  1. "Why do Sikhs keep a traditional look by keeping Hair and Beard? Why are they not unto date with modern?" ----- This was a question asked to me by a Chinese 1 year ago and then a hindu replied "very good question". I have found the answer to this question finally, but first I want to hear what the SikhSangat.com forum has to reply if someone asks them the same question?
  2. I am a 28 year old Sikh girl. I used to drink alcohol but I quit, I used to eat meat but I quit. I feel bad eating animals now and I know in our religion it’s preferred I don’t eat meat. I have never ever treated someone unequally or have had ego problems. I do my work honestly and help the community. I have a soft heart. I just really regret some decisions I made before which makes me feel like I’ll be put in an endless cycle again. I lost my virginity before marriage and I’ve been regretting it everyday. I don’t know how I can make up for this or what I can do to better practice my religion. I’m always scared I will go to a bad place after death but I always try to be an honest person. Can someone please guide me and tell me what’s right or wrong. I couldn’t find the answer to this. I dont know if god will forgive me and I feel really bad doing these mistakes I did

  5. Sikhism now an official religion in Austria TNN | Dec 28, 2020, 07.20 PM IST AMRITSAR: Sikhs of Austria will now be able to use Singh and Kaur after their forename, mention Sikhism as their religion, and register themselves as Sikhs after the Sikh religion was officially registered by the Austrian government. While talking to TOI over the phone from Vienna on Monday, Jatinder Singh Bajwa, secretary Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji Parkash, 22nd District, Vienna, said now the Sikhs and their children would be able to use Singh and Kaur after their forenames which they earlier used to write in the ‘extra name’ column. About the process of registration of Sikhism in Austria, he informed that there were seven gurdwara’s in Austria out of which three were in Vienna with one gurdwara each in Klagenfurt, Linz, Graz and Salzburg. The gurdwara management committees of Austria then constituted a nine-member-committee of Sikh youth on November 1, 2019 who was entrusted with the task of pursing the registration process of the Sikh religion with the Austrian government. Jatinder, the only professional Sikh chef in Vienna, informed that the committee prepared a ‘constitution’ on Sikh religion and their practices incorporating the values of Sikhism, Sikh guru’s, Akal Takht’s rehat maryada (religious code of Sikh living), significance of Sikh religious symbols, the value of 5 K’s in the life of a Sikh, their distinct identity, Sikh’s turban, etc. which was submitted with the Austrian government. “On December 17 we received a letter informing about the registration of Sikhism in Austria and on December 23rd we held a thanksgiving prayer in the gurdwara” he said. Reacting to the development, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Bibi Jagir Kaur said that “this as an important achievement attained with the efforts of sangat in Austria."

