Kaljug - What is the true profit?

June 27, 2006

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

In this evil fire of Kaljug we have many kinds of profit. These include profit of maya, profit of sins, profit of jobs, profit of education and many other profits. But above all these the profit of Sachee Sifat Salah (meditation of Naam) is the most important and the most preeminent. This is because without the profit of naam all other profits go to waste. There is nothing wrong with the other profits because they are classed under Grist Jeevan (house holder living) but it is wrong to collect too much of this profit and forget Naam as without Naam ones mind gets saturated by bikh (poison) and wastes his life collecting this false profit. This is proven in the below gurvaak from Gurbani.

Above Guru Sahib in this Shabad has told us that in this world there is only one (true) laha (profit), this is laha is attained through Gur-Veechar which means Gur-bibek (understanding from the Guru). According to Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh’s book (Gurmat Bibek), veechar has the same meaning as Bibek which is ‘understanding’ (Daas will talk more about bibek in later weeks). The only true understanding we can attain is Naam. This can be proven from the below panktee.

See! This is the true bibek, to do kamai (collect) of the true profit (bachan) is the true Veechar. This is the true bibek that will get rid of the filth on our dirty minds.

Over the millions and millions of life forms we are lucky enough to have received Naam through the grace of Satguru. It is only once we have sacrificed our Than, Man, and Dhan (body, mind and wealth) to Satguru that we can start to collect this true profit. It is only through taking Amrit that we can Jap Naam and reach high stages of spirituality and truly collect this profit.

I think here it is important to look at what a true Gurmukh says about this. Below daas has translated a section in the book Gurmat Bibek. This section is in fact the first section and is titled the definition of bibek.

Translation begin………………….

siqgur bcn kmwvxy scw eyhu vIcwru ]

The above shabad is in fact Gurmat Bibek. This is the true definition of bibek and through this Shabad alone the whole of bibek is defined. According to this Shabad collecting the profit of Satguru’s Bachan (Naam and Gurbani) is the true veechar (bibek, understanding). Or in secondary terms it is collecting of Gurus bani, bachan, gurvaaks, which is the true bibek. By having knowledge of any Gurvaaks, Gurbani, or Satgurus Bachans does not make one a bibeki. It is infact collecting this true profit and enshrining it in the heart and mind is the true bibek.

Translation end…………………….

From the above translation we can see that Bhai Sahib defines Bibek to us as collecting this true profit of Naam. That is why it is very important adopt a Gursikh jeevan and go according to ‘Hukam Rajai chalna,’ accepting Guru Sahibs hukams and accepting the most important hukam of all which is Naam Simran 24 hours a day. The ones who have realized the ‘asul’ (truth) of life which is Naam collect it by repeating the Gurmantar with every breath. These blessed souls know of the true essence and make sure that not even one breath is wasted without the Lords Name. They know that it is when they forget Akaal Purakh, even for a second, that there mind feels detached from Waheguru and therefore it wanders into desires which in return make our minds get filled with Beekar (poison) again.

Let us be blessed Satguru! So we may also jap your Naam 24 hours a day.

nwnk ijqu vylw ivsrY myrw suAwmI iqqu vylY mir jwie jIau myrw ]5]

From the above Shabad you can see that that Guru Nanak Speaks! That the time I forget the Lords (name) is the time when my soul dies (in the pain of separation from the true name).

This is the piyaas (thirst) Gurmukhs have for the true Naam and will not even live a second without it. These are the people who collect the true profit and are the true consumers as they have bought the priceless Naam from Satguru (the true merchant) who has sold the Naam for exchange for the Sikh’s mind, body, wealth.

Once Daas was talking to his farther about collecting worldly profit. Daas’s farther was saying a vaak from Gurbani:

audmu kryidAw jIau qUM kmwvidAw suK BuMcu ]

iDAwieidAw qUM pRBU imlu nwnk auqrI icMq ]1]

Daas’s farther was saying that doing udham (effort) is important in this sansaar (world) as one gets peace from it. Daas without a doubt can say that my farther is completely wrong by using that Gurbani vaak and using it for sansaari laha (worldly profit). In fact the Gurvaak above is talking about doing udham (effort) in Naam Japna because it is only through meditation we can achieve the happiness of life and through mediation we become ik-mik (one) with Akaal Purakh, in this way all anxieties are removed.

Daas would also like the say that it is not bad to do Kamai (collection) of worldly profit as this is what we need to run a house hold but without Naam it shall go to waste and will not be accepted when we get the divine call to pass into the next world.

We should remember we are only guests in this world and will have to one day leave. But we can only leave with two things. 1) Kakar (this is if we have adopted a Gursikh jeevan) 2) Spritual Kamai (including gareebi, nimerta, Naam, seva). Without these two things we cannot go into the Lord’s court in honor and will not be accepted in Sach Khand (realm of Truth, where Akaal purakh resides). In other words as Manmukhs we will have our faces blacked and will enter the Dharam Rai’s (the judge of truth) court in shame and guilt of our sinful life.

Daas would like to end this topic by saying that the only way we will enter the Lord’s court with glory and with the robe of royalty is by collecting this true profit of Naam. Where know one will recognize us in the next world, we will be recognized through Naam and it will show as our faces will by lit up with glory of Naam, this is called lallie. If we waste our lives collecting the false profit which will not go with us to the next world, then we will have our faces blackened in the next world and will have to go under a lot of punishment and hard ships because we have to pay for our lekha (account). This is why we should adopt a Gursikhi Jeevan and give everything we have to Satguru who in return will make your life safal (accomplished) and you shall recive such a glory which cannot be described. Please read the shabad below.

Pauree:

O Nanak, having created the souls, the Lord installed the Righteous Judge of Dharma to read and record their accounts.

There, only the Truth is judged true; the sinners are picked out and separated.

The false find no place there, and they go to hell with their faces blackened.

Those who are imbued with Your Name win, while the cheaters lose.

The Lord installed the Righteous Judge of Dharma to read and record the accounts. ||2||

This is what daas had wrote in post above. Infact what daas has said is slightly incorrect. We cannot collect the profit of sins as they are not part of Grist Jeevan.

Thanks to veer jee Gupt Soulja who pointed out this mistake.

Dhan Gursikh Dhan Guru Sahib!

Forgive daas for his mistakes.
