  1. yes, it is. you can build up your inner strength to keep your hair through meditation on bani (especially in the early morning), and through sangat. Basically, if keeping sangat with certain people causes you to question your identity, even if these people outwardly support you, it is a sign that you need to stop hanging out with them. If watching certain tv shows or reading certain books causes you to feel uncertain, than move away from those things. Go the gurdwara regularly and read about the shaheeds, sants, and gurus and you'll find that your mindset will become much stronger. in other words, make the change internally and externally at the same time.
  2. Kaur, a person who commits a kurhait is no longer an amritdhari, according to the Guru's teachings. Guru ji, in his rahitnamas, has written that it is the rahit that he loves, and not the individual. Unfortunately, some people can't accept Sikhi for what it is and want to change it to suit their own mann marji, but that is not Gurmat marg. Guru ji writes that if you want to play the game of love, place your head on the palm of your hand (meaning give up your way of thinking) and humbly adopt the Guru's way of thinking. If someone removes their hair, I agree that it doesn't make them a bad person. But not being a bad person is not really enough to be a Sikh is it?
  3. sounds like you have some bad karams / habits that cause some rather nasty and intrusive thoughts. keep doing seva simran and satsangat and over time they will decrease. the key is, focus on bani, not on the bad thoughts. let the bad thoughts come and go as they please. if you try to suppress them they will likely increase. so ignore them and keep the focus on naam. thoughts in and of themselves do not have much power. over time they will decrease and even go away. it may help you to find some activity that requires disciplining the mind. for example, you may have noticed that such thoughts are much less during exam time. this is b/c studying is a tapasya and helps to purify the mind. attending sangat regularly is huge. asking for maafi for the thoughts is a good idea, however, don't stress over it b/c it truly is not in your hands. just keep making efforts and LIVE YOUR LIFE and over time they'll go away without you needing to worry about them.
  4. stay busy, use up that extra energy your body has in the gym or seva or walks or anything else. go to sangat everyday no matter what. listen to katha and try to apply the teachings in your own life. if the kaam is too bad stop eating grains/milk/tea/sugar/pop and eat only raw fruits and vegetables and water. the nature of the mind is unstable/temporary. so if you get caught up in kaam just remember that it cannot go against the nature of the mind, it too is a temporary unstable state and will disappear in time. do ardass.
  5. the easiest way is to always go to satsangat, their energy will help you progress. i have noticed more difference in the level of my sikhi jeevan in this past year than i have in any previous year, and the reason is b/c maharaj took me to satsangat more often. if you don't understand and there are no english programs in your area (sometimes gurmat schools have english programs), then i suggest going to the naam japna sessions, going to listen to kirtan, and learning punjabi. also, reading sakhyian of the the Gurus and sants helps immensely when the going gets tough. if you can, going to the amrit vela meditation sessions can be a big boost.
  6. you need to lose the ego in order to meet God. the only way to lose the ego is to give the head to the Guru. that means we accept the Guru's way of thinking, and that includes keeping the hair. i've been through this whole process of doubts that you guys are going through. trust me, once you take amrit and walk the path (while continuously going to satsangat), your whole mindset will change and you will not only realise the mahaan kirpa of kesh, but wish that you had taken amrit earlier in life. by the way, bhagti is stored in the kesh
  7. However, to reach God one needs a pooran Guru, according to Sant Gurbachan Singh ji. Where will these people find a pooran Guru in kaljug? Who has the merit to find a pooran Guru? The various prophets such as issa ji, mussa ji, buddha ji, they were not pooran. Guru Granth Sahib ji is pooran so through kirpa of Amrit those who do not have the merits to meet someone like Bhagat Kabir ji can still make progress towards mukti after taking Amrit.
  8. always go to sangat and try to do amritvela simran. also, i've heard that tiag ---> viaraag.
  9. i know that some people will have trouble believing this, but just like a person can fight jung without krodh touching the mind, a person can also act without kaam touching the mind. it is a matter of one's spiritual level.
  10. any shabad can give all kirpas, as Gurbani does not have limitations. However, Gauri M.5 Thir Ghar Baisho Har Jan Pyare shabad is particularly prescribed for help in making your works complete.
