1. http://timesofindia....ow/10180252.cms What is scary about this article is the comments from readers. This is an indian paper so mainly indian readership. I think they have forgotten their history and Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji's sacrifice for them. Some indians really know how to spit in the hand that saved them. The least we can do is click on the article and press 'disagree' or offensive. M Sharma (Germany) 18 mins ago (02:42 PM) There is no need to be sentimental. In foreign contries, people are not sentimental, when it comes to security. Nobody is immune from a thorough check-up at the airports, especially in the US. Many important people from America (I dont want to call it VIPs, this is the language preferred in India) especially women have complained of patting. However, the security system does not make changes (regulations) in view of a few persons. Admittedly, security systems are prone to racial profiling, which we may not like. Coming back to turban, one should not forget that a terrorist brought in a bomb in his turban to assassinate Prof. Burhannudin Rabani just a few days ago. This leads to recriminatory checks of turban at all airports in the world. This does not mean that anyone bearing a turban becomes a terrorist. Security check ups are important for safety of everyone, be it is a hindu, a sikh or a muslim. And if rules of security are introduced with previous lapses (experiences) in mind and once implemented these are not supposed to be broken or diluted for one person or a community in mind. Our sikh brethren should understand that there is no need to be immotional on this issue and you can be rest assured that nothing can pressurize a system to change the security paradigm in the west. And if you wish to keep your identity (which is respectable), you have a little price to pay. Iftikar Thakur (London) 30 mins ago (02:30 PM) I still remember old times wen these ppl use to come in boats as refugees, they were then ready to go any security checks to enter Britain, their women's were checked against vir**ty, now that they are well set there, they want the rules according to them...Its not going to happen, while in Rome, do as Roman do....U r not in ur Punjabi village any more.... Rajesh (Asansol) 1 hr ago (01:17 PM) It is time the sikh community should understand that it for his own safety and he should be more flexible as there are other passengers lives put at risk.If you remove your turban it does not mean all is lost. You must take into account that anyone could be desguiesed as a sikh and carrying a cocktail of chemicals which can pass through the security check at the airport and then detonated on the flight killing innocent travellers. Would you guys like to have that on your conscience OR will '' GOD '' be happy for what you have done by being part of the killing of innocent people.'' GOD LOVES US ALL AND HE WANT'S US ALL TO DO THE RIGHT THING''. Lalu Prasad (Bihar) replies to Rajesh 35 mins ago (02:25 PM) Dont worry abt them man, they will creat problems whr ever they go..... Anand (Melbourne) replies to <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/opinions/10180252.cms#toreply4999738" style="line-height: 14px; vertical-align: top; font-family: arial; font-weight: bold; font-size: 12px;">Lalu Prasad 11 mins ago (02:49 PM) Sikhs should understand that safety is utmost important in any situation. If you are protesting to compromose safety no rational human being in going be on your side. Think what is the implication of compromising safety before you raise your voice.
2. The turnout seemed very south england. I think there was not much youth from midlands. They are clearly still swayed by the 'leadership'. The actual issue at hand needs to be dealt with. Clearly Sikhs are getting trouble across the globe at airports. This is an international issue that needs ekta. I am not sure if i am with the jathebandian on this one. They say they are in talks with the government but seems to be having little impact. Good to see there are still so many people who don't need the green light from a jathebandi to support what is a Panthic issue. My brother is always getting treated differently from others in a queue at airports. Amasing how he is always picked out for the random search! He is forever having to explain away his existence. Is the swab really a good idea? In America they let you touch your own Dastaar and then you touch a tissue paper. This is less degrading than a swab. Why have the Jathebandian not picked up on this? If it is ok for the big almighty US then why is it not ok for the little poodle UK? I think all Sikhs need to have a central point to communicate their experience at an airport and then where things are really bad the tv channels need to pick up on it. This way Sikhs feel supported.
3. Why can't we hold the local Gurdwara committee responsible for this? Or for every beadbi. It is time we stopped shrugging our shoulders and took responsibility. Why do they keep printing Saroops??? It is half the problem.
4. Sorry no Sant or Baba is involved here. It is just a committee. Lets not go off topic. Well thanks to someone for taking some interest. Any ideas what can or should be done? Slightly off topic Why is there a need to keep printing Maharaj de Saroop when clearly there is too many and we are not capable of doing the sewa. Why oh why do they need to break records? They should have stuck to ladoos.
