  1. protein shake with a banana in it. using a whey protein that doesn't have added chemical junk
  2. Baba Hari Singh ji is at the forefront of tackling missionary prachar. If they undermine his moral legitimacy than they win a big victory in promoting their gundh, as many people who listen to him would stop believing him.
  3. gorillas are vegetarian and also have "canine" teeth.... As for jhatka, i view that as a completely different thing than regular meat eating b/c khalsa is allowed to do jhatka when there is majhboori (and not for taste). So I don't see that as an issue.
  4. Perhaps try organising a sangat program at peoples' houses every week? That way you still get the benefit of sangat.
  5. Are Sant Sher Singh ji and Sant Bhagwan Singh ji still in their sareer?
  6. yes. but it makes it harder to memorise them. also, the mind often finds it harder to focus on the banian than when they are read.
  7. This book is written by Hindu magistrate who later went into Punjab politics and gained access to behind the scenes information. It is one of the best books on the topic. http://www.bhindranwale.net/sikhismbooks/the-gallant-defender.html
  8. Singhrow often discusses these kinds of issues on Facebook. The police, however, more than often turn a blind eye: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2207756/Police-turned-blind-eye-South-Yorkshire-sex-grooming-gangs-decade.html This is similar to how police forces in many large north american cities made inner city gang problems worse by not responding to calls for minor violations of the law by these gangs. these acts emboldened the gangs and lead to greater rates of criminality. In cities where the police did respond to calls for even minor violations of the law the crime rate did not increase as much. Of course, in the above story we have police ignoring very very serious acts by gangs.
  9. only prem is free. to find out if eating from the langer (or eating from anywhere else for that matter) costs any of your kamai then look up the sakhi of bhai manj ji.

    Kaam.

try telling your mind that if this kaam doesn't stop then you won't get any more ann or swadh foods. from that point onwards, eat only raw fruits and veggies. in conjunction with steps from some of the above posts, it should help a huge deal. usually the food you ate yesterday or several hours ago will have a huge influence on kaam. so it may take a tiny bit of time to sort itself out. but change is the only reality in maya, so know that if kaam is there, it cannot remain.
  11. I understand how you feel. Some serious health problems knocked me off the bhagti path for a few years. but looking back, i realise that b/c of my discouragement, i often didn't go to sadhsangat and i often just lazed about. i could have been much further ahead than i am now and i truly regret all my wasted time. even some slowed progress is better than much slowed progress. if you can't make it to the simran session, there is always kirtan and katha etc. just sit listen, and do simran there if you like. btw, i found having a recording of gurmantr jaap playing in the house attunes the mind right when i walk in the door. i also like carrying around a simranee (tiny mala that fits just around the finger) b/c it really helps with focus. also, poor health doesn't always = bad karam. some janams we are 'wrapping up' a lot of our karam so that's why if feels like we get hit left, right, and center with all sorts of things like bad health. we may be wrapping things up b/c the atma is close to its goal.
  12. read this: http://khojee.wordpress.com/2011/08/28/how-to-choose-a-good-career/ the blog linked to from this is pretty amazing. i've done research on careers etc and found that blog's advice to be very practical.
  13. worldly desires are ok for our current spiritual level. we need to eat, we need clothes, we need to pay our bills etc. nothing wrong with that. when we desire more than what we need, sometimes that can cause problems. we rise above desire through simran, seva, sadhsangat. but even then, until we reach a certain spiritual level, desires will come up automatically b/c of our past lives karmas. it's ok and nothing to worry about. there's nothing wrong with giving yourself an appropriate worldly reward if you wish, or pursuing an appropriate worldly desire. an example is pursuit of the desire to become a doctor. the key message here is to understand that any lasting happiness will not come from the world and fulfillment of worldly desires. lasting happiness will come from dharm.
  14. fantastic response. the depravity of these hate filled types is insane. by keeping a peaceful nature and going within we can conquer our own shadow. by doing abhyaas we lose our fear, and abhyaas, especially of dasam bani, brings out the bir rus (warrior spirit) when needed.
  15. sometimes people have karma that comes up, acting as a hindrance. maybe you need to improve your karma, and to do that you need more and more simran and seva and sadhsangat. I have heard that seva clears the obstacles in the path of doing simran. btw, the fact that obstacles come up does not mean that you have bad karma, its just means that you need to have the wisdom force yourself to MAKE time for simran everyday.
  16. http://www.maskeensahib.com/window.php?p=showPhoto&adresFoto=files/Guru%20Nanak%20Authentic.jpg&sPageTitle=%20Painting%20made%20in%20Baghdad i have heard that sant jagjit singh ji researched and confirmed this portrait to be authentic.
  17. yes, it's true. no suffering need be involved. basically, if someone does your seva, than they get some of your kamai. if you want to offset this than just wash a few dishes or clean a few shoes before you go home. i don't know how much seva is needed to offset it btw.
  18. try doing simran out loud and listening to it. do it loudly if you need to. if you are still too sleepy, open your eyes. the best way is if you are staring at a blank wall, so there are no distractions for your mind to focus on. if you get tired japping naam out loud, you may find that when you loudly jap the 'wahe' then 'guru' follows automatically. this way a person doesn't get tired as fast. Also, I don't think it's healthy to eat supper at 9 pm. if a person has their main meal at 6 or 7 pm, than their sleep will be more restful. you can't have a restful sleep on a full stomach.
  19. sometimes it's easier to do swas swas simran after reading a shabad about it. any shabad about it can be quite helpful.
  20. baba jagjit singh ji does teach these granths if students wish to learn them. there are also recordings of them on gurmatveechar.com. imo, if you really want to learn vidya you are better off first listening to lots of katha, b/c the gian is provided for you in easily digestible form. especially katha of Guru Granth Sahib ji before reading and learning these granths. then the granths help expand upon knowledge gained from Bani. they are not all from hindu dharm. some of them are written by great sikhs of the past and so are entirely sikh. others are from the past and maharaj saw enough UNIVERSAL value in them to have them translated, and panthic sikhs of great stature saw enough value in them to make them part of a regular curriculum for kathakars. Bani has deeper and deeper levels of meaning, some that students cannot access b/c they lack the spiritual level. so some of these granths are written by people at higher spiritual levels and expand upon and teach some of the deeper meanings. other granths help you conduct yourself in the world and help you be aware of those who might take advantage of you or your koum (chanakya), others create detachment from the world (vairaag shatuk). These are things that are not only needed by Hindus, but by Sikhs as well.

  22. in olden times jathas would often engage in simran together for a while before discussing their differences. this is to reduce the influence of the argumentative mind, so people can discuss from a more heart-centered place. the western influence is to take humans from their natural heart-centred way of thinking and instead promote a head (ego) centered way of thinking. However, dharm is a path that required you to lose your head (egoic way of thinking) and instead come from the heart. when a person comes from the heart, there is a softness inside that makes it easier to withstand criticism and have a solution focused orientation. ever notice how when we are criticised sometimes there is this whooosh and all of a sudden the dhian rises up?? it's the inflammation of the ego. btw, i've also never ever even heard of people from sampradas saying you have to take amrit from our jatha.
  23. no. have compassion for these people and don't try to get them to put paap on themselves.
