  1. I don't agree with this. Sometimes you need to post a link to Gurbani or a Gurbani resource. Or a YouTube link. And sometimes, when debating, people challenge other people to post a reference. So how would banning links work? You can post the most outrageous assertions, but when someone challenges you, you simply say "I'd post the proof, but links are banned"? Frustrating.
  2. I think it would be short-sighted to not appreciate the wider context, which is the entire political and economic environment we find ourselves in, in Punjab. The fact is that if a pro-Punjab government would ever be elected, it would be extremely difficult for it to accomplish its program. The very fact that Punjabis are fairly successful abroad and they do obtain degrees in all sorts of subjects seems to demonstrate that there's nothing inherent in us that holds us back, rather it's just the environment. So basically, we're in a vicious cycle: 1) we're uneducated, so we don't elect a pro-Punjab government 2) we need to elect a pro-Punjab government to allow for education and economic opportunities so that we can become educated. And by education I don't just mean "chemical engineering" or something. I also mean Sikh values and what we as a Panth should aspire to.
  3. Simple: There are Guru Granth Sahib ji sarups, too, which feature purported paintings of Guru ji. Does that mean that Guru Granth Sahib ji is fake, too? The bani is real (Aad or Dasam), the paintings are artists' conceptions.
  4. I totally understand preventing new fake users signing up and spamming the board with advertising links and such. It is puzzling and also frustrating why users with hundreds, some with thousands, of posts would need to be be similarly restricted. If they had been causing a problem, they would have been discovered years ago. The disabling of the "link" button is similarly problematic (for longtime users).
  5. You know, Jagsaw, underneath the tough exterior of bluster and boastfulness, there does seem to be a smidgen of concern in you for our Panth. But I have to say you'd get much farther without being so dismissive and and disdainful of every other member of the Panth except you.
  6. Can you provide the ang number and which shabad. No, bro, I can't. Because that is not from Gurbani, just as all the other sakhis are not. As I mentioned, that is from the Makke-Medine di Gosht (Discussion at Mecca and Medina). The discussion Guru ji had with the Muslims.
  7. ohh......I didn't not know that. LMAO whtv I will leave this topic up still. Ok. I don't know if you're actually a "kid" as in your username. But it is very encouraging that you are able to accept new information and adapt. Good on you.
  8. No, that's not "Guru ji" wearing a topi. That is a drawing that an artist created from his mind of someone in a certain form of dress who (in his mind) represents Guru ji. That doesn't mean that's Guru ji. It just means that's the artist's representation, nothing more.
  9. There are about 34,000 Muslim children in Birmingham, and a few thousand Sikh children.
  10. What you would normally suppose the meaning to be would be: People who vichar vidia (think over or study education) are parupkari (helpers of others). But, for whatever weird reason, Prof. Sahib Singh inverts the words and claims this as the meaning: People who become parupkari, think of them as having become a person who vichars vidia.
  11. Agree, and same here. Not only that, but with hundreds of posts (like you have), why should you have to be forced to undergo moderation. Especially if there's never been a problem before? Also, the "link" button has been disabled. I think it should be brought back at least for longtime users. The Admin is just making more work for himself by having to approve Every Single Link.
  12. The article says that in the UK, the Charities Commission says a charity cannot be political. I can't really comment on that or for advocacy in general, but I am under the impression that just about every Jewish synagogue advocates for Israel. And many religious institutions advocate for Darfur and Tibet. Will the Charities Commission also be looking into that?
  13. I don't know who this Baba is, but I do agree that simple langars are better.
  14. OK. But right now (and also in the near future when Muslim births outnumber all other communities), Sikhs aren't facing problems from whites trying to fight, kill or rape them. This is as opposed to the 1970s. So, protecting Sikhs would including being concerned about Islam. If you disagree, do you think Sikhs would fare well in a country full of Rotterhams?
  15. That's probably because our women insist on not wearing Sikh articles of faith.
  16. Kudos to them! Only the kaums which encourage their young people to marry early last. The ones that don't are doomed for destruction. I.e., white people who have a negative growth rate. They marry far too late. Have 0 or 1 children. So it's good the bibian are telling young people to get married.
  17. Good point. Though you'd have to ensure that certain old men don't take advantage of the situation with young girls.
  18. I agree with some of what you said above, but not this. I don't quite know what you mean by"we", but people use "zero" in Punjab, too. What you write as "ziffer" is actually "siffer". That's what you would say in Punjabi if you don't want to use the English word "zero". Everybody uses "chitta" in Punjab. It's just that some people used the word "safaid", too. Just like sometimes you would say "sir" (head) and sometimes "sees" (head).
  19. Don't scare people off from visiting our homeland, bro. It's not that cold. Were people around you wearing rajai's? Just wear thermal underwear. Actually you didn't have to. Your family chose to. You should have gone during the day before. Also, this shows the problem we continue to have in not having enough flights out from Amritsar, which is all the fault of the government.
  20. That's not true. You can buy all the heaters you want: https://www.amazon.in/s?k=room+heaters If you're talking about central heating, if it's in your own house, you can pay to have installed. https://dir.indiamart.com/impcat/central-heating-system.html Or even in your relative's house, if find it useful enough to pay to have them install central heating in the house you'll be staying in.
  21. Agreed. Though I do want to mention that True. Though (and I don't necessary claim that it applies to you here), sometimes people start reading "book" Punjabi which for some reason our intellectuals have heavily Sanskritized, and that's partially why it's unrecognizable to the average Punjabi. For example, taking the example given in the post above, "world". Instead of saying "vishav", you'd be better off saying "dunia", probably the most common word an average Punjabi would use for "world." There are other examples, like using vigiapan instead of the very common and understood ishtihar (poster, advertisement).
  22. True. But merely refraining from adultery won't make you a saint, either. Refraining from tobacco and drugs won't make you a saint, either. Refraining from robbery won't make you a saint, either. (The vast majority of people aren't robbers. That doesn't make them saints.) So, what exactly are you saying? Is there anything that a Sikh is supposed to do? Please share.
  23. Thanks for that bit of knowledge. Yeah, that bit of useless knowledge. Stop being so caste-minded, people! (Directed toward OP.)
  24. I think the problem is, in your little "experiment", you didn't do quite what you thought you were doing. To do what you I think you wanted to do, you should have gone to the left sidebar, clicked "Languages" and selected Punjabi. Unfortunately, you can't do that, because Google doesn't offer that for Google News (neither for Bengali or Gujurati). Only for Hindi. Languages which have more speakers than Gurmukhi Punjabi, by the way. What you did, I think, is search for the word "Punjabi". Not the same thing. On the other hand, if you had gone to google.com and changed your search language to Punjabi, and then entered ਖਬਰਾਂ ("news"), then you would have gotten exactly that. I.e., YouTube channels of various Punjabi news outlets, and then txt links to various Punjabi news sites (like BBC). I don't know quite what your point was, but if it was that Punjabis should follow the news, I agree.
