bsbk is right. The bani's real name is actually Sohila Sahib. This has been discussed before so check out the archives.

btw, does anyone know if this article was compiled origally by damdamitaksal.org or they copied it from some place?

Veerji, yup it's from the website. If you go to damdamitaksal.org and go to Vichaar it's there.

And for those who want the Sohila Sahib with the four Rakhiya Shabads preceding it can visit this link for a PDF :)

http://www.damdamitaksal.org/vichaar/Kirtain Sohila.pdf

The four shabads are: (They're included on the above link)

1)Sorath Mahala 5--Gur Ka Shabad Rukhvara...

2)Bilaval Mahala 5--Tati vao na lugee, parbrahm surnayee...

3)Salok-Jeh Sadhu Gobid Bhajan Keertan Nanak Neet...

4)Salok Mahala 5--Mun Meh Chitvo Chitvani udam Karoh ut Neet...

Summeet Kaur Ji I know that this article is avaiable on damdamitaksal.org, this is the only reason why I asked if they copied it from some place or wrote it themselves.

Those four Shabads aren't considered part of Sohila Sahib, even by Taksali Singhs. If you look in any Gutka Sahib printed by Taksal you will see that the first four shabads are labelled as Rakheaa (protection) de shabad. After these shabads end they start a new page with the heading: "Sohila" and then only the actual bani starts.

It's good to read those Shabads at night, but just because we are supposed to read them before going to sleep doesn't mean they are a part of Sohila Sahib. Just like the 52 hukams of Nader say we have to read the salok "Pavan Guru Pani Pitta ..." at night before going to sleep.

Waheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!

Waheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!!

Wow , great story, thanks for sharing jee..

Also, I would like to add something more that we should recite, Its in the biography of Sant Baba Harnaam Singh Jee.

In the bani of "Bawan Akhri" on page 262 of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Jee there is the following Salok

=====================================================

salok.

Shalok:

gurdayv maataa gurdayv pitaa gurdayv su-aamee parmaysuraa.

The Divine Guru is our mother, the Divine Guru is our father; the Divine

Guru is our Lord and Master, the Transcendent Lord.

gurdayv sakhaa agi-aan bhanjan gurdayv banDhip sahodaraa.

The Divine Guru is my companion, the Destroyer of ignorance; the Divine

Guru is my relative and brother.

gurdayv daataa har naam updaysai gurdayv mant niroDharaa.

The Divine Guru is the Giver, the Teacher of the Lord's Name. The Divine

Guru is the Mantra which never fails.

gurdayv saaNt sat buDh moorat gurdayv paaras paras paraa.

The Divine Guru is the image of peace, truth and wisdom. The Divine Guru is

the Philosopher's Stone - touching it, one is transformed.

gurdayv tirath amrit sarovar gur gi-aan majan apramparaa.

The Divine Guru is the sacred shrine of pilgrimage, and the pool of divine

nectar; bathing in the Guru's wisdom, one experiences the Infinite.

gurdayv kartaa sabh paap hartaa gurdayv patit pavit karaa.

The Divine Guru is the Creator, and the Destroyer of all sins; the Divine

Guru is the Purifier of sinners.

gurdayv aad jugaad jug jug gurdayv mant har jap uDhraa.

The Divine Guru ex

isted in the very beginning, throughout the ages, in each

and every age. The Divine Guru is the Mantra of the Lord's Name; chanting

it, one is saved.

gurdayv sangat parabh mayl kar kirpaa ham moorh paapee jit lag taraa.

O God, please be merciful to me, that I may be with the Divine Guru; I am a

foolish sinner, but holding onto Him, I will be carried across.

gurdayv satgur paarbarahm parmaysar gurdayv naanak har namaskaraa. ||1||

The Divine Guru is the True Guru, the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent

Lord; Nanak bows in humble reverence to the Lord, the Divine Guru. ||1||

ayhu salok aad ant parh-naa.

Read this Shalok at the beginning, and at the end. ||

=======================================================

Baba Ji would answer, "There are so many Saloks in Gurbani which come twice, but none of them ends with this line that 'this is to be read in the beginning and at the end." At last when he was not satisfied, he prayed to the great Guru about the special instruction and its meaning. The Tenth Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave his clear glimpses and uttered, "Bhai Harnam Singh! whenever a Gursikh is to start Nitnem, either in the morning or in the evening, before the begining and after the completion, this Shalok is to be read. Before the start Sri Akhand Path Sahib, or Sehaj Path, after the complete reading of Shri Guru Granth Sahib, this Salok is to be read. This line is written only for this purpose. Any person who will read this Shalok in the begining and at the end will be benefitted extra."

Listening to the divine words of the Great Guru, Baba Ji was totally satisfied and was overjoyed. From that day onward all the devotees of Baba Ji read this Salok as per the order of the Great Guru

- Taken from Chapter 69 " Significance of Shalok Gurdev Mata Gurdev Pita"
