only 5 piyaarays?

i know its dumb to ask... i mean we can never know y guru ji did so..

ok...i asked someone..y guru ji laid emphasis on 5!!

(well the person i asked is an old man i use to meet whenever i return frm Dixie Gurughar in bus... he alwys gives me some advice.. i like him a lot..heehee)

anywys..he told me that he had 5 piyarays becoz by remembering them all our 5 evils will be destroyed. !!

he even said thre r 5 takhats..i dont remember wht reason he gave for this...becoz i cant understand pendu (theth) punjabi :)

moreover he said that in Japuji Sahib..u read "Panch parvaan..Panch pardhaan..pancheh sohan...."

so 5 is very important in sikhi... by remembering 5 piyare... we can control our 5 senses!!

he also said that Bhai Gurdas Ji said... that 2 sikhs become a saadh sangat and 5 sikhs become the roop of GOD!!

i again didnt get this point..again punjabi prblm...lol!!

all i wanna know..is that whtever he told to me..is it correct??

and if u can provide more knowledge in this matter...plzz elucidate me!!

thx!!

5 Sikhs together - consider that the Guru Himself is there

5 pyare - look at their names and order they were called - its v significant

Dya Singh - you have to have Dya

Dharam Singh - when you have Dya you get Dharam

Mohkam Singh - When you get Dharam then eventuall you get mohkam/stability

Himmat Singh - when you have stability you have to apply himmat

Sahib Singh - when you have these 4 characteristics then you are a Singh Sahib.

Guest [TheSim]

what i wanna know is why were they all male?

i dont think males and females are "equal" because i knw it says in gurabni, but none 5 pyare are women, no women can become one of the pyare (was a issue awhile ago) and when guru nanak married, he only did 4 walks around not 7 such as hindus, and in the hindus, the women takes the lead half way, but this did not happen and does not happen in sikhism here the man is always in the front during the walk around the Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Can someone explain?

"Panch parvaan..Panch pardhaan..pancheh sohan...."

panch in japji sahib does not mean 5 but shraist(utam)- chosen high elevated gurmukhs. Please check out japji sahib katha in gurmat section.
