    I'm Not Sleeping

i used to have same problem. even with proper sleep hygiene (google search it for advice) and exercise etc i had problems. Gyani thakur singh ji told me to do jaap of a particular shabad that hleps with sleep. recite it 11x minimum. After it’s memorised recite it until asleep. Sleep Shabad on Pannaa 807 iblwvlu mhlw 5 ] Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl: rogu gieAw pRiB Awip gvwieAw ] The disease is gone; God Himself took it away. nId peI suK shj Gru AwieAw ]1] rhwau ] I sleep in peace; peaceful poise has come to my home. ||1||Pause|| rij rij Bojnu Kwvhu myry BweI ] Eat to your fill, O my Siblings of Destiny. 2. The main reason Kala Afghana has a bad rep is his nindya of Dasam Bani and his undermining of Gurmat concepts such as Amrit Sanchar, not criticism of vedanti. He did critcisise Vedanti's publishing of a book (Gurbilas Patshah Chevin) b/c Vedanti republished the most authoritative book on the 6th guru's life but didn't make commentary on it (to highlight the anti-gurmat things messed up people inserted into the book). However, I believe he was called for pesh b/c of nindya of Dasam Bani (a legit reason) and b/c his negative parchar is influential. The smaller kathakars who do anti-dasam bani parchar are gnerally ignored, but the bigger ones are more likely to be called to task.
  3. My advice, talk to him, get him to pay child suppport. Write down everything, so you have a record in case he flakes out in the future. IF he disagrees, take it to the courts. But talk to him first, b/c you may be able to avoid the stress and hassle of the courts.
  4. very nice. Is the shareware version of parallels free? some shareware only allows a limited time trial, and doesn't even tell you that there is a limited time trial until later, after installation.
  5. IF the bani was not Gurbani, than excluding it was not wrong. As these organisations correctly believe that Dasam Bani is Gurbani, there is no conflict in thier stances. Perhaps you impute a conflict to them b/c you don't believe in Dasam Bani?
  6. recommend you do a google search. just read some news stories and you'll find out quite a bit. shiv sena is a maharashtr based group, very pro maharashtr hindus. crazy nutters. one time the bjp (a political party) in maharasthra, the cheif's wife's statue got mud splashed on it and they went on a rampage across the state destroying property and even attacking cops. they also opposed installation of sant ji's portrait in sikh owned buildings, said they were gonna stop it by force. that didn't really work out for them lol.
  7. In addition to what some of the posters have stated, there were a number of other somewhat complex issues that lead to 1984. -human rights abuses against sikhs. Sikhs were not given redress for these -water rights. river water being taken from punjab without just compensation. -greater autonomy for punjab as a province within india. they essentially wanted to change the power sharing structure between teh central government and the states so that the states would have greater power (within india). a semi-autonomous region was actually promised to sikhs for joining with hindus. large, nonviolent morchas continually won and wore down the indian govt. however, the govt refused to deliver on things they promsied they would do (to end teh morchas). an election was coming up and indira didn't want to appear weak on terrorism. so she ordered the attack to win an election. the crazy thing is, that it was indiria herself who had made sant ji look like a terrorist when he wasn't as part of her political games. in 84 dozens of other sikh temples were attacked as well, so it wasn't just about sant ji. it was an attempt to crush the chardi kalah of the sikh community. see the book 'the gallant defender' by AR Darshi, a former magistrate and joint secretary to the punjab, for more info. Darshi ji tells a very detailed and behind the scenes story of what happened. the book is online at http://www.burningpanjab.com/gallantdefender/index.htm
  8. I think it's important to ask, does Ashutosh and Gurmeet Baba of dera choota sauda really represent hindu values? I don't think they do. I think they just pick and choose parts of dharms they like, join them together, add a dash of gurmeet magic, and create their own new dharm. Let's be realistic, these people are no more hindu than they are sikh, they are independants who care more about name and fame than they do about the souls of the people who follow them or dharm in general.
  9. does braiding put extra strain on the roots of the kesh? I just tie mine in a joora without braiding, and without wrapping it in a kapra. It's very quick and easy, and I've never had my joora come undone.
  10. " sangat jee wats wrong with ak47 hoodies and Sant Jarnail Singh hoodies its a way of parchar and awareness" When a person who knows little about what happened in the 80's sees such things, do you think that they become aware of what happened? NO. In fact, media have done a good job of making mainstream goray and even many sikhs to see the movement and sant ji as terrorists. These items of clothing do not raise awareness. They instead make you look like a fanatic when you just have pictures and logos with no explanation. Do you understand the facts behind the cause for khalistan in detail? Do you know why the movement started? Do you know the kinds of obstacles they faced? Are you capable of calmly and in English that people can understand explaining all of this to people who don't know? Honestly, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, but when people use ''gangsta'' english, other people don't respect them very much. People don't operate based solely on logic, so even if you have a good argument for khalistan in your gangsta pigeon english, people will still choose to ignore it b/c in their mind people who speak like uneducated hoodlums generally are. And just in general, people want khalistan, but how many are khalsa? As I've stated in previous post, when I go to the gurdwara, there are very few youths (high school or collage age) there at any time. At special programs people come out, but during day to day programs people seem to avoid the gurdwara. While true jeevans are built through work everyday, not just at the occasional programs.
  11. If you need to tie your beard b/c: 1. It's required for work; or 2. to protect the kesh, than go ahead and tie it. But please don't do it to look more western, that's really shameful.
  12. www.sikhawareness.com has english translations of gyani Thakur singh ji's Japji Sahib and Atam Gian kathas.
  13. divine mystic reflections on gurmat by sant scholar naranjan singh. awesome book. can get for free from sikhnation.com. the sikhs by patwant singh is good if somewhat inaccurate (about 1984) book on sikh history.
