  1. The European Medicines Agency have said that the GSK (Pandemrix) vaccine can be given to pregnant women. I recommend that pregnant women receive the vaccination as we know they are particularly vulnerable to the swine flu virus. Indeed, figures from the US have shown that pregnant women are four times more likely to develop serious complications from swine flu and four to five times more likely to be hospitalised. While both vaccines are new, they are very similar to existing H5N1 vaccines, that GSK and Baxter have already developed. These vaccines have undergone clinical trials involving many thousands of people, including the elderly and young children, which showed these vaccines are generally safe and effective. Previous studies have also shown that changing the strain of virus in a vaccine does not substantially affect its safety profile. These extensive trials therefore give us confidence that the new Swine Flu vaccines carry a very low risk. The vaccines contain inactivated flu viruses so they can’t cause flu. However, as with most vaccines, some people experience mild side effects, including a slight fever and aches and pains. These reactions usually disappear within one to two days without treatment. Most people will experience nothing worse than a sore arm. Pandemrix from GSK contains very small quantities of thiomersal, a preservative that contains mercury. Thiomersal has been used in vaccines for over 60 years to prevent bacterial contamination. Studies by the World Health Organisation and the UK Commission on Human Medicine have found no evidence of health risks linked to thiomersal. The Baxter vaccine is not manufactured using eggs and can be given to vegans or those with egg allergies.
  2. my advice would be to have the jab. Swine flu was not created in a lab, it's just another mutated strain of the influenza virus transmitted from pigs. nothing special.
  3. to be honest, they do represent the typical UK 'sikh' family so i would argue it's a reasonably accurate portrayal of punjabi-sikh families... ...watch here, http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-family/4od#3009296
  4. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!
  5. jees all you younger generation are such conspiracy theorists! let go of all the cynicism, the world really is not that bad!
  6. too much emphasis is being placed upon quantity rather than quality...
  7. Im surprised at how very ungrateful we have become. The sikh channel has hopefully set the ball rolling for the next generation of media orientated Sikhs striving to make our faith and our history be known.
  8. this is one of the reasons i have completely stopped going to gurdwara. i feel i can learn much more by staying home and reading a book about sikhism. iterating bani or meditating without any knowledge is merely a ritual and i would hate to let myself fall this low. i fail to understand why emphasis these days is placed on quantity rather than quality. you can perform your 1 million recitations of a certain bani but that is just an excuse for inflating your own ego.
  9. Numerous studies have suggested that moderate alcohol drinking helps to reduce the likelihood of heart disease. The so-called Mediterranean diet, which includes a larger intake of wine, has been credited with lower rates of heart disease in those countries, despite a higher intake of saturated fats.
  10. Miss Pooja is an absolute legend!!! I couldn't care less if she was a nirankari!
  11. Can’t believe how delusive you really are! In reality there’s often never a solution or general consensus amongst religious issues. Unfortunately this issue is just going to grow bigger and deeper.
  12. ...how about a Sikh version of 'The Weakest Link'. This would be both fun and of educational value.
  13. Excessive alcohol consumption can affect your physical and mental health, your work, and your social and personal relationships. You are also more likely to find yourself in dangerous situations if you have been drinking a lot, as alcohol affects your judgement and you may do things that you would not consider doing when sober. For example, a recent report showed that a quarter of all young prisoners had been drinking when they committed their crime. Health risks associated with heavy drinking include: * liver disease (cirrhosis of the liver), * alcohol related anaemia and nutritional disease, * chronic calcifying pancreatitis, * heart muscle damage (cardiomyopathy), and * alcoholic dementia. Heavy drinking also increases the risk of high blood pressure, cerebral haemorrhage (stroke), coronary heart disease and heartbeat irregularities. People who drink large amounts of alcohol over long periods of time are also at much greater risk of liver damage. This may lead to alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis. Psychiatric disorders are also more common in people who drink more than 10 units a day. They include: * depression, * suicide and attempted suicide, * personality deterioration, * sexual problems, * delirium tremens (sudden and severe mental changes, such as seizures, following alcohol withdrawal), * hallucinations, and * memory loss.

  16. SINGH IS KINNG ...because its about Singh's having FUN FUN FUN and I love Singh's who like to play!! Akshay looks awsome in a pagg! and i love katrina k.
  17. akitosforever im with you mate! I think we're flattering ourselves a tiny bit too much don't you think? Bollywood really don’t have the time to have an underlying anti-sikh agenda nor are they seriously pathetic enough dig their own graves! Just watch this space though because sikh representation can only improve for the future but don't be expecting something in which Indian songs are replaced for kirtan lol.... However I have a feeling people on this forum will never be completely satisfied regardless of anything and this begs the question why have we become so selfish? Stay positive guys…positive attitude makes all into kings
  18. OK so on one side you have an arguably insensitive portrayal of Sikhs in a bollywoood movie – nothing new. On the other hand we have Sikhs outraged with their swords unsheathed, ripping up posters of the film – all this just to find themselves locked up in a local police station, suffering from a concussion or two, but with no disruption to the film being shown as scheduled. Now at surface value one would presume the cause of all this undue mess is the movie itself. But with careful thought it is not difficult to realise that the real cause of Sikhs being miss represented are the Sikhs themselves. If we’re going to behave like clowns and have pictures depicting our foolishness plastered all across newspapers then we really cant blame bollywood for portraying us they way they do. Those shown protesting really have no leg to stand on. Retaliation will only intensify the situation in future. The real solution is a long-term strategy to introduce more and more real representative Sikhs in all aspects of international media – this includes news, soaps, documentaries, journalism, bollywood/hollywood (of course!) and etc. And let’s not forget sports and politics! Anything that’s gets real Sikhs noticed in the public eye is good. I know its an uphill struggle for Sikhs to acquire such positions but that is why it will take time and you can already see the growing number of sikh faces you find in media today e.g. hardeep singh kohli, monty panesar and etc. The least we can do is encourage this trend rather than applying brakes to what seems to be the solution to our own predicament for the time being. I hope one day people can recognise the real ‘pindus’ they have becomes from all this. In a way I think we’re getting just what we’re asking for.
  19. nice video its encaptured our anakh and pride very well! thanx for the post prava!!
  20. may i remind everyone that this movie is not religious reconstruction, its merely a comedy!! O gareeba vich paise vando yaar!!
  21. Rather ironically, I believe these sikhs have done more damage to the sikh image than any bollywood film has. On the other hand Singh is Kinng is doing Singh’s proud the world over! Don’t forget it’s a comedy at the end of the day so we should stop trying to turn it into a religious tale.