  7. Does abyone wear large (thick, chunky) sarbloh karas as opposed to the normal thin ones? Seeking sangats experiences, are there people who wear them all the time and keep them on at all times? Has anyone had any issues going through airports? Do they need to be removed if a certain size? What about at work? Whilst it doesnt matter what people think and always have to explain etc. Should there be consideration for the size of the kara?
  8. ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਹਿ This isn’t a promotion but I’ve been following the Sikhi Forums online and loved them. I’ve always looked for a platform which allows sangat to connect. I came across Discord and I didn’t think my effort of creating a space for the Sikh community would go far but within 5 days it gained 300 members so I wanted to invite some of those interested . Platform is to further extend the reach of Sikhi so we can spread and raise awareness of the ancient knowledge passed down by our Gurus, warriors, saints, and scholars. This server is part of my everlasting endeavour to create a large online community for Sikhs; not just one where educated Sikhs can have intellectual discussions, but also a place which those who are interested in learning more about Sikhi can rely on. Furthermore, this server acts as the ideal online hub to learn about Puratan Granths [pre-colonial literature] and Sikh literacy as a whole. This server also offers a ‘Kirtan’ channel where one can engross themselves in heart-warming Puratan Keertan, a ‘Katha’ channel where one can attain the extensive knowledge of the most learned Gianis and Vidvaans, a channel dedicated to sharing and discussing Puratan art/symbology, and many other accommodations. All in all, the discord server is your ideal place to share, learn, and indulge in all things related to Sikhi. Thanks to SikhSangat Forum for getting me into Sikhi! 10. Sikh Cop In Aayush Sharma's Antim Avya Sharma, 18 Nov 2020 https://www.missmalini.com/2020/11/18/salman-khan-to-play-a-sikh-cop-in-aayush-sharmas-antim/amp Aayush Sharma and Salman Khan (Source: Instagram | @aaysharma) According to reports, Salman Khan is all set to play the character of Sikh cop in Mahesh Manjrekar‘s directorial, Antim: The Final Truth. The gangster drama will also see Aayush Sharma portraying a Marathi Gangster. According to the latest report in Bollywood Hungama, the filmmaker’s next is going to be larger than life film. It is the official remake of the Marathi hit, Mulshi Pattern. The publication quoted the source as saying— “The cop being Sikh is the sole reason for Salman to do Antim, as he hasn’t done a character like this before. He is beefing up, increasing his beard as he will be seen playing a tough, intense and real Sikh cop, and wear the turban too. There are larger than life elements in the script, but this cop has his own swag, and style of functioning. It’s more like how a cop would be in real life, unlike his other cops which are more commercial and heroic.” Talking about Aayush Sharma’s character, the source revealed— “It’s more like Salman’s version of a Sikh Cop and A Marathi Gangster minus the abuses and vulgar scenes of Sacred Games. He is attempting to make an intense gangster film this time around and trying to play a rather mature character that blends well with his age. However, his cop is more of a supporting character as the entire story revolves around brother in law, Aayush Sharma’s gangster

    Jathera Worship

I have a question about Jathere. My immediate and extended family are very devout into going to their Jathere and performing all sorts of traditions and rituals there. At one point Guru Granth Sahib ji was kept at "my" jathera but was removed by some Singhs for obvious reasons. From my understanding of Sikhi, worshipping ancestors, idols, and etc is a hollow act in itself and not neccessarily going to lead you down the spiritual path you may be seeking (I think we can reference the last pauris of Tav Prasad Svaye here). The realization and understanding of spirituality in the sikhi perspective comes from reading, reflecting on, and implementing Gurbani in your life in an incremental manner. However, if I tell my family that performing rituals at the jathera, let alone go to it, doesnt make sense to me and that Gurbani teaches otherwise, they get angry. They get all dukhi saying ajj kal di paneeri don't give crap about anything. I even asked them why they perform rituals like pouring atta (flour) around a tree a certain number of times. They say the elders used to do it so we have to continue. I believe it's out of fear as in "If we don't do it, this ancestor may curse us" type of thing. So my question is: Is trying to follow my current beliefs on this matter and angering my parents/relatives wrong of me to do when the next time a situation comes to go and perform rituals at the Jathera and I refuse? Or should I give in so my parents can be happy? What would be the Gurmat way?

  14. Just posting this up to make it easier for sikhs to find out about how we are meant to celebrate Navratri and Dusshera. There is actually something similar for Diwali as well where Dasvin 10th Patshah actually uses the word 'Diwali'! Hopefully I will find it before Diwali. https://www.facebook.com/652447751445011/photos/navratri-and-dushera-are-days-to-do-shastra-puja-the-nine-nights-of-naurate-star/995158367173946/ Since this post contains content objectionable to some jathe, I guess you will need to lock this. However please at least leave this post up so sikhs know how to celebrate Navratri and Dusshera, and can see the historical quotes.

