  1. Depends which branch of us who does this more. People who tend to be more recently arrived are more materialistic or people who have never seen or had consumer goods in their lives are far more materialistic. Those amongst our people who have lived with materialism for decades tend to be less balleh balleh. Like the bhangra music videos. In the old days of the 80's and 90's, twhen it was the UK that dominated the scene you would not hear about the flaunting of this wealth. Now bhangra music scene is dominated by Punjab and recent Punjabi migrants to Keneda and it is the particular demographic that flaunts the wealth and does the balleh balleh. It is this particular section that dominates the narrative particularly in the diaspora. But I find that we should be careful not to necessarily extrapolate this section of our community on the rest of us. There is a lot of jealousy within the Pakistani community, it's just that we don't hear about it.
  2. Puff piece "study" People from Punjab and Tamil Nadugo to work to Lebanon to work because they are low income and want to work for more money. Yawn..
  3. The Pakistanis do enjoy themselves and are not averse to materialism. There have been any conversations amongst our Sikh women how Pakistani women wearing lots of gold. Pakistanis also now drive better cars. You do tend see brand new Land Rovers parked ouside some chicken shop.
  4. When a non Sikh goes after a Sikh our kes is always the target. They want to knock off our dastaar and then cut off the kes. It is equivalent of wiping a cow's blood on a Hindu or pig's blood on a muslim.
  5. There are particular phenotype that distinguishes us from a Keshdhari Hindus. It goes beyond the kes
  6. I suspect they think that cutting off our kes is more humiliating than death since we do talk about our shaheedi. Since we pride ourselves on kes and having a dastaar since we always harp on about how important our kes is and how our dastaar is our crown, they target it. It's a psychological thing more than anything else. It would be the equivalent of us forcing them to eat a bacon sandwich.
  7. You resort to insults when you cannot discuss or argue. Then normally you get schooled and then you go quiet for a while with all the pleasantaries before you start with your barrage of insults. You also pick up a few new words and think you are clever not even knowing what they actually mean. You also mimic other people's writing styles and style of posting. You are void of any authenticity. You play the tough guy act, you are an old man in his 50's trolling and threatening kids. If you met their parents you would get your head kicked in. You would not dare say what you post online to their face. Face it you are a coward in real life, you are no street thug. You are soft middle class Pappu that has fantasies about being some tough guy. But let me say something before you I block you and not bother answering your barrage of BS again Go FU.CK yourself you little bald skinny pot bellied Kenyan Coolie Pappu Duggu piece of Sh1t Give my regards to Simba and Ska Pumbu and all your Disney mates. Goodbye ?
  8. There are no good days or bad days Just days where there is Bani and and days with no Bani A day without Bani does not feel right That is all
  9. It can get too toxic. That is why there has to be some healthy distance and boundaries. You are dealing with narcissists and sociopaths.
  10. My father once told me that our people aren't 2 faced, they are more like four faced or five faced. I come to think that they are all authentic it just depends on the situation as our people are quite contradictory. They are all things and every thing all at the same time. In terms of trust, I guess it depends on the varying degrees, the question is what are you trusting them with? You have to maintain certain boundaries but be able to mingle with them without disclosing too much.
  11. They are very adaptable and can have great social intelligence. They are very good and adept to suss out the landscape very quickly. They cannot get away to the extent like they back in Punjab but they find loop holes to exploit in the west.
  12. Only Mickey Mouse Singhs go there. You have to be absolutely Goofy to even think about it!
  13. For all their cunning they have a petulant adolescent mentality. Never mistake cunning for wisdom. They come from an environment where it is dog eat dog. They are not used to altruism. When they see altruism they see it as weakness, something that should be exploited. They see everything as a race. Who gets pakka first and will always attempt to steal a march. You giving them advice is seen through the prism "Are they holding me back?" If you have seen the cartoon Wacky Races, <banned word filter activated> Dastardly and Muttley would be seen as the good guys by the people in Punjab. It is not that they are necessarily bad people, it is their morality is coloured by their environment.
  14. They are all know-it-all. Any advice you give them is thought of something you are deliberately doing to hold them back because they think you are jealous of them. Just leave them to it.
  15. I remember watching some documentary about teenage pregnancies out of wedlock in Punjab. I confronted my my mum regarding this and she had to admit that these things have happened. I think the problem is that we live in a debauched western society where all these puttheh kam is out in the open. Our people then have this sense of smug moral superiority and we grow up with the belief that we are morally superior to the goreh and we come from a morally superior community. But when we hear about these things, it creates a cognitive dissonance because it breaks this illusion.
  16. Very unusual to hear of a stabbing instead of a shooting. Is there some new gun control measures taking place in New York?
  17. Though if I explore this further. I think that when Sikhs were moving to New York in the 70's, it was a much rougher place than it is now. Manhattan is like Central London and people mainly lived in apartments and in those days it was a much sleazier place. Our people don't like living in apartments. We prefer houses. There is no way our people like to live in places like the Bronx (too many blacks), Brooklyn has too many blacks as well. So the only borough that may be suitable is Queens as it was probably more affordable, less crime ridden where there is more space and you could buy a house. Not a terraced house but a detached one with a basement. What you probably also note is that the demographics has probably changed. These boroughs of New York are quite big and Richmond Hill probably more Jews and Italians living there and probably less blacks Hispanics etc But over the years there has been a demographic shift. This might explain in part why we are seeing things happening. But there are likely also other factors.
  18. New York is not a cheap place. I am no expert either. Sikhs seem to congregate in certain places, Queens in New York seems to be an area which is preferred. Our people tend to like living on the outskirts or peripheries of areas. Queens borders Long Island which is where Sikhs in Queens move to once they are established. Also for some weird reason our people tend to like living near airports. La Guardia and JFK are not too far from Queens. It is in the same way we Sikhs in West London or East London move to the home counties for a more suburban lifestyle.
  19. It's just a documentary with a track on top of it.
  20. Before we get carried away. I just something I found quite relevant here: No matter how noble your aims are, you have to work with the sharks. If you try to change too much at once, the sharks who are embedded in the system will band together and try to crush you. They wish to maintain the status quo.
  21. Well, there are several factors you have to consider: - How big the earthquake was on the richter scale - Type of area it happened in - How prepared the locals were This is a very backward area so they may not prepare like other countries. For example in Japan, there are drills for this, the buildings are built to withstand earthquakes etc. They also earthquake detection so at least some level of preparation can take place.
