  1. Another Kaka visiting Punjab  I suppose your Tata Sumo also have a large Canadian flag on it!
  2. Is is prejudice to point out the facts to people who don't know what the reality of a situation is. Ask anyone in Punjab and they will tell you that the Punjabi farmers treated the bhaiyas like family but the situation changed when the farmer realised what kind of people these bhaiyas are. Sitting in Canada and reading books about marxism doesn't make people experts in the bhaiya situation in Punjab.
  3. Singhavelli, You might want to get off your high horse and put away your marxist class struggle claptrap and actually visit the place you seem to know a lot about to see what the reality is, i doubt you've even been to a pind in Punjab going by what you write.
  4. I doubt any of the people who are defending the bhaiya cutting an Amritdhari's hair know anything about Punjab. Bhaiyas don't get mistreated, if anything the anti-bhaiya feelings are a result of firstly Punjabis treating the bhaiyas well and then being repaid with murder, abduction of women and robbery in return. Punjabi farmers used to treat the bhaiyas as family members, allowing them to stay in the family home rather than keeping them separate from the family. In many cases, these bhaiyas have used the opportunity to find out where the valuables are kept and sometimes murdered entire families just to get a few thousand rupees and jewelry. As for the person who said Bhaiyas work hard, that's a laugh. Most expect to get paid for sitting on their backsides. Because the Indian govt has ensured that Punjabi agriculture isn't mechanised and because the traditional Punjabi labour have govt jobs reserved for them, the Punjabi farmer can either hire a lazy bhaiya and hope he does a day's work or leave his crops to rot. It's only in the factories and brick kilns that these bhaiyas are forced to do a full days work. Most bhaiyas in the fields do 1/2 the work a Punjabi would do if he could be bothered to.
  5. Chimna, Tehsil Jagraon, Dist Ludhiana, Malwa
  6. Most of these schemes by the British Govt are just money making scams. The citizenship test is designed so that even people who have lived here for many years fail it. There's no much likelihood that someone whose only been here a few years would pass it.
  7. I have to agree with V, you have to accept ALL the rulings of Akal Takht and not just pick and choose the ones that are in line with your Jatha. People who pick and choose have not credibility and are just playing their little games. So to people like Inder Singh and Admin, can you confirm that you agree that as per Akal Takht Sikhs are allowed to eat Jhatka meat? Btw isn't it amazing that a personality such as a former Akal Takht Jathedar that Darshan Singh was has suddenly been relegated to being plain Darshan Lal and even Darshan Lal Bhatra. I always knew him as just Darshan Singh Ragi but thanks to the investigative branch of SS we now know what his caste background is! We also learn that he is a sharabi, wonders never cease on this forum.
  8. With all the anti-Sikh bukwas that Bollywood Hindus have been churning out, these protesting Hindus obviously don't understand the meaning of the word HYPROCRISY! I'd love to see some Hindus in dhotis attack the offices of the makers of this film and maybe we can also then ask what happened to that great Hindu sense of humour! :umm:
  9. There is no such thing as a pacifist Sikh. Otherwise we wouldn't have a bachan such as "When all means to right a wrong have been exhausted then it is right to wield the sword" We would have had a bachan such as Jesus's about turning the other cheek when someone strikes one cheek. Up to a point a Sikh can be non-violent and history has shown that non-violence can only work in certain situations. If you think that non-violence works in ALL situations then you had best start advocating Sikhs get rid of the Kirpan and replace it with a mala which seems to be more in line with your thinking!
  10. I would support Peacemaker's views if it weren't for the attacks on Sikh identity by the Indian media being so constant and almost a given now. Sikhs have tried the peaceful method yet apart from a few successes through negotiation, there is still no let up in the attacks by the media. Sometimes violence does work and violence aimed at a media outlet such as MTV will not only make that channel think again before they try another attack but others in the same field. This is also just not an Indian problem now, with the popularity of bollywood outside India amongst non-Indians such as in the middle east and the west a new audience which has no experience of 'sardarji' jokes now gets to see all the racism of the Indian media and there is no doubt that it will have an effect on these people especially those who do not have any personal experience of Sikhs.
