Ravinder S Powar Dismissed from GNG Smethwick

Wednesday 15th of November 2006

Panthic Weekly News Bureau

Smethwick, Birmingham (KP) – On Sunday, 12th November 2006, Ravinder Singh Powar, the infamous Vice-President of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick, was dismissed from the current Gurdwara Sahib Management Committee. This was announced last Sunday at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara, High Street, Smethwick, after the decision was made at a meeting on Saturday 11th November 2006.

The Sangat was told at the Gurdwara Sahib by the Gurdwara Management Committee that Ravinder Singh Powar had been discharged from the Management of the Committee due to his anti-Panthic activities, the tense atmosphere that he had created at the Gurdwara for the last 6 years, and for being responsible for the incident that occurred on the night before Bandi Chhor Divas. The congregation overwhelmingly approved this resolution.

Ravinder Singh Powar became a controversial figure in recent years after he claimed to a newspaper in India that he "finished off" the Khalistan Movement in the United Kingdom. It has also been alleged that Powar was responsible for bringing a gang of intoxicated thugs to the Smethwick Gurdwara one day before Bandi Chhor Diwas to deal with a confrontation between committee members, which resulted in Police intervention.