    Cousin wants to cut hair

So my brother doesn’t keep long hair, I do. My brothers reason is. ‘I just wanna live life, I don’t wanna follow being a Sikh even if it’s true I don’t care’. Now my cousin keeps long hair but he’s been pushed into being a Sikh. He really doesn’t know much. Now recently, My brothers been asking him ‘when he’s gonna cut his hair’ like it’s a definite thing. It seems that my brother is getting around to my cousin now and I’m asking my cousin why would u cut it and he’s staying stuff like ‘it’s too hard to manage’ like what? He’s saying he might cut it before uni or something, How can I persuade him around? I’m trying to learn myself as much as I can about sikhi but I don’t really know much and my parents personally aren’t that supportive of me, my dad actually wants me to cut my hair he has said many times wants me to ‘sort myself out’ and ‘get a nice haircut’... some people don’t understand... But I don’t know, what can I say in a small conversation? I don’t know enough really to start giving him a lecture but I know personally that sikhi is undeniably 100% the truth it makes too much sense which is why I attempt to peruse sikhi as much as I can and I will start doing more and more in the future. But he... he doesn’t know anything... I mean like I can’t just let him step away from out purpose in life like that can I? What should I do?

  21. UK "sikhs" can be a different kind of ignorant. The level of colonialism in your way of thinking is astonishing but not a surprise being that you live in the land of sikhi's infiltraters and opressors. But I digress, you guys are nothing more than evangelical Christians with turbans on. You know nothing of the Hindustan that sikhi was founded in. Only the post British India they you are used. But I'll leave u with this. The Oneness is everything and everyone. To express this level of hate and mockery towards people is to express hate and mockery to yourself and the divine. Wake up from your slumber. You have not seen God yet. Your life leaving you very quickly. You dont have much time left. Free yourself from the prison you've built yourself. I wish i was optimistic but Im not. I already know what you will say. I just have one request. Please Slander me. Please slander my love for the guru. Please slander my experience of life. Please slander me. with love, a Fellow Gay Sikh Finally two people who have some sense and share my views, bruh i agree with both of ya'll.at the same time we have other sikhs here saying u are sikh and then not accepting hukam what kind if a sikhi is that, being LGBT is hukam you can say all u want but it is hukam people are born that way, understand it accept it it is bhana, and ik my message is gonna fall on blind ears and i gonna be "disproved" in some crazy irrational way but atleast i did my part, and both of the ppl whose posts i have quoted ( i.e. posts from @hellothere and @BlessedToBeGay),i frigging agree with u 100% i wrote my reply separtely bcos the original topic was i a plae where guests cant reply,so idk, also tell me if Akaal Purakh is in every molecule of existence are us lgbt folk not part of this universe and also you listen to bhai jagraj singh ji and even to the parts where he is with the lgbtq+ community,y'all dont listen to him there do u and for those of you who didnt know daas guest singh is LGBT,he is . BAM!
  22. I regularly face situations which are too difficult for me to solve but certain "coincidences" happen that either protect me from trouble, fulfill my desire. I really believe thats its my caretaker/creator/infinite intelligence who looked after me. I feel my words are too small to be thankful but I want to be. How can I be thankful with more than just words..

  24. I have had my own reservations about this, but a cursory look at some facebook accounts, some of them in my friend list , who pretend very well that they're pro-sikh or even sikh themselves, even don the saabat surat sikhi saroop , but inside is something different. Deep inside it seems there's malignancy. Because to mislead and take elsewhere a community who is now aware of your agenda, it becomes imperative that you now play the cards very well. And historically people who wished bad upon you would study your own community, see the weak links, your own people you yourselves distanced (Bhaape, for instance) for petty reasons are wooed by the enemy camp and taken in their ranks , perhaps with a promise of giving them supremacy over you . To assimilate and destroy you, if you won't come, I shall send trojan horses - people who look like exact sikhs and even share posts on social media related to sikhi , but deep down they have affiliations which they sometimes let know unwittingly through some of their posts which show they're not what they claim to be and will land the panth in a very bad quicksand if these "sikhi saroop" nakli sikhs become common in panth and went to take administrative posts. And then there're full families of "sikhs" who are ok with being a branch of something and not a tree of itself , as sikhi was supposed to be. this is very scary . just my observation as a well wisher of panth waheguru mehere kare EDIT -- some may say I am being a conspiracy theorist and blowing things out of proportion, or perhaps even beginning to see things just now which always existed. I would love to be proven wrong on this one