5. It is hard enough having to convince campers about Sikhi and Amrit. Now you want them to do lessons on how to behave at home.
6. While we have so much Beadbi going on of Satguru Maharaj Pavitar Saroops i cannot believe the lack of education these people have.
7. Please forgive me for bringing this to light. Just wanted to know Sangats opinion on this. http://www.sikhnet.c...ok-granth-sahib World’s largest 'Book' ~ The Granth Sahib September 6, 2011 by LIM CHIA YING ~ chiaying@thestar.com.my Source: thestar.com.my THE world’s largest Bir of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is currently being put together to enter the Malaysia Book of Records. Undertaking this effort is the Gurdwara Sahib Puchong temple, also known as the Persatuan Penganut Agama Sikh Puchong Selangor. The book consists of 1,490 pages with holy scriptures stuck on both sides of a page. When fully opened, it measures nearly 13 feet in width and four feet in length, while weighing some 700kgs. The temple committee members said each page of the book is sold at RM1,000 and they are seeking donors to sponsor. “So far we have only managed to ‘sell’ 70 pages which are worth RM70,000,” said the temple vice-president III cum religious advisor Sarban Singh. 13scriptures (37K) Book cleaning: The temple committee members led by Sarban (second from left) sticking the holy scriptures properly onto the pages and clearing any ‘air bubbles’ in between. “This is why we are hoping to reach out to the Sikh community with this opportunity for them to come forward and be a sponsor.” Sarban said the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is their 11th (final) and eternal living Guru which compiles teachings from all the previous 10 Sikh gurus. Each donor or sponsor who contributes before July 30 will have their names printed in some 20,000 copies of a booklet that will be distributed out to devotees. He said the booklet is meant to thank devotees who have contributed to the construction and completion of the temple’s new premises in Bandar Puteri Puchong. The temple’s vice-president IV in-charge of operations Dr Daljit Singh said the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is treated as the Sikh’s ‘Bible’. “We have to recite prayers before opening the book and it is always carried on the head as a form of respect to our guru. “Also, we would either put up a canopy or drape cloth over to protect the book,” said Dr Daljit. The Parkash Dihara ceremony, which is when the book is officially ‘opened’ for worship for the first time, will be held on Sept 1. Temple president Awtar Singh said by embarking on creating the largest book in the world, he hopes it will become an attraction and encourage the younger generation to know more about the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. “Anyone who wishes to view the book can do so at the main darbar of our Gurdwara in Bandar Puteri, where we have two sample pages there,” he said, adding that they are also writing to the Guinness Book of Records for their endorsement. The Gurdwara address is No. 5473A in Persiaran Bandar Puteri. This Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji project is endorsed by the Gurdwara Council of Malaysia, with a launch held on April 13 this year attended by Human Resources Minister Datuk S. Subramaniam, Senator Datuk G. Palanivel and Seri Serdang assemblyman Datuk Satim Diman. Previously, the temple has also made it three times into the Malaysia Book of Records for making the biggest capati in 1997, the largest ladoo in 2007 and the largest variety of vegetarian dishes just last year. Those who wish to donate can address their cheques to Persa-tuan Penganut Agama Sikh Puchong at 42, Jalan BPU 6, Bandar Puchong Utama, Puchong.

9. I agree with this. We youth are much better paid than our parents were. We have plenty of maya to go around. We have too many luxuries. If we really cared we would give up 1 or 2 of them to help fund Gurdwaras and projects. But we would rather cry about things. More importantly does this Guru Ghar not have a hall which allows parties?
10. No my friend what i meant was you are not capable of having a discussion. Instead you don't listen and carry on babling your rubbish. You select what you don't like and start going on about it. I posted alot more in my first post and you ignored it all. It is very good you do household tasks equally with your wife. I commend you for this. But that doesn't mean that a man who doesn't is treating his wife unequally. In some houses the woman does not work and instead she does housework. This does not make that house unequal. Or does it? My friend sikhi is life. You don't leave it behind at the Gurdwara when you come home. Women give birth and men don't. That is a difference. So believe it or not in Sikhi men don't give birth. But it does not mean they are not equal. Let me put it this way. Sikhi wasn't started because men were not doing the housework.
