adventures, his family is not entirely supportive of his activity. “My family is unhappy with the decision to practise agriculture. I have moved 35 km away from the city to my farm, and it causes much inconvenience, especially to my two daughters who are fond of urban life,” he notes. But Rajwinder is determined to continue and feels confident about his current progress. He is sure his income will multiply once the trees start bearing fruits, as he shares plans about expanding his agricultural land by taking more varieties of crops. “There is much adulteration in food, and instead of bettering our health, the items do more harm to the human body. I aim to produce quality food products similar to how I grew up during my childhood and the earlier generations who were blessed by the same,” Rajwinder adds. Edited by Divya Sethu

  18. @GurjantGnostic What's the media been like on this one: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/rogel-aguilera-mederos-petition-gets-millions-of-signatures-to-overturn-110-year-prison-sentence/GGWTSJCVO3VPSP2KIWKRO3OE5Y/ Rogel Aguilera-Mederos petition gets millions of signatures to overturn 110-year prison sentence 21 Dec, 2021 07:47 PM A petition to show leniency towards a truck driver who accidentally killed four people has passed 4.5 million signatures. Rogel Aguilera-Mederos, 26, was sentenced to 110 years in prison last week for the April 2019 crash in Colorado. Aguilera-Mederos told police he lost control of his brakes and was unable to avoid traffic that was backed up, hitting 28 vehicles. Doyle Harrison, 61, William Bailey, 67, Miguel Angel Lamas Arrellano, 24, and Stanley Politano, 69, who were all travelling in separate vehicles along the highway at the time were killed. The driver was convicted on 42 counts, including vehicular homicide, first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault, reckless driving and careless driving. Judge A. Bruce Jones said despite the driver passing all of the drug and alcohol tests that were given including a chemical test, his hands were tied because of mandatory minimum laws and gave him the minimum allowed. Now more than 4.5 million people have signed a petition on Change.org to have the sentence commuted. "Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos, 23 has nothing on his driving record, or on his criminal history," the petition reads. "This accident was not intentional, nor was it a criminal act on the driver's part. No one but the trucking company he is/was employed by should be held accountable for this accident. No, we are not trying to make it seem any less of a tragic accident that it is because yes, lives were lost. We are trying to hold the person who needs to be held responsible, responsible. The trucking company has had several inspections since 2017, with several mechanical violations." Speaking at his own trial, the tearful driver asked for leniency. "I'm dying. It is hard to live with this trauma. I can't sleep. I'm thinking all [the time] about the victims," he said. "This was a terrible accident, I know. I take responsibility. But it was not intentional. I am not a criminal." One of the victim's daughters even pleaded with the court to have mercy. "I know I don't get to have my dad for the rest of my life, but I hope that the defendant's son can have his dad for the rest of his life," she said, per Fox 31. "There are many things Rogel could have done to avoid the courts, but he took responsibility showed up and severely apologised to the victims' families," the petition continues. "Some of the families even offered forgiveness. Rogel is not a criminal, the company he was working for knew the federal laws that go into truck driving but they failed to follow those laws. "Rogel has said several times that he wishes he had the courage to crash and take his own life that day, this tragic accident wasn't done with intent, it wasn't a criminal act, it was an accident." Some truck drivers on social media are reportedly calling for a boycott on the state, and calling on other drivers not to work there.
