Please download the SIKHS IN THE SQUARE poster and arrange for it to be displayed on the large screen via powerpoint at your local Gurdwara.

Many of the large Gurdwaras use large screens and this is a very effective way to get the message to the Sangat and the younger generation that will no doubt ask about the event.

The poster could be followed by a slide saying:

"Ask your local Gurdwara about transport arrangements"

Have just seen the hard copies of the posters and postcards for the Sikhs in the Square event.

They are great.

By late tomorrow afternoon/evening the posters and postcards should have reached Bedford, Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, Erith, Gravesend, Grayes, Hitchin, Leicester, London, Luton, Nottingham, Slough, Tividale, Walsall, Wednesfield, West Bromwich, Willenhall and Wolverhampton.

The Akhand Kirtani Jatha UK has organised a Rhensbahi Keertan at Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Cross Road, Coventry on Saturday 22 October from 7 pm onwards. A large number of posters and postcards will be made available at the Rhensbahi Keertan so they can reach other towns/cities - Bristol, Bradford, Glasgow, Huddersfield, Leamington, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Southampton etc. by Sunday.

Young Sikhs (Leicester) are likely to be the ones bringing the posters and postcards to the Rhensbahi Keertan. Hopefully, Sikhs from the above towns and cities will be targeted to take back posters and postcards.

It would also be good if Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Cross Road, Coventry could also arrange transport for the Sikhs in the Square event and the organisers of the Rhensbahi Keertan could use their influence in this regards.

Please make sure you have posters and postcards to distribute. Jatinder Singh should have arranged for them to have been picked up from Leicester and distributed to the main towns/cities in the West Midlands.

Can you specifically target Sikhs studying at University to make sure they take posters and a handful of postcards to give to other Sikh students and bring to the wider attention of all students.

For Sikh students studying in London - urge them to attend and bring their non-Sikh friends.

Also for those meeting tonight in Wolverhampton, Leicester, East London and Gravesend - we urgently need sponsorship. Could you get your local Gurdwara to sponsor advertisements - Sikh Times, Des Pardes, Panjab Times, Panjab Radio, Akash Radio, Raaj Radio. Awaze Qaum is covered.

Cost will be around 300 pounds (for each radio station or newspaper) - on radio the Gurdwara will get a mention each time and for the newspapers we can have that added. We need to know for advertisements in the newspapers by Sunday (tomorrow) night at the latest and by Tuesday for the radio stations as advertisements will start from Friday for 9 days leading up to the Sikhs in the Square event.

What will you be doing on Sunday 6 November?

YOUNG SIKHS (UK) PRESENT SIKHS IN THE SQUARE

Thousands of Sikhs are expected to gather on Sunday 6 November in London to commemorate the November 1984 ant-Sikh pogroms and share with non-Sikhs the continued suffering and lack of justice for the tens of thousands of innocent Sikh victims.

For those of you that may be in two minds on whether or not to take part in the Sikhs in the Square event in Trafalgar Square between 1:30-4:30pm please read the testimony of Gurdip Kaur taken from 'We Share Their Agony-Sikh Women Victims of November 1984'

[On November 1, Gurdip Kaur, her three sons and her husband were at home. At about noon a mob of young boys attacked her home. Here is how she described the attack]

'Three of the men ran out and were set on fire. My youngest son stayed in the house with me. But they came into the house. Those young boys, 14 and 16 year olds, began to drag my son out even though he was hiding behind me. They tore my clothes and stripped me naked in front of my son. They raped me right there, in front of my son, in my own house. They were young boys, maybe eight of them.

After they had taken my honour, they left. I took my son to sit among the women but they came and dragged him away. They took him to the street corner, hit him with lathis, sprinkled kerosene over him, and burnt him alive. I tried to save him but they struck me with knives and broke my arm. At that time I was completely naked. I had managed to get a hold of an old sheet which I had wrapped around myself. If I had even one piece of clothing on my body, I would have gone and thrown myself over my son and tried to save him. I would have done anything to save at least one young man of my family. Not one of the four is left.'

It is the heart-wrenching experience of thousands of mothers like Gurdip Kaur that place a duty on us to NEVER LET THE WORLD FORGET 1984.

Please share the experiences of Gurdip Kaur with friends, family and the Sangat. This will help those who can spare a few hours on Sunday 6 November to highlight the continued lack of justice for the November 1984 ant-Sikh pogroms to the thousands of non-Sikhs that will be in Trafalgar Square and the millions that are likely to learn through media coverage.

Where possible share the personal testimony of Gurdip Kaur with the Sangat from the stage at Gurdwaras. Some may then feel a greater desire to take part in the Sikhs in the Square event and Gurdwaras themselves may feel obliged to arrange transport.
