  4. In Jalandhar and Chandigarh our relatives said the earthquake was felt, but there was not much structural damage. In Lahore it was also felt and there was some damage and some people were injured and some people died. I do not think there was very much structural damage at Nankana Sahib or Amritsar Sahib. However in Amritsar there was a power line or something (?) that fell over and caused three shops to burn down. I'm not sure if anybody was injured in that.
  5. According to CNN The confirmed death toll stands at 1,337.
  6. Dear Lily it is really admirable that you have decided to help your friend by asking for advice from other Sikhs on this forum about what to do. i think your friend will appreciate your sincerity and friendship. if you get upset with your friend, he may feel you are prematurely judging him. he might say that "how do you know how it feels?" but if you speak to him in a straight forward honest manner, and tell him, "i look up to you for your commitment to your faith. i admire you for keeping your physical and spiritual life in balance. i think it is something that many non-Sikh people appreciate. i don't want you to feel hurt by some ignorant racists. i want yuo to know that there are many more supportive people than you know. that includes me." if you tell him like that, and also show some interest in your OWN faith and heritage - he will see that being devoted to your faith and keeping his identity is something important and admirable. he just needs to feel that he is not alone. the other best thing, and this is the most important thing, is to encourage him to attend sangat (sikh congregation) and be friends with sensible and devoted sikhs. perhaps you can even join him one or two times to show your support. you are doing the job of a good friend and i wish you all the best. vaaheguroo jee kaa khaalsaa vaaheguroo jee kee fatheh !!

  10. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!! Not sure how much of this is true / not true but the summary is: Joginder Singh Vedanti signed a letter from Sri Akal Takhat Sahib demanding that Sukhminder Singh Hansra return the $70, 000 that he got from winning in a Canadian court case against the Dixie Gurdwara in Ontario. They had promised him that much money to run his TV show (i think) and they didn't give it to him, so he sued them. They said they needed that money because it's the sangat's money and they need to use it for other gurmat purposes. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh!!!

  14. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh!!! aah, the veerjee / bhainjee issue. i remember discussing this a long time ago with priya kaur bhainjee online... i haven't talked with bhainjee in a long time; i wonder what she would think of this discussion. these type of dilemmas probably happened before, in puratan times, but not as often. whoever was into sikhi, was into sikhi. well at least that how it should be / should have been. grihastee jeevan is a part of life, but it is not life altogether. thinking about somebody all the time, waiting for their phone calls, dreaming about them - this is not the love of the soul, this is infatuation, almost to the level of obsession. i wish i had the longing for the Guru that you have for this girl. in any case, i am not trying to belittle you or your feelings. i have been in a similar situation which caused me to have to get pesh in front of the punj pyare. these type of things cannot be resolved on internet forums. if you think that your rehit, and this bhainjee's rehit are congruent, then you should talk with her directly. she is an adult, you are an adult. she is a gursikh, you are a gursikh. you should ask her respectfully, and if she says no, you should completely forget about it and go on living your life. you should not put any pressure, and you should definately not say anything about your "waiting for her call" or "having dreams about her" because that will freak her out. life is not a hindi movie. you cannot convince somebody to be your marriage partner because of your emotional attachment to them. if you go in accordance with gurmat, surely guru sahib will find a suitable match for you. before you do anything, you should do ardas to guru jee. the ardas should *not* be that she accepts your proposal. the ardas should be that guru jee protects you, protects everybody (sarbat da bhalla), and gives you the strength to accept hukam. please forgive me if any of what i have said seems offensive. i have been in a similar situation and i know that it can be deceiving. these situations are not worth losing your rehit / sikhi over. whatever guru sahib has in their plans will come to pass. take everything with a grain of salt, in stride, without worry or anxiety. please forgive any mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!