  14. that's exactly what it was. propositioned is an informal and slightly politer way of saying something sexual was offered.
  15. Although the early stages of dating are not a bujjar kurhait, sikhs are not allowed to date. Read Guru Granth Sahib ji, there is no support for dating of any sort. Some groups, such as some Muslims, allow males and females to discuss and get to know each other in a casual setting WITH a chaperone. I think that is fine. We should have chaperones b/c who knows what will happen. I have been at Sikh student meetings and a new girl came one time, after the meeting she wanted to ask questions on Sikhi and I said sure. She then propositioned me!! I don't think she came there with that intention, but it seemed as if kaam seized her mind. So, if this kind of kaam can exist with strangers, than it surely is more likely to exist between people dating. But to kiss or do anything further is not allowed at all. Bani says 'look upon all women as sister, mother, or daughter' - this clearly prohibits any sort of physical intimacy outside of marriage including kissing etc.
  16. You shoudl wait until you're over your shock before making a decision. Whatever you do it should be based on your own ideas and not those of others trying to influence you to do / not do something that you may regret. Whatever choice you make, you should remember that this girl took a risk in sharing this info about herself with you. You must respect her privacy and make sure this incredibly hurtful info doesn't get back to her parents, as she has clearly changed her beliefs, there is no benefit in them knowing. Try this exercise: 1. Create a mental image of a table with 6 chairs. 2. In five of the chairs are your attitudes. The attitudes are: Caution, Reckless, Negative, Positive, and Creative. The sixth chair is yours. 3. Whenever you have a major decision to make mentally sit with your five attitudes and think about the decision’s end result if you were cautious, then if you were reckless, then negative, then positive, and then if you were creative. You’ll have a better idea of what to do. think about it in terms of Sikhi, future happiness etc. And remember that a person's past has nothing to do with how good a sikh they can be. After all, the first Gurdwara was started by a man who used to rob and kill sadhus.
  17. Bani like Dukh Bhanjani Sahib remove the kalaish (conflict) from your mind. This also is a kind of rog. It's up to you if you want to have the water there. it's a good thing as the water absorbs the vibrations from teh bani, not necessary but certainly not bad. don't know about time of day. For Asa di vaar do it in the morning. Maharaj knows all and it is important to follow time of day rules for Banis.
  18. When The British ruled India there were two somewhat disticnt phases for the Sikh community. 1. Awaken the panth: During this stage kathakars made a huge effort to bring Sikhs into Sikhi, parchaar of Amrit, doing paath etc. 2. Morcha to regain control of Gurdwaras: The enormous combined and united effort would not have been possible if done before awakening the panth. This stage came after waking people up. WRT khalistan and other issues, people need to 1. wake up. build up jeevans. All of the amazing freeedom fighters had strong jeevans. Today, when I go to the Gurdwara, there are almost no youth (high school age) there, there are almost no young people of uni age there. Just a small handful. 2. keep alive the memory of 78, 84, and all kurbania beforehand such as Baba Bir Singh ji 's rebellion against the British. Parchar against manmat like poeple who try to separate panth from it's source of shakti - Amrit and Dasam Bani. But #2 can't be done unless people educate themselves. And unfortunately I see so many who promote khalistan, and yet are unable to defend it or pormote it in any civilised debate w/o resorting to name calling and gangster pidgeon english. My God, if you're not going to build up your jeevan, of follow Guru's Hukam of sweet speech, at the very least speak proper English so people won't ignore your posts. This post of mine is not meant to target anyone, and is general in nature.
  19. I wear a short gatra to the gym with a small 6 " kirpan. some gatras have a limit to how far the loop can slide, so way less likely for kirpan to fall out. just an option.
  20. Certainly, there is nothing wrong with this. However, it will be difficult to go to early morning classes, go go to work etc. The schedule that you have does not fit in with the everyday world. It might work now, but later on it will be harder to change b/c you are making your habit more pukka.
  21. try not eating anything heavy before bed. at least 2-3 hours before. do ardass. amritveela is in our karma. sometimes we c an't get up due to lazyniess, bad habits which we can fix. other times, we need to do heartfeld t ardass, maharaj pleasee change the lekh on my forehead, please bless me with amritvela. do seva to help gain this dat; clean shoes and wipe dust of sangat's feet on forehead, wash dishess etc. and do ardass fr ti. another thing, don't start out so ambitous. try waking up at 4 am instead of 2 or 3. if you're mind is still bad, then tell your mind, we'll only wake up for 2 minutes, and if we feel like it, we will go bacvk to sleep after. get out of bed for 2 minutes, sleep after if you want. next day, add on 2 minutes, day after that add on 2 minutes more. the whole point is that when we first start this amritvela sadhana, we are trying to create a habit. the creation of the habit is more important than how long you stay up at first.
  22. I suggest you google veggie diet to find out some recipiesl. Don't take too much soy, too much is harmful for you. There's a lot of controvversy over soy and its effects on hormones etc. So, a little is thought to be quite good, too much is harmful. You can easily get a lot of protein from green veggies, beans, sprouts, bread (some types - read the label). Here's a recipe I like: Blend protein shake with banana, a handful fo spinach, whey protein, and water. You can also mix otherstuff in.
  23. The birth ceremony wherein newborns are given the ''mini-Amrit'' is so mothers and fathers can shre jooth with thkids. it is not Khande Batte da Amrit, which is still required.
  24. Baba Sri Chand ji was not given Gur gaddi b/c it wasn't in Hukam. He didn't obey all the Guru's intstructions. We see that Bhai Lehna ji was given gur gaddi over Baba Buddha ji b/c Lehna obeyed every single hukam without question. When presented with the dead body instead of asking why he simply asked where should I begin eating? You are right that he was a great saint.