  11. Nice one. The mischievious Indian media will not learn it's lesson until their offices are burnt to the ground. Some good proactive action by the Sikhs of Mumbai.
  12. In the words of the REM song-; It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine! Does anyone know of a company that makes carts for horses? They look like a great investment opportunity!
  13. Nice one, let's see how his background and his shady friends stand up to real scrutiny. He might be good at making speeches where some people planted by his campaign fake being affected so much that they faint but in a one on one debate with McCain he'll be blown out of the water!
  14. They eat monkeys and some kind of amazonian pig apart from nuts and berries etc. I reckon these guys should become a part of the modern world. MacDonalds should open a outlet near them selling McMonkey burgers. I'm sure some cosmetics manufacturer can supply them with a superior make up than the one they've used until now. One thing I can't believe is that these guys think that they can build a flipping great hut in the middle of greenbelt land and not expect the council to get involved! I bet some council officer is on his way already to give them an official notice asking them to apply for retrospective planning permission!
  15. I am a JATT and a Sikh....caste has nothing to do with sikhism but my family had the name SANDHU even before khalsa came into existence. Its our background and I am proud of it and we will never forget who we are and were....Sandhu's are the bravest and one of the oldest jatts among other kind of jatts. Also ur comment is 100% wrong and pathetic if you think people who are proud of their background(caste) are going against Sikhi. why dont you learn about caste before you make remarks like such? How dare you, we are Dhillons and we are the bravest JATTS and one of the oldest amongst other kind of Jatts. I can't believe that a Sandhu is claiming to be the bravest Jatt 'got', the cheek of it all! plus we are from Malwa where all the Jatts are braver than the Jatts in other areas. Our district has the bravest Jatts in all of Malwa, our tehsil has the bravest jatts in our district and our pind has the bravest Jatts in all the tehsil. I think that should be enough evidence for you to go and rethink your outrageous remarks about your 'got' being braver than mine! Btw long before the Khalsa came into existence, we used to live in caves and I'm so proud of my ancestors from thousands of years ago, I'm going off to light a fire using two sticks! NB. I'm being sarcastic here in case some people start proceedings with the mods to get me banned ))))
  16. Here's my penny's worth. It's amazing how people when they fall for persons of another religion suddenly discover quotes from Guru Granth Sahib and are apt to misquote them to suit their own personal situation. How can you equate the fact that Sikh Rehat Maryada teaches that a Sikh should marry another Sikh with 'hating' another religion? Sorry to be harsh on you but you are trying to fit your Sikhi around your own personal situation. Sikhi is against caste but it does say that you should marry within your religion. This is what the Babaji who your parents took you to seems to be telling you but your ears refuse to listen and you come up with all this 'hating' bukwas. The Babaji quite rightly said that if this person is so much in love with you then why doesn't he become a Sikh. You can run all the 'mills and boones' and bollywood romance scenarios through your head but when it comes to the real world and living as husband and wife and away from the excitement of secret dates and trying not to get discovered by your parents and relatives, and back to the mundane humdrum life your religions will get in the way. |This is what the Babaji was trying to explain to you. You are 27 and you might think that that you know what life is, but believe me you will look back in 10 years when you are 37 and realise how naive you were at 27. Another 10 years later you will again be amazed at how naive you were at 37 and so on. You might think that your parents and other elders including the Babaji are just stuck in the past and your views are modern and forward thinking but trust me they are not. Yours might be a 1% of inter-religious marriages that MIGHT work out. You might be one of the few couple who actually succeed in being able to live up to the usual maxim for inter-religious marriages 'we'll teach them both religions and they can choose which one or none they want to follow when they get older'. Most of these well meaning couples end up with confused kids who don't know the first thing about either of their parents' religions.
