My understanding on this issue is because its to do with rehit....basically if someone has taken amrit then its least likely that if you share with them you are breaking ure rehit...ie u might share with a non amritdhari who a few minutes ago had fish...and then you drink their water and you have then also had fish...transmitted via water particles.

So people are told if they wanna share they shoud share with amritdharis only...not as a superior thing but just so they do not break their rehit accidently. But in all honesty in my opinion...I don't think you should share food like that with anyone...exchanging each others flora...ewww.

At uni quite a few of my friends will be like oh lemme have a sip of ure water...I will let them but there is no way I will drink the rest of that water again...i knda then just say oh have it all...I don't really need it.

Good philosophy. Personally I try not to share my food with anyone. Sikhi has a logical aspect to it, so in not sharing food with everyone and their mother, your keeping the chances of spread of disease down. This isn't about who's better than who, this is about principles that have been passed down for more years than many of us can even imagine.

not sure what are you trying to say in the bold letters...

and are you suggesting that this is a rehat just coz it limits the spread of diseases ??

how can we determine what is jhoot when we are all jhoot, jhoot of our parents werent we formed from them didnt we drink the milk from our mothers chest? then how can you say what is jhoot and hat is not. Even water is jhoota, the fish live in it and do all their biological duties (i think you know what i mean) Honey and milk is jhoota as its polluted by the cow and beez, even wheat is jhoota as bugs eat it etc including saag etc.

First cleanse the mind and then worry about physical cleansing

Its not the truth its your opinion so don't enforce it.

As smartsingh24 said: They are sikh principles that have been handed down to us and instead of questioning everything for once we should try to follow those teachings. Follow gurmat not manmat.

you say its my opinion and i agree, but its also a reality, because there are pompous amritdharis out there and i admit sometimes even i get hankari and maan on my self for being amritdhari but then after that i repent. However there are amrithdharis who are hankaris and instead of repenting they condemn people who arent amritdhari. And FYI i have endured this first hand experience so dont you dare tell me that its not a reality

I'm saying that you can find a logical region where a spiritual reason exists. There is no ritualistic aspect to sikhi. Guru ji saw many things in the future that many people could not even dream of at the time. I am not saying this is a rehat just because it limits the spread of disease, because to try and figure out your own rehat would be to try to comprehend things too massively complex for a mind as feeble as mine. Pay attention to your elders and you will find what you can and cannot do.

Evidently you still cannot let go of your agenda. Since you cannot accept what people both wiser and smarter than you have said, let me spell it out for you. You're wrong in your definitioin of jhoota. This is not us determining what jhoota is. These are again, time honored sikh principles that have been handed down over generations, and from the looks of it, you'd like nothing better than to get rid of these time honored sikh principles.

Its not the truth its your opinion so don't enforce it.

Let it go, I have no clue why you hate amrithdharis, but stop calling yourself a singh if you want to continue to do so, and I will dare to tell you it is not reality. It's your warped and twisted version of reality.

Firstly how can i hate amritdharis when im amritdhari myself. Secondly the concept of jhoot was introduced to tackle the spread of TB, Plague and Smallpox. What threats do we face today apart from being seen as pompous arrogant B******S, thats the way society percieves us.

i admit even i dont like taking "parrai" jhoot, but i dont see anything wrong in the jhoot of my mother, my brother, my father etc because they are my blood. When we go to Gurudwara the langar is jhoota, isnt it given s bhog to bhagauti? therefore isnt it jhoots (but seen as parshaad in which i see no qualms)

im not saying go out and have the jhoot of kaale goreh muslims hindus, because even i feel uncomfortable eating someones jhoota if they arent my immediate family. However when someone says u cant have your mothers jhoot that really pisses me off. because everyone is their mothers jhoot literally.

and smartypants my oh my arent you wrapped in cotton wool. maybe you come from a background of amritdharis, but when you enter the faith from a family that is totally manmati you know when your looked down upon by arrogant singhs and singhania!

So then ignore them. Don't go around carrying a chip on your shoulder and start insulting amrithdharis, calling them pompous and other names. If society percieves us as pompous arrogant jerks, it's only because people like you say we are and then people stumble upon this site and think we are because you guys say so.

If you truly believe the concept of jhoot was introduced to tackle the spread of disease, then you limit the sources you get food from, and don't partake in sharing food with everyone. At this point, I can only say that you're taking a step in the right direction by not sharing food on your plate with anyone besides your family. No one's telling you what to do, we're just giving someone advice in a private forum. It'd be appreciated if you left your bias out of future discussions that had nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Jhoot is a matter of quantum physics. our thoughts can effect ANYTHING, as proven physicists with water. A non-amritdhari will have different thoughts and ideas, and by eating their jooth, you are sort of consuming their thoughts as well.

Anmrit--puts Guru's thoughts, in the form of bani, into water, thus making us pure through the consumption of the anmrit, in a sense.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
