Khalistan within the Indian Union is a viable option. Indian govt will do its upmost to hold onto all territory it controls right now even if it means using acts of mass state terrorism. In an increasingly globalised world.... khalistan as a seperate entity like, pakistan/india, would have no backers from the outside world because the india union's ecenomic strength. The best solution therefore is to create a autonomous sikh state within indian union that is able to look after sikh aswell as indian interests as a whole.

We can dream or we can face realities. The dream is a khalistan encompassing punjab of pre-1947 borders and beyond... so big that it would have its own seaports. But reality is when the Sikh leadership who were in in the tri-party talks decided to partition india on 2 nation theory. The Sikh leadership were hood winked by nehru and gandhi into siding with India, but not without promises of a autonoumous sikh state in the north within the union. If Khalistan is formed within the Indian union then that promise can still be furfiled, the foundation stone of khalistan that was laid in 1984 will finally see its fruition. And we can have closure to this struggle for nationhood and years of militantacy.

This option is far more viable then outright seperation costing millions of lives and leaving years of hatered between the peoples.

This geeza thinks we can get Khalistan in India through begging the Indian Govt nice joker http://www.punjabnewsline.com/content/view/2242/38/

This guy like many of us here in Punjab have understood the reality of the situation here.

It is very easy to shout slogans(in the media or on net) for Khalistan and instigate people here from thousands of miles from AC rooms without actually feeling the heat of the events here.

I even doubt if many of those shouting Khalistan slogans will actually come to Punjab even.

you are right , alot of people make noise, BUT NOT ALL some people are really preparing themselves, normally the quieter ones,....... when you go to india you realise the difficulties ahead, its a whole different ball game.

The Sikh leadership were hood winked by nehru and gandhi into siding with India, but not without promises of a autonoumous sikh state in the north within the union.

One of the reasons why few people outside and within the Sikh community are even open to debate about Khalistan is because those who apparently support an independent Sikh state are either unaware of the truth about the nature of Sikh politics from the British era onwards or deliberately distort it and even fabricated a false history.

One of the biggest myths is that Sikhs were gullible and innocent bystanders that had been "hood-winked" into joining India by Nehru, Gandhi etc when the truth is that the Akali Dal itself was more anti-Pakistan than even the Congress party was and it was the Shiromani Akali Dal which was the first and most vociferous proponent of the partitioning of Punjab along religious lines, which both the Congress and Muslim League had initially opposed in addition the Punjab Unionist party which had been ruling in the provincial assembly there right up until early 1947.

The Akali Dal had occasionally talked about an independent Sikh state but ultimately they were in favour of a so-called "united India". It was only after the Pakistan movement began to gain some momentum among Punjab's Muslims that the Akali Dal went on the defensive; talking about Khalistan and later about partitioning Punjab on religious lines if the British were to concede to a demand for Pakistan - which of course did happen in the end.

Despite what Jinnah may have said to the Sikh leadership about joining Pakistan it was nothing but a pack of lies. Typical of politicians he would say one thing yet do another. Jinnah's call to direct action harmed the Sikhs of what is now Pakistan's Punjab province more than it harmed or was aimed against the Hindus there. There is no question that Sikhs would never have been accepted in Pakistan during that time and this is clear from how the entire Sikh population of all Pakistani provinces was literally ethnically cleansed and forced to flee en-mass to India. The atrocities had been documented by the SGPC and published in a book a few years later which no doubt you have seen online.

The reality is that Sikhs had no choice but to join India at the time of Britain's depature from the subcontinent. Not a single district in the British Punjab had a Sikh majority and no other community was willing to give any special consideration to Sikhs. Secondly, the Muslim League's call to direct action was deliberate and it was their intention to drive away Sikh, Hindu, Dalit and other communities out of Muslim dominated areas so that Pakistan would become a Muslim state and so that Muslims could grab the properties of the departed Sikhs, Hindus etc And thirdly, and one which some find hardest to swallow is that the Akali Dal and Sikhs in general were in favor of a "united India" but were prepared to settle for a divided Punjab province. Khalistan never became a mainstream demand in Sikh politics until the 1986 Sarbat Khalsa.

The point to this being that why Khalistan is never seriously up for debate anyway is because many of its supporters simply dont know what they're talking about and worse still even make up blatant lies aimed at falsifying history.

This is a general comment for all, not aimed personally at you.

    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!

    • Leaving aside Guru ji, the general question of taking afeem (opium) in limited quantities for war/medical wounds is simply unproblematic. When you go to the hospital, they give you morphine. What do you think morphine is? It's an opiate. Even codeine (cough syrup) is an opiate! Ever had a cough? Granted, it is against Gurmat to take opium or other drugs for the fun of it.