  11. you'll get used to it over time, just keep trying and slowly increase the time you spend sitting. if you need to get up and take a break, go outside the darbar and stretch a bit before you return to sit back down. at home, try sitting cross legged on one or two pillows while you do paath. when you get used to it, remove a pillow and so on. look up some stretches on yoga websites to do before and after. also, you can practice sitting cross-legged in langar hall, as its easier b/c the mind is distracted by the food.
  12. Although Dhuma has some kamai and seva, more than myself, he still is not the jathedar of DDT. He lied, said Sant ji is alive to get kursi, and then once he was given it he said sant ji is shaheed. He couldn't even live and let live with those who have a different opinion on the matter. The taksali singhs that believed in Baba Thakur Singh ji's bachan were beaten and kicked out of the taksal.
  13. you could try just moving the tongue and mouth but not using your voice. or doing it silently in your mind. if concentration is a problem try switching between these so you can rest your voice. you can also google methods used by opera singers to keep their voice in good condition and adopt some of those methods.
  14. nimrata is completely different from being a walk-over. it's kind of a difficult thing to explain, nimrata is not weakness. it is great strength. the more nimrata one has, the greater naam bani they can handle. a person needs the dheeraj (forbearance) from nimrata to be able to handle the shaktian gained from this path.
  15. I dont think rennet is ok to eat

People worry a lot about marriage and so remove their hair. Many domt get married till much later. I know attractive people who didnt get marriec till 30. So dont assume hat hair is preventing your marriage, it just may not be time yet. Also, oue partner is written in our karam, regardless of whether we have facial hair.or not
  17. It is the most important virtue according to bhai gurdass ji
  18. Googne guru nanak academy and check out bhai parminder singh ji, also look for sant mani singh ji katha. Both are in english
  19. i think it makes body more acidic. over time it is harder to do swas swas Kiran bc oveeacity seems to upset body breathing rhythm
  20. just one more thing to add, there are different philosophies about the soul. so, if a hindu speaks about vedant, he is discussing something different than the sikh version of vedant. vedant in sikhi is very different from vedant in hinduism. if vedant was not called vedant but had a different name than all these people opposing it would both stop opposing it and stop confusing people by presenting sikh version of vedant as if it were the same as that in the various hindu philosophies. anyways, look forward to kam's post as he can explain it better than me.
  21. garlic has a huge effect on vikaars. how much shakti someone gets from naam simran to counter rajoguni and tamoguni food depends on that persons spiritual level. a sadhu told me three things have a major effect on your mind, each of them having a roughly equal effect. karma, food, and sangat. we can't control karma, but we have a great deal of control over food and sangat. as our soul grows stronger, the negative effects of food and sangat decrease.
  22. the longer "taksal" version of rehras is based on a gutka sahib handwritten by shaheed bhai mani singh ji.
  23. actually, Vedant has as its base the teaching that the vedas CANNOT give mukti.
  24. since when did sant jarnail singh ji enforce ddt maryada at darbar sahib? please stop inventing things
  25. Although the rahit did not call for the sgpc to forcibly take over gurdwaras, that is still what they did. the udasis are a samprada of sikh dharm, however i can understand why some might find that hard to believe b/c of how far this group has lapsed into hinduism. it's almost as guru sahib removed his kirpa from them when udasi groups removed guru granth sahib ji from their asthans so they could maintain control against the greed of the sgpc. however, not all should be painted with the same brush. just like today many in the sgpc are corrupt, that doesn't mean that all sgpc employees are corrupt - it would be intellectually lazy and unfair for us to make that assumption. sant attar singh ji was nirmala. i believe that all those in the samprada descended from bhai daya singh ji and bhai dharm singh ji are considered nirmala. btw, i don't think that anyone is saying that grammer doesn't exist in Gurbani. What people are saying is that the system of viyaakarn, as taught by Prof. Sahib Singh ji, is a manmade invention. The Gurus never created it. That is why none of the sampradas accept it. anyways, looking forward to Kam's responses.
