Direct London to Amritsar flights from Nov. 1

Indo-Asian News Service

Chandigarh, October 16

A British airline company, Poo UK, will start a chartered flight service from Britain to Punjab from November 1.

PK Vaid, the Poo UK representative in the Sikh holy city of Amritsar, on Thursday said: "The flight is mainly meant for Sikhs in Britain and will directly land at Rajasansi International Airport."

The airport is 12 km from Amritsar. "The service will begin from the first Saturday of next month."

He said a team from Poo UK and travel agents would land in the airport on Thursday morning.

The brochure of Poo UK with a beautiful picture of the Golden Temple invites Punjabis in Britain to "fly by your private jet — direct to the land of the Golden Temple" and also says: "No more changing planes or spending hours in transit".

Vaid said, "A Boeing 757 will fly passengers from London-Gatwick to Birmingham and straight to the Rajasansi airport in Amritsar without stopping anywhere.

He said the target of the company was Britain based non-resident Indians (NRIs) who were from Punjab and have so far had to change planes to visit Amritsar.

Being short on time they would prefer a flight that brought them home directly, he added.

He said the non-stop one-way flight from Britain to Amritsar would take seven hours and 40 minutes and the return airfare would be £459 if a passenger returned after one week.

The airfare would increase depending on the stay of the passenger, for instance it would be £479 for two weeks, £499 for three weeks and £529 for 28 nights, he added.

The fli

ght would land in Amritsar every Saturday and fly back to Britain the next day.

Vaid said, "We are clear about one thing. We will fly only passengers with British passports but the only exception will be those who have NRI spouses."

The entire crew would be Punjabi and Punjabi delicacies would be offered as in-flight cuisine, he said.

The passengers would be served beverages and would have access to an in-flight pay bar and shopping facilities, he added.

He said Poo UK would also offer a variety of accommodation and tour programmes, including excursions to New Delhi and visits to the Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

Not only this British company but other airlines are also going to operate flights from Amritsar to Britain.

Delhi-based Monarch Airways will begin its flights from Amritsar to London via Bahrain from October 21.

Amritsar, 220 km from this twin capital of Punjab and Haryana, already gets international flights operated by Uzbekistan Airways, Turkmenistan Airlines and Air-India.
