So much to do for Sunday 6 November . . . . .

Postcards and posters

Understand postcards and posters with more details are being designed - will probably be ready towards the end of next week.

Sikh Societies at Universities

Sikh students at UK Universities are urged to pass the word to Sikh Societies and their members.

In particular Sikh students in LONDON should be urged to attend in large numbers AND why not ask your non-Sikh friends to join you.

Sikh Societies in Universities outside London should be encouraged to book/arrange minibuses to attend.

Could members of individual Sikh Socs send messages to confirm the word has been passed at their Uni and how many are likely to attend.

Gurdwaras and transport

The Sikh youth should also pass the word locally and to approach their local Gurdwara to arrange transport - coaches, minibuses etc.

We all need to pass the word and get our local Gurdwaras to arrange transport. Could members send messages to confirm the word has been passed at their local Gurdwara and what transport arrangements are in place.

Local radio

Also understand Sikh youngsters are making arrangements to get on local radio in the next couple of weeks to increase the parchar - idealy when details for transport arrangements and the programme are fully known.

First town/city to confirm a coach:

COVENTRY

Young Sikh from Coventry has confirmed that contact is being made with Warwick University Sikh Society and Coventry University Sikh Society and sangat around Coventry to attend the "Sikhs in the Square" event on SUNDAY 6 November.

If word gets around and pressure is exerted by Sikh youngsters on Coventry Gurdwaras it should be possible to arrange more coaches.

If you have a Punjabi school run by your local Gurdwara on a Sunday ask for the kids to be given a day off on Sunday 6 November to attend the "Sikhs in the Square" event. The kids might also drag along their parents.

Who will be next to declare . . . . . .

What are Sikhs planning in:

Canada - Toronto, Vancouver etc.

USA - New York, Washington etc.

to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the November 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms?

Imagine the scene . . . .

The photographs below may help.

The stage for "Sikhs in the Square" will be in the semi-circle below Nelson's Column.

The large TV Screens will be either side of the stage.

Stalls will be on the outer perimeter.

The above should all be possible.

The challenge is the Square holds 15,000 . . . . how many Sikhs and non-Sikhs will be attracted?

Taksali Jee, don't just bump... organise the transport and let us know the details!!!

Should have Leicester details sometime this weekend...!!

IT's gonna be a good one!

BUMP!

Word is getting around:

Coaches likely from Bedford, Birmingham (Smethwick), Bristol, Coventry, Derby, East Ham, Gravesend, Leicester, Nottingham, Slough, Walsall, Wolverhampton.

The word is that some Gurdwaras may be reluctant to organise coaches mainly for the Sikh youth as the "Sikhs in the Square" event will almost entirely be in English and not cater for everyone in the Sangat. However, please try and explain the bigger picture that this is not only targeting younger Sikhs, but also non-Sikhs who may out number the Sikhs present. The media will also be interested.

APPEAL TO THE SIKH YOUTH IN THE UK

Please speak to your local Gurdwara AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and urge them to support the innocent Sikhs massacred in November 1984 by organising transport for Sunday 6 November and encouraging the Sangat to join in.

Will send you the name of the person who emailed from Coventry and his mobile number.

I'm sure you'll get together and pull out all the stops to get many Sikh students to attend. Also why not try and get one or two minibuses from Coventry and Warwick Unis and pass the word to non-Sikh friends that may also wish to join you and take part in the "Sikhs in the Square" event.

Two messages have been received from Sikh activists.

One inviting speakers from several other national freedom movements - Chechen, Tibet, Kurd, etc.

The other inviting a number of organizations including the Jammu-Kashmir Liberation Front, Naga International Support Center, National Socialist Council of Nagalim (IM), Assam Watch (UK), Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Minority Rights Group International, Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization and some others.

It isa good that Sikh activists are looking to involve non-Sikhs.

Just back from Newcastle.

Newcastle Sikhs hope to organise one coach.

If a coach load of Sikhs can come down from Newcastle hopefully many more coaches can be confirmed from locations nearer London.
