  1. get tough and beat him. Joking, not sure really I guess you could do an ardaas for him to have a strong gursikhi jeevan. You probably already have but try talking to him about this. Also has he always been "slacking" or is this a sudden change because of some circumstances? Maybe someone else will have something more helpful than me.
  2. "Don't go making your own programmes, you are a Sikh 'media' channel and all you should do is cover Sikh issues" - Wrong - go home. Sikh society members need to get their act together. They can't go around telling others what to do. They should instead be supporting those who actually do SOMETHING.
  3. You should make a video tutorial on how to do this technique.
  4. Sure it wasn't around doesn't mean it's wrong to express your love for the Guru through other instruments. However the tabla has been there for a very long time (pakhawaj etc).
  5. Yeah, you got it man. Similar thoughts here, Ustaad is necessary but if you wanna speed up the process nothing wrong with looking into things on your own.
  6. I hate reading but that post was written with so much passion. Great post!
  7. http://www.learnkirtan.com/msinghms/01-whole%20book%20with%20Front%20Hard%20Cover.pdf Came across this a while back. You can take a look at it and get an idea etc, however if you want to learn keertan in the correct way it's best you find an ustaad, someone who knows real keertan.
  8. Another incident, how many of us acted on the previous incidents. Sure we all sat down and watched the Sikh Channel coverage of it or maybe felt angry for a while. Eventually it was washed away and forgotten. I don't see anything different happening here, I'm sure there are organisations out there that are trying to stop this from happening.. but simply not enough. In Sant Jarnail Singh Jee's time the singhs had a general to point them in the right direction and bring them together with Guru Sahibs kirpa. We no longer have that.
  9. This person listed in the article is called "Gurdev Singh" and was a granthi at Gurdwara Harianwela Sahib (Misl Shahidan Tarna Dal). He was spreading manmat there was also ruining the discipline of the jathebandi and no one is to sit down with this person or give him hospitality and if you do so it's at your own responsibility. Basically stay away from this guy. This is the gist of the article written by Jathedar Baba Nihal Singh Jee from Gurdwara Harianbela Sahib.
  10. Someone else was mentioning to me about September 2xth or something being some important day aswell. Didn't think much of it, who knows.
  11. Clean your kara if you've not already done it. IE, wash it with water and then make sure you dry it (with a cloth). Don't leave it wet (especially if it's iron ). Ask Waheguru to help you maintain your kakaars. If you didn't do it on purpose, no need to beat yourself up about it.
  12. You'll be fine, when you are in the presence of Guru sahib you'll figure out what to do. Just do as others do
  13. Something about some sort of support being distributed to Punjab and the families who need it who have done seva for the panth was on however they stopped the live show...
  14. I don't think so, they are discussing it on Sikh Channel at the moment. Apparently some youth in Punjab have given the police 2 days to find the culprit otherwise they will find and handle it their own way. That's what 1 of the Sikh Channel presenter are saying.
  15. Went to a diwan of theirs a few weeks ago, saw a few camera's etc. I pretty sure they are being recorded however when they will end up on the internet or at all, no idea. Hopefully someone who is recording can post.
  16. Where I don't disagree with you, however the thing about Kachera's remaining how they are but just adding an elastic strip to it for whatever reason should or shouldn't be anything wrong. Boxers are boxers, kachera is a kachera and that's not the question here. Just because boxers have these elastic strips in them doesn't mean using them would be wrong in other garments if they serve a practical purpose. The question : Get a traditional kachera (with it's nala, all the original cuts etc) Add a elastic strip to the inside. Wrong yes/no? I guess there isn't a straight forward answer and probably situational : "only times kachera should have elastic is for old or disabled people"
  17. Gurbar Akaal I think it was more about when you are going to the toilet etc, but this doesn't answer the question though.
  18. Was discussing with some fellow sangat about how Kachera should be the way they were in Guru Jee's time etc, standard long nala and whatnot. Someone mentioned something which I thought might be valid and I thought i'd share with you to see what you thought. Say if you keep the kachera as it is, with it's nala and every other cut the way it is suppose to be however you ADD elastic around the waist. So the theory was that you arn't taking anything away from the kachera but just adding an elastic layer which in effect helps with it from falling down etc. What are your thoughts on that. Also are their any quotes from any rehitnama's which are AGAINST 'elastic' in kachera etc.
  19. Oh well, my mums village is Chabewal and it's the pind neighbouring Gurdwara Harianbela, I've been there many times before etc. Next time I go, i'll talk to Baba Jee there about it I guess. Thanks anyway
  20. There was a post about false texts and what not being passed around. I hope this isn't one of them?
  21. Jassa jee, could you possibly (if you get the time) find out which line (page number etc) in Sri Sarbloh Granth Jee talks about the Chandals and them being excluded from taking amrit.
  22. Yeah I've been told about Calcutta Musical house in Jalandhar etc, I guess i'll stay away from them. I've contacted Parminder Veerjee and i'm on my way to India on Friday anyway, I'll probably try get hold of a keertani Singh and ask him to come with me.
  23. I'm going to be going to Punjab soon and I want to buy a decent vaja for keertan use. I'll definetly be in Amritsar and Ludhiana. Does anyone know a place where they sell good quality harmoniums and at decent prices? Don't want to get ripped off basically. I'm not too sure how to go about buying a vaja there, I've heard a lot about most places rip you off and they give low quality instruments.
  24. I agree with you when you say people were more naive and innocent etc. For example they didn't have all this media coverage, techonology, t.v. series etc and had a much more simpler living. We're talking about hundreds of years ago, you could even just talk about 50 years ago, things were definetly much more simpler. Will probably get worse if this pattern continues and even fewer Gurmukhs will be about.