  17. The government gets something like 70% of the price of petrol at the forecourts. Because of the dramatic rise in the price per litre from 90p to £1.18 within the last six months, the government has been earning an extra 20p per litre. That's an extra 22%, so it could easily lower the tax rate by the same amount . So the tax would go down to 48% and conversely the price of a litre would go down to around 98p per litre. But they don't care about the motorist because they know a significant amount of the voters will vote labour no matter what. This is what they rely on. When the time comes for the election, just remember that Gordon Brown stuck two fingers at the common people and put him out of a job. (although looks like the labour MPs will knife him in the back before any election!)
  18. Inder Singh, It's not very often I agree with N30 Singh but I do in this case! There is nothing in your post or article from Panthic.org which has any substance. Photos without any regard for context, assumptions and unfounded accusations which would shame any rag from the gutter press. Unfortunately this is the state we Sikhs are in now. We disregard anything anyone may have done as long as they follow our own narrow viewpoint. I don't regard Darshan Singh as worthy of having been Akal Takht Jathedar but then again apart from Bhai Gurdev Singh, none of the Jathedars even the ones appointed by the Kharkoos (Bhai Jasbir Singh of DDT) amounted to much. But if a person has views which are controversial then he needs to be debated with in a rational manner. Apart from a debate during Mahant times as well as one hosted by a dodgy Baba, Virsa Singh there hasn't been a rational debate about Dasam Granth. The Akal Takht Jathedar should have hosted a debate and invited all the pro and against groups and then settled the issue there and then. After an resolution had been reached (not, by illiterate Jathedars and Babas who would come up with any decision that their political masters want) then any person who then casts doubt on, or if the resolution goes the other way, accepts Dasam Granth as on a par with Guru Granth Sahib can be called to account. Until then both sides will come up with Kala Afghana books and character assassination pieces such as your post and panthic.org article.
  19. Having lived in 70s Punjab I know that most Sikhs there believed Nihangs to be good for nothings. Any guy who didn't want to do a day's work would go and join the Nihangs. This new fad of looking at Budha Dal as some kind of worthwhile Jathebandi is a new thing and most of their biggest fans are some young kids from the UK. As from Akali Dal (Amritsar) they will always support anyone whom the Badal Dal doesn't support. If tomorrow Badal supports Surjeet Singh, Akali Dal(Amritsar) will start to support Balbir Singh. For someone who lives in Punjab you don't seem to know much about the way politics and politicians work in Punjab!
  20. Man Utd are pure scum and a bunch of cheats to boot! Here's hoping they get their bu.tts kicked by Chelsea in Moscow. What is it with this season? 3 English clubs in the semis, 2 in the final. Normally they get knocked out in the group or quarter final stages. Well at least England didn't make Euro 2008 so at least we'll be spared the St. Georges flag on every car this summer!!
  21. Happy belated Birthday Bro! Agree with lowest of the low that Vicky Singh does a lot of great Cyber sewa. I've known him online for around 6 years and he's such a great advert for what the ideal Sikh youth should be like today!
  22. Most of Panthic organisations (SGPC, Taksal etc) seem to be with Balbir Singh as the leader of the Budha Dal. Ironic how some Nihangs are criticising him as a government stooge. Isn't he just carrying on the tradition of Santa Singh?
  23. I saw this video on another forum. You have to laugh at the irony of that rodah guy saying Sikhs were created to defend India and not destroy it! I see some men in white coats ready to take him away and put him in a padded cell for his own safety!
  24. Good point Buddasingh. It's funny how this news seems to just come out after Sikh parents protested against a school in Mohali trying to get Sikh students to remove their turbans. Maybe this is a way for the Hindu Punjabis to get their own back. It does seem a bit overblown to have a hartal just because the school wants kids to have a turban. The outrage would make sense if the school rules were changed suddenly to require turbans for non-Sikhs students but Akal academies have always specified turban as part of the school uniform.
  25. Of course, I should refrain from making any judgements about Hitler until I read Mein Kampf in the original German!