  17. Can we please get the answer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Dear bhainjee, vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!! i know how it feels when a close friend passes away and when a family member passes away. a sister is one of the most special persons in the world. my sisters, by blood relation or by amrit relation, all of them are so inspiring and beautiful souls. i can understand how it feels to lose that type of relation to the physical person. but the spiritual person did not pass away. the spirit just moved from this earth to another level. i'm sure you know this and i'm sure you have faith in akaal purakh's hukam. please stay in chardi kala and try to learn all those great things that your bhainjee did in her life according to gurmat and what lessons of sikhi did she teach you - what can you learn from her life story, and try to improve your own spiritual path with that. also try to inspire others with that. this would be the greatest way you can remember your sister, to help yourself and others become stronger in sikhi and closer to guru sahib. thank you for showing your courage and patience stay in chardee kalaa jee vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!
  19. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh!!! gurmukh pyare jee in the quote above i think that "sootre path," should so "so uthray paar" (that person gets across the world ocean) and "jo sharda kar sawek ke" should be "jo sharda kar sayvday" (those who do seva with sharda) and "Guru par karan har" should be "Gur paar uthaaranhaar" (Guru will help them cross the world ocean) I think up to "Raj Karega Khalsa" is all Guru Gobind Singh ji's bachan from Bhai Nand Lal ji's vaars I think the line "Guru Granth ji manio pragatt guraa(n) kee dayh" was originally "Guru Panth ji manio pragatt guraa(n) kee dayh" but people changed it. The part from "Khanda ja ke haath mai" upto "Guru Kalgidhar Jagdeesh" is by Giaani Giaan Singh jee, i think. information above is from other learned gursikhs - i am trying to verify it with the written proof... don't know where to find it.... please forgive my mistakes vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefathehhhhhhh !!!!!
  20. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!! gurmukh pyare jee if somebody has a disease we tell them to get whatever cure they can get that will not force them to have to get pesh in front of the punj pyare. now i think you all know the devotion and dedication of bhai taru singh ji. i think you all know what gursikhs have gone through to keep their kes. however, gursikhs also encouraged us to live in the gender that we identify with and the gender to which we are biologically inclined. So, if you are a woman with an estrogen deficiency or hyperactive testosterone, you will have decreased female functions, which include all of the things that naturally happen to womens bodies as they develop. This could cause problems in your voice, your health, your chances of giving birth, your physical weight, and many other things. This is a serious health condition. Similarly, for a man, if the man some how has too much estrogen, or his body does not produce enough testosterone, then he will have problems with natural bodily functions of a male. This can mean his voice, his facial hair, his muscles, his physical weight, and his chances of being able to be a father (possibility of being infertile / impotent). This is a serious health condition, too. These conditions above are just like other medical conditions. However, they are not diseases. They are just imbalances. If somebody has diabetes - do you tell them to just suck it up and stop taking their medications or controlling their sugar? If somebody has high BP - do you tell them to just suck it up and not avoid fatty foods, and not do any exercise? If somebody has two legs amputated - would you tell them to just crawl on the floor, and not get prosthetic legs, or a wheelchair? obviously not. These are not diseases, they are conditions that you must live with your whole life. Therefore you have to come to terms with a viable long-term lifestyle and solution that will allow you to keep your rehit, but still balance your hormones and natural body biology. I had to take human growth hormone from the age of 6 to the age of 18 because my pituitary glands don't function properly and my hormones are imbalanced. That's also why those of you that know me, notice my beard hasn't really come in yet although I'm 23 years old. I don't think that the maintenance of my health was against Sikhi. Of course, I do a lot of other paaps and mistakes, but I don't think this is one of them. I don't think that it is against rehit to take human growth hormone, insulin, thyroid balancing medicine, seizure medicine, vitamins, estrogen or testosterone for medicinal purposes if you are living with some type of a medical condition or deficiency. As long as you are not taking them for narcotic, intoxicant, steroid, or self-harming reasons, then they are just for balancing your natural biology. I *do not* think that men should take testosterone if they don't have a condition. And, I *do not* think that women should take estrogen if they don't have the medical condition. Should *not* take it just to make their facial hair fall out. BUT if you do have a medically diagonosed condition, then i think you are not doing anything against hukam - you are just balancing your hormones. If taking these medicines will help you to have a grihst jeevan, and help your body with normalized fertility and normalized health, then it is just like taking insulin, vitamins, etc. these are just the views of a moorakh and i don't know anything about gurmat. i'm not a gursikh and i don't represent or speak on anybody gursikh's behalf. this is just my personal opinion from what i have learned in gurbani and from sikh history and other gursikhs. please forgive my mistakes. vaaheguroojeekaakhaalsaa vaaheguroojeekeefatheh !!!