11. I thought Norwegian was the same as Greeks? You cleaning the house explains a lot about you.
12. I agree with Harmeet. We all adopt Equality in the western sense. Saying men and women are different does not make them unequal. Saying women can't to seva of Panj does not make them inferior. Are husband and wife the same? Are they equal? Most married people have different roles in their home. Similarly men and women have different roles in Sikhi. Does not mean anyone is inferior or seen as weak or UNEQUAL. The problem is we get our ideas from school, media and other social factors. Just because something may not make sense to us does not make it wrong. Someone once told me that if you go to a Guru Ghar and try to do a particular seva and someone stops you, you should move on and do something different. Remember Nimrata. Problem is we have so much ego we start arguing. So our women run off and convert to islam to be equal do they? Do they think they will be equal in islam? lol Our selling point? Sikhi has numerous Shaheeds of whom some were women. Try that for a selling point. Before sikhi women were not allowed to pray in some religion. Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj changed this. A women has as much chance to achieve Mukhti as a man in Sikhi. Women probably have the most important role in Sikhi. They give birth to great Gursikhs. If being part of the Panj was the only way to reach our lifes goal then sure we could stand up and say this is not eqaulity. But trust me this isn't the be and and end all of life.
13. It is because we here kicked up a fuss and let the academy know that the law of equity is on their side and they do not have to hand any keys over to this man that both that man and the academy have backtracked. Wow! Looking at your results perhaps you can mediate between Israel and Palestine on here to.
14. Why is it that there are many Guru Ghars where we all know Comittees are profitting and we do nothing about it. Instead here you have someone who put up his property and we are accusing him of wrong doing? Long live the finternet bureau of investigation.
15. The loan may have been an interest only loan hence only the bank profited. I don't think any 1 individual has benefited. In the past when a Gurdwara has been in this position sangat puts up houses to save the Guru Ghar. Being a recession maybe it is more difficult for anyone to do this at present.
16. "I do not agree however that Sikhs should be allowed to enter the premises of the European Parliament wearing even symbolic weapons. When somebody visits another person's house, they have to respect the wishes of the host. I do not understand why you need to carry a religious symbol into the parliament which is a strictly non-religious place and must remain so. You are not visiting us for a religious ceremony so why do you have to wear a religious outfit? Politics and faith are entirely separate and must remain so. All good wishes Bill Newton Dunn, Liberal Democrat MEP for East Midlands " Isn't the European Parliament for the people of Europe? What does he mean "when somebody visits another person's house, they have to respect the wishes of the host". What i take from this is that Europe is not our home. We are just guests?
17. The rivers in india are no cleaner. Probably even dirtier. So if your argument is that the river Thames is dirty then well so is the river at Kiratpur Sahib. There is a ban on taking Maharaj on planes anyway. So taking Maharaj to india would be difficult.
18. http://satyanarayanmandirnewyork.org/gallery.html They got a picture which they clearly label Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
19. If you look at the homepage it clearly states: Satya Narayan Mandir - A brief Overview: The organisation operates and maintains a temple, called a GurMandir, in the SINDHI tradition, A GurMandir is a combination Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) and Mandir (Hindu place of worship); this observance of both religions in the same premises is uniquely a Sindhi tradition. They are offering services for Akhand Paath. From my understanding the Sindhi community does keep Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Pavitar Saroop in their mandirs. It wouldnt surprise me if they had chairs in the same darbar. Before approaching them it may be a good idea to get an understanding of the background. What are the sindhis? why they do this? etc etc you will find our OWN elders will be aware of this community...but obviously chose to ignore the problem. Get the Hukamnama that states this practise is not allowed. When approaching them please be respectful and explain the problem with what they are doing. Remember they have been doing this for years/generations and will not think there is anything wrong with this. Please try to keep everyone updated.
20. If we all write to Akal Takht maybe it can make a difference. Maybe someone draft up a letter that we can all send. Stop the selling of Maharaj.
21. We need to call for an end to selling Maharaj Saroops. This would stop so much beadbi. If enough pressure was put on Akal Takht they would have to issue a Hukamnama banning the sale of Maharaj de Saroop.
22. Maybe we need to adopt a new way of tackling these committees? Across the UK we have a growing problem. Any ideas?
