The same money can be put to a good cause and their is no logic behind celebrating birthdays. For me its just another day. What exactly are we celebrating?? Celebrating that 1 year of our life has been wasted in manmukhi activities ??

The people who celebrate birthdays with defend saying there is nothing wrong with that and those who think its nothing but wasting money will vote against celebrating. There is no point arguing over such petty issues but remember always better things can be done on birthdays. Helping the needy, making donations etc.

My point is mr BANDAR ji, is it illegal or a SIN or a vice to celebrate a birthday? I personally dont celebrate mine I dont even care less at all, but I think the word 'WRONG' in this context isnt correct, because it doesnt cause any harm to celebrate.

How ever I do share your idea that it is not logical, but logical and wrong are both different words, al lI am saying is that a birthday celebration isnt wrong but its not logical.

Now that brings me to another point, Should we not celebrate any success at all in our lives e.g. graduation, weddings and anniverseries etc etc? To me sorry to be frank but saying you should not celebrate something cos its wrong is whole load of trash. If you think you have been a success, go ahead and celebrate it, one should be PROUD of their achievement.

I personally believe it is wrong because we should be only celebrating Guru Ji’s birthday.

... why do you think its only right to celebrate the Gurus birthday?

Firstly should not have 'singh' in your name if thats what you can say about your father and the one who gave you sikhi. Without Guru Ji you would not even have a human sikhi life. Only Guru Ji's birthday is worth celebrating. In one of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's commandments it has been said to celebrate all of the Guru's birthdays.

I personally believe it is wrong because we should be only celebrating Guru Ji’s birthday.

However...celebrating your birthday in a traditional Sikh way having langar and remembering to pray to God (as an example) for this good life and that your still living to see another day is a good thing!

But you should be remembering to pray to God everyday and every second for this good life. You can die anyday.

Thats new to me that one of the commandments is to celebrate a Gurus Birthday, where is the reference?

Again, celebrating a birthday is not illegal, its not a sin, its not commiting any of the 5 vices, its just plain celebrating your birthday e.g. Langar or akhand path, just to say to GOD that how thankful you are for these long years as a bear minimum, of course you should remember him all the time as you say.

So my question is...What is wrong for celebrating another humans birthday? Because I dont see anything wrong with it just that its man made concept or isnt a logical solution cos ur getting older not younger, but its not WRONG to celebrate in my opinion, and I asked my colleagues who some of them are proper SIKHS, they dont find anything wrong with it. hmmmm!

Now being full of loving devotion they celebrate the gurprubs (anniversaries of the Gurus) and their acts of rememberance of God, charity and holy ablutions, inspire others also.

Its your own choice if you want to celebrate your birthday. I only gave my opinion about it and wanted to know others.

Fine, but does it say we are not allowed to celebrate ours, or does it say its wrong to celebrate our birthdays?

I am not being rude, but just putting my opinion across, if you felt that i was being rude, i must apologise. But if you can not answer my question, it is baseless statement as to why a celebration is wrong...I agree with full faith we should celebrate our Gurus birthday, however i dont think its wrong to celebrate our birthdays, and your last phrase "Do what you like" many thanks for that because i am an individual and what I do is my private business.

So its all about a the word "WRONG", its just a poor selection of a word but am pretty sure thats not what the original poster was trying to say. Her intent was altogether different. I guess she is trying to say that there is no point celebrating birthdays.

I think as children grow up, celebrating it is not wrong. All you are doing is celebrating the fact that the child has survived for this long is growing into adulthood.

For me, I no longer care about my birthday. Moreover, all it does is remind me of death.

I do not celebrate the birthdays of the Gurus. But I try to enshrine their lives and teachings in my mind and heart.

What exactly do you mean by celebrating a success? When one gets married they can celebrate in different ways. So whats defines celebration?

AND

One should never be PROUD of their achievements. One should be content with what Guru Ji has given to em.

Well yes, but I think you have summed up that there is no point and I do share that fact as I dont celebrate mine at all, as you say there is no point and like one of the posters have said its reminding you of your death, hence we should JAP NAAM, but its not wrong tho to celebrate it, even tho its not logical, its an excuse to have a happy time thats all. However I do admit I had a little gathering on my **th bday thats cos I was being told i never have one and so on lol!

I mean success on whatever the individual has achieved and by PROUD i mean personally being PROUD not showing to others that you are PROUD and better than them, thats plain stupidity. Ones success can be seen as an obession, and obsession leads to being big headed and proud, however you should be PROUD to be able to help others who are less fortunate with your success

You cant really define celebration, you can celebrate in many ways than one, but celebration isnt wrong.
