  1. Dear veer ji, If you can, try tying a damalla. I find that you can do everyting wearing a damalla. It supports all parts of your head, keep your kesh tied up, and definately will NOT get in the way. Bhul Chuk Maaf!
  2. It's just not your Panj Bania that are a must, one must also do rehras and kirtan sohila also..and we should also try and spend 2 and a half hrs a day doing sewa or simran in addition to doing the compulsory banias. Bhul chuk Maaf!
  3. I think the whole thing is ridiculous! It's typical of what would happen at a panjabi wedding in West London, which is supposedly representative of Sikh's. Sad..
  4. Someone sent me these statistics and I was reading these with 'Daughter of Guru Gobind Singh Ji' and 'Sister'. They are of the opinion that I should share these statistics with the sangata...so here goes.... It is estimated there are 3,750.000 sikhs outside India, which itself has an estimated population of about 25 million Sikhs. The main countries of sikh population are: UK-750,000 USA-500,00 Canada-400,000 afgahnistan-had 250,000 but most have since left to germany,Uk canada US and India and other counntries mostly in the west. malaysia-100,000 (or just under) Thailand 45,000 Germany-50,000 kenya -30,000 Italy 28,000 tanzania 14,000 thare also many significant communities of Sikhs to be found in australia 28,000,new zealand 12,000,South American countries of argentina /Vanuezuela 20,000.There are two Gurduaras in caracas, and a third being built in another city cobota,I think. Sikhs are also known to be living in numbers in greece- 5,000,abu dhai and Kuwait (35,000),Lebanon -3000,France(7000)Sweden ,danmark,Norway, spain ,Portugal all have some Gurduaras etc ..5000---15,000 in all these countrie, where they have 2-5 gurduaras.Smaller communities are found in South africa, malawi,Zambi,Nigeria, where they have one to two gurduaras. There are two gurduaras in panama.Belize, gutemala each have two gurduaras.Japan has about 5,000 sikhs ,Korea has two gurduaras ( about three thousand Sikhs).Fiji had about 10,000 sikhs in its prime time with five gurduaras.Philipines has a significant Sikh community of about 20,000. 5. Can't believe some people can be so vindictive! Thank god the husband supported his wife!
  6. Kids are adorable Once I did keertan at this youth programme and my friends little sister, she was about 5, came up to me at the end and told me she wanted to be able to sing like me. Then she went down on one knee, took one of my hands and proposed to me! She told me she wanted to marry me so she could be like me.. ha ha ha
  7. Some keertani's do make up their own tunes but keep it in the same raag. Each raag has certain notes/keys that make up that raag. As long as the notes that are used/played are the ones that compose that raag then the shabad is still in that particular raag. Although keertan should be done in the specified raag, doing some form of keertan as long as it's from the heart is better than doing nothing..After all, there are some poeple that just do raag kirtan for money..and I personally think that is worse than doing keertan that is not in raag. Keertan Nirmolak Heera Anand Guni Gaheera! Bhul Chuk Maaf!
  8. Awesome pics. Love the shaster
  9. Personally these singh's are better off doing simran or paath, praying this bibi learn to respect her keski and be blessed with Amrit de daat. If this bibi ji is committing bujjar kuraet's then why are these singh's worrying about this bibi when there are soo many other paapi's out there. The bibi concerned is accountable for her actions and it should be left like that..If she cannot respect guru sahib's nishani, guru sahib's crown she will end up paying for it in ways that we cannot comprehend! Bhul Chuk Maaf Sangat Jeo!
  10. These are great. Apart from the weird questions concerning washing and keeping of my hair..I have had people ask: "do you do that yourself?" (meaning do I tie my dastar myself) Reply: 'no, I go down to the local Turban dressers :D (But you have to say this with a real innocent yet serious expression) And when it's panjabi people that ask the same question I say, "pugh dressers'! he he he.. The other funny ones are: 1. 'Do you have to marry someone you have never met?' 2. 'How do you get your hair in there?' 3. 'Don't your eyebrows continue to grow if you don't pluck them?' 4. 'How can you be strong if you don't eat meat' My reply to the last one is always something along the line of: 'There's one way to find out so name the time and place!' ha ha ha Sometimes explaining anything to these ignorant people is like  @ but if they are generally interested then I try and explain the little I know..
  11. I remember they were recruiting when I was at the LA convention Centre in 2002!
  12. I can't recall the sakhi but I remember someone telling me that Guru Nanak Dev ji went to this village where there were a lot of manmukhs and he wanted everyone to stay in that village. I think someone questioned Guru ji on that point and guru ji said, I want my sikhs to disperse and spread the word on sikhi whereas bad people should stay put.. The sakhi was something like that. I am sorry I cannot remember it all But if anyone knows it, it would be great if they could post it here.. Basically, gursikhs always show piyaar to everyone regardless of whether they are gursikh or not. It's usually this piyaar that inspires non-gursikhs to embrace sikhi. I personally think if you are strong in your rehit and a strong person then you will not be affected that badly by people that are not gursikh. You can either lead the crowd or follow it. I prefer to lead  (even though I am the biggest moorakh around) But I probably think that because I went to school with goray, had goray friends, and am surronded by goray at work..but they would never smoke near me or anything. People even felt bad eating meat near me! But I wouldn't call those peole my sangat even though I see them a lot, because my sangat is my nearest and dearest and most of them are gursikhs. At the end of the day you are more likely to want to spend time with people that are similar to you therefore it only makes sense that you will makes friends with people interests and they will become your sangat. Bhul Chuk Maaf! P.S. It's very very late. I should be sleeping to if this doesnt make sense than that's the lack of sleep..
  13. Dhan Guru Hargobind Sahib miri piri day malak deh shaster dharan divas deaa lakh lakh vadiyaa(n) May guru ji bless all the sangata on this forum with sikhi and shaster vidiya so we can follow in Dhan Guru Hargobind Sahib Jis footsteps and aspire to be Sant Sapahi's as ordained by Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Bhul Chuk Maaf!

  20. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Come to california in august. The Bay Area smagam is always awesome! It's good that you are focusing on the laha that you got and taking in all the good stuff..[admin-cut] Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
  21. Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! Dear Walking towards the light, If you are keeping bibek or wish to then, let me just state you can eat anything IF you make it yourself. But, dnt forget to do simran or paath whilst making the food. Make your own pizza, burrito's, pasta, or whatever dish you fancy. Plus you can control the fat content  he he he With regards to your parents cooking for you if they are not amritdhaari, if you were to eat food prepared by them, you are making an exception. I know some people that have done this only with immediate family however, those members that are considered exceptions usually keep a rehat or are about to be amritdhaari i.e sehajdhaari. Sangat jee, I just want to say, bibek may sound weird or you may not quite get your head around it..but there will come a time when everything makes sense and you will want to keep bibek. We say sikhs should be blessed with bibek in ardaas everyday so let's just continue to to guru sahib and ask that he can continue to show us the way  bharosa rakhu ji Bhul chuk maaf! Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!
