I came across a Singhnee, happened to be my sister in law's friend and she's just recently had a baby. And she was saying that after a Singhnee gives birth she needs 2 re-take Amrit again, is this true? ...

I've never come across this untill this Singhnee told me now I'm totally confused .

No. she may want to go pesh if they removed her kesh but there is nothing to say she will have to reatke amrit. It wouuld depend on personal circumstances. go peshh if it puts your mind at ease.

i've heard this before myself.... i'm not sure how true it is... i guess one can ask the panj pyaray to make sure... i'm not sure if u have to completely RETAKE amrit... they mite just make you do 'chula' .... but don't take my word for it... ask the beloved...

I don't think you should just get up and goto your local gurdwara to get pesh for little things of this nature.

Do you think Guru ji can't comprehend under which circumstances it was removed?

Why are we so bothered about righting a wrong like removal of kacheray when we arn't so bothered about moral purity. We lie countless times a day, do we go get pesh for that for every single lie? Now tell me is lieing worse or removing your kachera? It seems very superstitious and irrational.

I think getting pesh has just become a formality for many people.

I highly doubt in the end your going to lose points for you removing your kachera vs lieing, and etc.

Kakkar is liek an ang to us .. if we remove our kara ... is it not liek removing an ang ... same with kachera!! ... its not a little thing... guru ji gave the kakkars to us .. and told us not to remove them

I agree and to add on, what makes you think there is a kurehat in giving birth(only exception if your kes are removed). This is the same superstitious women look down upon thing. It is natural and a God given thing. why not rather go Pesh for anything close to lust? just an example... if you get wfat i mean.

Your quote is ambigious. Under what circumstances are we not allowed to remove them?

Think outside the box. We should be rational and logical as Sikhs. Thats why we're considered a modern and scientific religion. Afterall thats what really seperates us from most religions.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji showed the importance of rational thinking, when he was in Hardwar and the Hindu bathing there were "giving" water to the sun. So to show them how irrational that was, Guru Ji started "giving" water to his fields. And when the priests all laughed at that, Guru Ji replied, my fields are much closer than your sun.

Its different when you take it off just because you think a kachi is more comfortable, lol.

But wheres the logic behind going and getting pesh for removing your kachera for something you must do.

I think most people go get pesh for such things so they can tell others. Why? you may ask. Because it leaves a perception of them, with people, as being "hardcore" Sikhs.

One has to be concerned how much of the sentiment comes from the mainstream indian concept of relating menstrual cycles and childbirth to impurity. Even if this thinking had no part to play, I don’t think that is really necessary. However, I’m open to hearing otherwise.

Regardless, it seems to me that if some people are more comfortable reaffirming their commitment in this manner then all the power to them. If our discipline is to do a particular bani once a day, but someone does it twice that day so be it ---with one very very important condition.

This condition is that the most important thing is probably a deeper education and understanding of sikhi for all of us. This is crucial in keeping discipline from becoming ritual. When we don't understand enough of why we do something it becomes a ritual to feed insecurities.
