I write this to salute the Sikh soldiers who deserted their regiments after the Blue Star operation on Sri Harmandir Sahib. Their bravery is remarkable. Just try to imagine the spirit in them. They gave up their careers and life long pensions for the sake of Panth. "Teri Ninda naa saharee".

One of the leaders who led the mutiny was from a village near Amritsar. My grandmother knows his family and I just remember his last name -Randhawa. This young man was extremely brave and strong.

The commander who was leading their regiment, said some derogatory things about the Sikhs and the militants inside Sri Harmandir Sahib. Randhawa could not tolerate it. He somehow got control of the storeroom where they kept weopons and led the Sikh soldiers to revolt. First he sent the Colenol who said bad things about Sikhs, to Dharam Rai. Then he put on the uniform and signs of a Colenol and started marching towards Amritsar.

Now we should remember that they were thousands of miles away from Amritsar and they knew that they would not reach Darbar Sahib but they marched towards it, nevertheless.

This small group was attacked with helocopters and thousands of soldiers and most of them were killed. Randhawa was caught alive.

When the parents of Randhawa went to see him, they were shocked to see the condition of their son. Each and every hair of his body had been plucked from his body and he had been very badly tortured. He could only say this much that he was glad he did it and he did not want to live his life after the destruction of Sri Akal Takht. He could not sustain the torture and left his body for the arms of Guru Gobind Singh jee who must have kissed his son on the forehead and embraced him.

I salute the bravery of Randhawa and his fellow soldiers who could not bear the destruction of Siri Harmandir Sahib and Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee. After all the Sikh soldiers pledge on Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee before joining army ranks and if Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee is desecrated by the government then how can they be faithful to such government?

  • 2 years later...

A little article written by me with help of newspapers of those times.

On June 10, around 600 (as 'officially' reported) Sikh Indian Army soldiers killed their Colonel and deserted their unit. A fierce battle took place in which more than 600 including 25 officers were injured by Sikh mutineers. Most of the 500 to 600 Sikh troops who deserted in northeastern India on June 10 were arrested today at three places, including one where a gun battle left 26 Sikh fighters martyred, Indian news agencies and officials reported on June 11. At the same time, more defections and attempted defections were reported in the north and in the west, near Bombay. The Press Trust of India reported 574 arrests at points between Ramgarh and New Delhi. On June 13, atleast 12 more Sikh deserters from the Indian Army were reported killed today and nearly 350 more were arrested. Military officials declared the scattered three-day revolt by Sikh troops to be at an end, but 200 members of a Sikh battalion in the northeastern state of Tripura stole four military vehicles and deserted today. They were intercepted and, according to officials, surrendered without a fight. At June 14, everything was again to normal with more than 50 martyred and hundreds of jailed.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
