  1. A lot of the Bani is compiled like musical verses, it is written like poetry, it can be sung like a hymn, and it can be read. There are many levels to Bani. Our Gurus understood how to connect the human to the divine. The reason in part why Bani is written in poetry form which can be sung is that it makes it easier to memorise. A lot of words in Bani which rhyme can have opposite meaning for example Dukh and Sukh. People that get caught up in Semantics miss the wood for the trees. I like Germans but their language is not particularly romantic and I do not know any German poetry or songs other than the 99 red balloons or Beethoven.
  2. One of things I am beginning to realise is that translations don't always do justice because translations do not explain the full meaning of words. Though translations can give an essence, it's never really enough. Words in Bani are multi-dimensional. Translations into English makes it one-dimensional.
  3. One of the ironies of Christians in their attempt to digest eastern/Dharmic philosophies (probably played a contributing factor) is that they have de-Christianised their own societies. Is it any wonder that Atheism is the fastest growing in the west.
  4. Trumpp as a Christian is thinking the Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj is like the bible. Christians do not revere the bible like we revere Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The Bible is just a book where they leave it in a drawer or a bookcase. It's treated like a text book with lines and notes etc.
  5. Transaction is probably the wrong word. It's like nicking a diamond and putting a bit of rubble in exchange. It is taking something superior and replacing it with something inferior. The Christian mindset is trying to place basic arithmetic framework onto something which is PhD Maths.
  6. Anything that is western based Christian intellectual on any Dharmic/India/Eastern based philosphy/religion/concepts from the 19th century typically done for the following reasons: 1.) To plagiarise eastern/dharmic/indic concepts and incorporate and digest them into Western thought. 2.) To christianise the natives so they are more easily malleable and control. It's basically an intellectual transaction.
  7. He was a Christian missionary. His job was to translate the scriptures and to convert people to Christianity. Being a Christian he understands things from a linear historical perspective because that is what the Abrahamics understand. He cannot understand Bani because it is not a history book. And the reason why he found it repititive is because Bani always back to Naam. And that is the whole point of Sikhi, it is to connect to Naam. Of course he is going to insult if as a typical autocratic German who with his linear narrow understanding of things is going to find it fustrating for concepts his brain will not comprehend.
  8. Technically speaking the fact that he is openly doing this means that foreign countries cannot blackmail him with threats of "outing" him. Head of the FBI J Edgar Hoover was a closet gay who dressed in women's clothing and was threatened to be outed by the Mafia.
  9. I heard about the INA in regards to the Japanese but never about the German side of things. But what it does bring up 2 things was that: 1.) They were going to be POW otherwise 2.) They thought that this was a way to get freedom from the Brits. I have relatives on my mother's side that fought with the Japs after they invaded Singapore and Malaya. I suspect that at some level these soldiers who fought WW2 probably thought that fighting for the Brits would bring independence. They probably thought it would bring good will. However, war is a rather messy affair.
  10. I believe it is not necessarily that there is a narcissism pandemic, I think with advent of social media it has been exposed.
  11. Anjem was a boozing weed smoker during his Uni days. He was known as "Andy " Choudary. His piousness came afterwards.
  12. Not really. Cinema is dumbed down because people want to be entertained not get a lesson. People want some escapism and there are elements to the films the audience can relate to. If there was a Punjabi counter culture or some kind of Independent Punjabi Cinema, though may not be commercially successful might appeal to a different Punjabi demographic.
  13. It caters to a major segment of the Punjabi diaspora. Dally like many of us are part of the older segment of the Punjabi diaspora. However, since the explosion of regional cinema and the mass migration of Punjabis since 2000, these newer migrants are now the dominant segment of the Punjabi diaspora. They dominate the cultural narrative and the cinema reflects that. Us older segments are now sidelined from Punjabi mainstream.
  14. If you don't like them don't watch them. If you think you can do better create your own Punjabi films.
  15. If this link is anything to go by, women have unrealistic standards: https://igotstandardsbro.com
  16. I think being a husband and a father is probably the most underappreciated member of the family, the unsung hero. It is the role where the most is demanded of you as there is a burden to perform but it is the one that particularly in this present time gets the least respect. It is probably role that sacrifices the most in terms of resources such as money, energy, attention and time but gets the least reward. It seems to be a role where there is very little upside for a man but a lot of downside.
  17. It is because we are the least tribal people in comparison to the other communities. A Sikh will side with a non Sikh against a Sikh because we tend to value Humanity in general rather than particular subsets of humans. We think differently.
  18. Bihar has always had a reputation for looting and banditry They do this to everyone.
  19. From my understanding a lot of UP Sikhs moved to UP post partition. I have some relatives in UP, Delhi and Gurgaon. They do predominantly speak Hindi or at least speak Punjabi with Hindi accent where they use thee instead of si. There is a bit if mickey taken out of UP Sikhs. I have heard some comments about the paan spitting of Bhaiyas and how their state is disgusting. However, it does make a change where Punjabi speakers are made fun of and how our boli sounds crude to the Hindi speaker.
  20. I find the writing from right to left in some squiggly script very strange.
  21. If I am correct, Gurmukhi is based on Landa script which came from which is today's Pakistan. So basically Shahmukhi is a foreign script where Pakistanis are bowing down to their Persian and Arab masters. Us Sikhs do best when we lead and do our own thing rather than trying to acommodate and appease. Appeasing these lot gives us no benefit.
  22. In Islamic Jurisprudence there are many levels to lying and deceivIng. It is not only practiced by Shias.
  23. Another pointer: You are not only marrying the person, you are marrying their family. If you are marrying a woman, you are also marrying their friends.
